So far my Time Capsule has been working great to stream all my movies to my Mac Mini. The cool thing about the time capsule is that with the USB port on the back you can plug in a big 2TB HD and it shows up in your finder window.
Well, i have used a Time Capsule since 2008 and this great device works great here in my office (till last monday when it broke for some reason, i don't know, but the good part is that the HD is working yet, so i put the HD on a external case and it works, now i'm sharing internet with my partners using my MacBook for while). Now i am thinking about this MM Server, the features look like to be perfect for small business, and i don't think the heat will be a problem because the TC was hot too.
Eh, I get what you're saying but how often do you actually hear about a Mac Mini server or otherwise failing? Probably a nice little package for a small office or a robust home network.
I use this at home, if you want a ton of hard drive space just hook a drobo up to it! Now a small home network or small business network this works great! I dont know how well it would hold up to a larger network however. I do use an airport extreme and hard wire my mac mini into it.
I bought a Mac Mini a few years ago. I don't remember why exactly.
I installed Panther Server on it. I knew nothing about Apple server at the time.
I got it "up and running". It does a splendid and solid web server job for me for the last several years.
I remember calling Apple support and telling them what I had done. It seemed to surprise them a bit. Apple's support person had never head of someone putting Apple Panther server on a Mac Mini. Works
Actually, if someone is just looking for file sharing with Macs, a third party network attached storage (NAS) device is the best bet. Check out the product offering from Synology. They can server as a Time Machine, shared drive, iTunes server and offer various levels of RAID depending on the model you choose. They are very reasonably priced, very easy to install and come with gigabyte network interface.
do the time capsule's hd is that bad? i've been thinking about getting one instead the airport extreme and an aditional hd for space on my desk reasons...
