so I missed recognizing your one year anniversary just about one week ago. Today i remembered watching you first while on vacation (holidays for you brits!) at this time one year ago. and i have eagerly anticipated and watch all 80+ videos since. Thanks you for being such a wonderful companion over the year. I look forward to and treasure your continued companionship.
Today, i released i had watched 999 videos on youtube. I wondered what video i should watch to mark my 1000th video view. I feel it fitting to mark this momentous occasion in my 'youtube life' by watching a video of one of it's greatest stars. Thank you for reassuring me that the internet is not an under 50's club. You are an inspiration to us all, Peter.
Some of the teenagers today need to be forced to go through this maybe then we wouldnt have all these chavs and hoodys running riot who have never been disciplined.
Peter, it is lovely that you are willing to share your life with young and old. I loved this clip because you can relate to those not experienced in life as some. Keep up the good work. I hope all of your subscribers appreciate having you and what you have to offer.
Hey Peter my University lecturer told us about you in his class yesterday
apparently he shows your videos to his children before they go to bed.
he said your videos help them relax with your soothing voice yet it takes them at least 2 to 5 minutes after your videos are finished before the go to sleep cause you remind them of their own grandfather who passed away a few years ago
alot of soldiers train on how to get drunk hehe.. yea i wanted to ask if you have ever killed anyone during the war, and if yes, how did you feel then?
Hey, we got the same head phones! But that's beside the point. It's nice to hear an "experienced" man talk about his life and the great stories that he has lived through. It makes me miss my grandfather all the more. I'm interested in some more of your tails and have subscribed. I never knew how much I missed an older, male rolemodel untill now. Thank you, so much for posting! :0)
After listening to your story, I had to wonder if "feeling groggy" came from the war? I know one thing I would be more than groggy after that ration I tell you! Great story, and loved ole Oscar.
What was the reasoning behind drinking the rum? I can't imagine what positive training that would be. I know a lot of soldiers do a lot of drinking and have done so through many wars, but I didn't realize they had to be trained. LOL
Your stories are amazing. I wish that my parents would tell me some of their experiences. I also hope that I can gain some experiences too! Then maybe I can share some stories with you too.
I'm confused on how they forced anyone into doing that squatting march. It sounds complicated. I suppose it was psychological, that the commanding officers controlled whether and what you ate, whether and how you slept, etc, so instinct snapped in sooner or later that you were low in the group's pecking order. Wolves pick on the lowest ranking animals and they rarely leave the pack (and then they rarely survive long on their own).
I always enjoy your visits with us. You're great company and never boring. Enjoy your visitors this week and lift a pint for me, a toast to your first anniversary on you tube. It's been a lovely year and I hope for many more to come. Cheers!
Just one thing, lots of ur video titles are telling it all #, im asking u to change the titles to something relating to the video please thanks, eg: if the vid is gonna be about cats, videos and pizza, name it cats, video n pizza, not telling it all 345739856793
It was nice when you chuckled as you remembered Oscar and how he could not get coordinated in the marching drills. It reminded me of a book written at about that time named "See Here Private Hargrove" It was humor and I think it was our WW II's best seller in the USA.
Thank you so much, Peter, for sharing your forces-stories. My hubby and I enjoy it so much to listen. Oh, and my hubby loves to drink grog though I'm sure it's not the same mixture as yours lol.
geriatric, I am sorry to in terrupt, but never was a rating issued half a pint of rum. It was a TOT and it was watered as you say. But only half an inch in the glass and that was a lot of Nelson's blood. I used to love it especiallywhen it was rough weather.
I think it may have been to make sure one guy didn't get a few other guy's ration and get drunk on it. Also, I believe grog came about not as watered down rum but rum added to water to kill any bad stuff as in the old days on long voyages the water could turn foul. I believe that's why Churchill drank a lot of whiskey, as serving in Africa the water was bad so they added the alcohol to keep from getting diseases. So, it became habit for him.
I thank you for sharing sir. I wish that I could get my grandfather to come on here. He was with the Cotton Bailers...U.S. army artillery and infantry...your generation sir and my greatest teacher. Again, thank you.
Maybe if you show him some of Peters stuff it would inspire him and make him more comfortable. That generation is quickly getting smaller & I think that ever little bit that we can preserve on video is precious!
Another lovely video Peter. Thanks so much! How wonderful for you to have such interesting and (hopefully) enjoyable activities at this time of your life. I appreciate you sharing this with us.
Talk about punishment while in boot camp: When the guard assigned to the armory accidentally locked the door key inside, I thought I was doing everyone a favor when I picked the lock, but I was inadvertently teaching everyone how to gain access to rifles and ammo. My punishment was scrubbing two flights of stairs with a toothbrush.
GeriAtric, another interesting video, as always. As a 16-year-old, I thank you very much for these videos. In your age range, and not just in your age range, you are a very good role model to all young people.
Hello Peter, you're quite a bit of a gadabout! I'm so glad you have such a network of friends -many your age don't - keeps you young, eh? It did my dad! Grog, yuck! A leisurely drink over time, fine. Downing in one, why?
I have a coordination problem, which has been confirmed by doctors, much like the man you described that couldn't march.
I often move the wrong arm with the wrong leg when walking and such.

That's why forces were men then, and today not so much. They're still tougher than your average man, but wusses compared to the Greatest Generation.

Really interesting! Wonder what use they thought the rum/grogg was? Relaxing/Health?
