  • Brought back heavy memories! Thanks for the upload!

  • @DSScorpion13 Glad to hear!

  • I REMEMBER THIS GAME! MY DAD AND I USED TO PLAY THIS WHEN I WAS 2! IM DOWNLOADING IT ON MY PSP

  • Ah i remember when i sraped, saved, traded an sold games to get my Turbo i was maybe 13 or so unfortuanetly this game bundled in i played it because it was the only game i had at the time i didnt care for it much i think this one of the downfall of the Turbo the lousy pack in game

  • @bacardipr05 I think Keith Courage offered a little more bang for your buck gameplay wise than Genesis' pack-in at the time, Altered Beast. Love 'em both though.

  • @Keranu I had got my Turbo first. Once i got over the crisper colors an better music than my NES. I didnt care for this game. When i bought my first Genesis which i purchased off one of them back alley deals when i was 14 it had come with Sonic. Its funny i just looked up the review on IGN an the reviewer said the same thing...lol..

  • I remember really enjoying playing 'Keith Courage'!

It was the first Turbo-Grafx game I played.

  • why can not the video game makers of today remake the past video games, would really be a true hit, maybe even a movie, every video game, well almost every video game should make also a movie, like this here, needs a movie,so awsome!!

  • I never played it, or had a Turbo Grafx. I only had NES , Sega Master System, and Sega Genesis. But this was a great video. I love all the classics. Guess I'll be searching for a TurboGrafx on Ebay now :)

  • Honored to convert you to Turbo-ism! Please fully research all the different types of Turbo Grafx 16 / PC Engine formats though before buying any so you know what kind of games you want to play ahead of time. Starting off with just a normal TG16 isn't a bad idea though and can be inexpensive.

  • @hootyhaha u can just buy a nintendo wii and doenload turbo grafx games to it and other classics from other consoles

  • i hated this game but the sound and music is epitome of turbografx in my memory.

  • This game was terrible. Such a bad pack-in game. I could never stand the game enough to get past the first stage.

  • Man, better then altered beast.

  • they need to put this on the wii marketplace

  • OMG dude this is the game I was lookin for. thanks for postin up this vid. I remember the song where you turn into a mecha suit. I wonder how much is this game on ebay or if they will release it on VC for wii cause I would def buy it.

  • Thanks for the comment, glad the video helped.

Keith Courage is one of the cheapest Turbo games around. You can buy it loose for like a buck (or maybe even less) and complete for around five bucks.

  • This is so nostalgic!!! I've been looking for this game for so long.

  • I remember playing this game when I was really young, like 5-6 years-old. That, and the Ys game. Good times, good times.

  • Ys is an amazing game.

  • I dont remember. it was the 1 with the skull in the middle of the game.

  • Definitely Devil's Crush then.

  • OMG!!! i remember that game!!! I have the system in my garage, i don't kno if i have that game though. I have the pinball game for that system.

  • U must have devil crush...I used to love that game

  • There are three video pinball games on the Turbo: Alien's Crush, Devil's Crush, and Time Cruise. All of which are awesome games!

  • Yaaa that is a cool game!!!!! i still have it

  • Don't ever let go of it! ;)

  • I still have my turbo grafx and my genesis funny thing they still work but Ive sent my xbox 360 in twice already, The games back then may not have had the best graphics but the were sure as hell more fun :) Military Madness was my fav for turbo and phantasy star 2 was my fav for genesis, the legends live on.......

  • Yeah it's amazing how cheaply built electronics are these days; they really knew what they were doing back in the 70's and 80's. It's going to be hard for a new generation of video gaming to be as good as the 16-bit days.

  • this game had some of the best sound effects

  • Damn straight!

  • Dude....I loved the transformatoin sound effect at 0:20. If I remember correctly, you could keep going back and forth. I would do it just to hear the sound.

  • Haha the rainbow rules. I'm pretty sure you're right that you can keep going through it. Thanks for commenting.

  • Haha....I actually meant the Robot transformation sound....but I guess the Rainbow is cool. I mean, it's alright....stop looking at me like that!

  • But the sound matches the rainbow so well! Totally non-queer!

  • It was the music that made a lot of the Turbo Grafx games even better than they already were.

  • Totally agreed, my friend. Turbo games have always had the best music out there. Even the crappiest games tended to have good music.

  • Great intro game. The music, sound, graphics...off the chain!

  • Totally!

  • WOOOW!!! so much time without seen that!!! its a pitty that I don't have ma TG16 any longer, lost it looong time ago.

  • Gotta get another TG16, my friend! :)

  • I STILL HAVE MINE AND ALOT OF GAMES I LOVE KEITH COURAGE! WATCHING THIS WAS GIVING ME FLASHBACKS lol

  • Thanks for the great comment :) ! I love getting nostalgic flashbacks!

  • I dont know I think graphically....Keith Courage looks better than most Genesis games....

  • Those are some pure Turbo classics. They are some of the most commonly owned games among Turbo collectors and among the most praised for HuCard games.

  • I agree that Altered Beast did a better job showing off hardware capabilities, but Keith Courage did a decent job in it's own right. I think Blazing Lazers would've been a pretty killer pack-in.

  • Cadash is one of my favorite Turbo Chip games, you'll love it if you're into platform RPGs.

  • You may not believe it, but a lot of people were actually impressed by Keith Courage back when it first came out because of it's amount of vibrant colors. I agree that Altered Beast was a more impressive "tech demo", but I think KC was a good pack-in to show off back in 1989.

  • The Turbo actually had about the same processor speed as the Genesis (Both in the 7mhz range, about 2x higher than SNES. Some argue it's even faster because it uses less CPU cycles.); the term "bits" is pretty meaningless for console specs. It was also able to display more colors than both Genesis and SNES (but SNES had a larger color palette). You could even say the Turbo had a much higher resolution in theory, but most games were in the typical 256-336x224 resolution like the other systems.

  • hey Keranu I finally got over the fear of dying on the game someone posted the game on youtube and actually died just before the you to the underworld in world 1 I looped it over and over and didn't get scared of dying

  • Glad to hear that you've overcomed the fear!

  • then again it weird I have this but when I was trying to get to sleep last night and I heard the music of you dying going throught my head haunting me strange lol

  • Damn this was the FIRST game i played on my turbo grafix,it came with it...I wanted a Nintendo, but i got a TG16 and never looked back

  • Turbo forever 8) .

  • Hahaha :D .

  • wow i remember beating this game!

anyone have clips of jj and jeff? or bonx?

  • J.J. and Jeff is one of my favorie games of all time, I'll definitely need to review that game and make a video for it. You can probably easily find Bonk videos on YouTube.

  • won't anyone post the game onto youtube I know the game is old but won't anybody post it I like to see it again

  • Good news. I got another hard drive and I'll try to make a play through of this game soon!

  • good man just for once in the intro die just to make sure I'm not a scaredy cat of the game anymore ok

  • Haha, will do. I'm not sure when I'll have it ready, so it might take awhile depending if I'm not lazy :P .

  • I'm subscribe u so I'll know

  • Thanks!

  • I thought u were gonna make Keith Courage in Alpha Zones

  • Haha, I knw you're going to kill me for not doing it yet! Don't think I have forgot about you though, I'll get around to it if I can just manage to stop being a lazy ass!

  • lol then again I'm one also but not to video gaming that just when I wanna be lazy and have nothing to do lmao

  • I have this game on the turbo. It's not half bad. The music really get's on my nerves though. plus, those friggin' cats, that fall from the sky piss me off too.

  • Yeah there are only like five songs while actually playing, really repetitive too!

  • And this showed you that the Turbo Grafx16 was "NOT" really 16bit!!

  • LOL yeah because since the Turbo Grafx was ONLY 8-bits, it means it has to be worse than 16-bit even though it's way faster than SNES! :D

  • It was a horrible game then, and it's still horrible now. Don't miss it in the least. Very forgettable.

  • Screw you, this game rulez.

  • I remember this game back when I was 3 and I loved it

even though alot of people I guess don't like it I hope it comes out for VC

  • I like the part when you attack the gun guy at 27 seconds and then those skull atack you from behind and then you kill the gun guy and get a extra heart good moment there

  • Yeah that was awesome. Those skeletons suck because they won't stop repeating.

  • oh yeah I'll remember that when I play it again I waiting for it to appear in the wii game shop so I can buy it plus I need to get more wii points too but that's not a problem I hope to get some for x-mas lol

  • I'm surprised this hasn't came out on the VC yet! I thought for sure it would be one of the first games available. Perhaps they thought they should hold off since it's commonly known to be a bad game, but then again they already released Drop Off for the VC which is far worse.

  • good point I don't really call it a bad game but when I play it when I was a kid it scared me real bad I would run away if I afraid you will fall into the red spikes

  • It's really not a bad game at all in my opinion, but critics commonly like to say it's one. I think most people would agree though that KC is way better than Drop Off.

  • and I got an idea just to make sure I'm not scared of the game again make another one with keith falling into the spikes or a few times of him dying from falling in the spike some in the overworld some in the underworld

  • I love this game! ADV Films should get the rights to "Spirit Hero Wataru" and dub it into english.

  • If that ever happened, I hope they change the name to Keith Courage :D .

  • Doubt it. They'd probably stick with the original title.

  • i jsut put my phone to the speaker... that now IS my message thingy.

  • You recorded all of the sound from the video onto your phone? :D

  • well first i did the song (paused at about 15sec) from this vid, but tis too low quality from youtubes filters and streaming. so i found the origional MP3 (the song is Telephone message - The Brown Derbies) and used a 320kbps MP3 to do it from.

  • oh, wait im an idiot. i clicked a link after the vid to the video. d'oh. i wish youtube would fix that...

  • Ohh, so you didn't record a song from Keith Courage then?

  • Hey, what is that game where you are a magician that flies?

I played it 20 years ago.

  • Is it a Turbo game? The two games that come to my mind are Magical Chase and Cotton, which aren't magicians but witches.

  • hmmm... Well I thought it was Turbo but it might of been CD-i.

  • If you find out which game it was, post it here. ;)

  • dude can't you post the entire game play? please no one has it posted just parts of it like you

  • I'll have to look into it later (maybe when I get another hard drive). I haven't played through the entire game in awhile, but it doesn't take too long to figure out how to beat from what I remember.

  • I used to play it when i was a kid and the only thing that scared me was when i died that was it

  • That Frankenstein looking boss with the chain is pretty scary!

  • what world was that boss in? it's just it been a while since I played the game like back to when I was a kid I barely even remember the game now

  • I think world/level 3.

  • oh ok thanx

  • anyway if I play it again I'll just die off the bat to see if I'm over being scared of it lol I'm sure I will be it was a long time since i played it

  • You know what was always creepy death for me? Any video game that you can drown underwater in, specifically Tomb Raider since it's a human being, but Sonic is pretty horrifying as well.

  • what drowning I ended up drowning in the Sonic games but I didn't care well then again I would find it mad because I have a frustration problem when it comes to video games but I didn't have it when I was playing the Turbo grafx game it came later when i started getting Sega genesis

  • drat I wish the game was in the wii game shop on the nintendo wii it has the old turbo grafx game but keith courage isn't in it

  • The Frankenstein Chain Grabber actually was the boss in the Reverse Zone, or Stage 2, and later appears in the duo boss fight with The Magician in Glacier Zone/Stage 5. The enemy later becomes a basic one in the later stages 6 and 7 of the Magic Zone and Robo Zone. The Fire Zone (Stage 3) had the single Magician as the boss.

  • I forgot all about the boss becomming a regular enemy later on!

  • Yes, and so do The Magician and Detering Robots (as the two bosses of Rock Zone/Stage 1). These are the only bosses that become regular enemies in the later levels. Their purpose is to provide a greater challenge for the battle areas to get to the boss, but with longer and more powerful swords purchased, they no longer pose the threat they had in the boss fights against them before.

  • @OceanBlueKirby you forgot the guy that looks like a frankenstine head with the retractible spiked skull... he's the Reverse World (level 2) boss, and he becomes a frequent enemy in later levels, usually pared up with the Magician.

  • I've mentioned what I call the "Frankenstein Chain Grabber" enemy in a previous comment, but I do appreciate you pointing that out, anyway. Such comment was a response to Keranu's unsurity of where the boss-becoming-a-regular-enemy had come from, which should be found by following the "View all [number] comments" link.

  • @OceanBlueKirby Ahh... sorry i didn't catch that, man.

That's one of the reasons why i like this game so much. The boss enemies come back (sometimes double teamed) to rain on your parade after utterly step on every other henchman that dares look at you the wrong way.

... you know what? I'm gonna see how well i can do without upgrading my sword... that should pose a hell of a challenge. :3

  • That's all right. Good luck, as that will be a great challange. I've managed to get to Zone 5 (Glacier Zone) without purchasing any of the more powerful swords the first time I've played the game since I wasn't aware of how to get into the stores, but Keith ended up getting killed constantly because the enemies were difficult to defeat and had impacted him frequently since I felt there were so many at once.

  • @OceanBlueKirby Just tried the challange... i reached the Zone 6 boss, and got completely raped by him and his flying heads... :O

  • Oh, sorry to hear about that (I recall the Magic Zone's boss being very tough, too). Good job for making it all the way to Zone 6, nonetheless.

  • @OceanBlueKirby Thanks. I'll probably try again sometime, but right now, i have a couple of other games i wish to play and defeat.

    Anyway, thanks for the praise, and i'll talk to you later. :}

  • Okay. You're welcome.

  • I remember playing this on my brother's TG-16, it was the only game he had for it. I thought it was alright, but not really pack in worthy, I thought Super Star Soldier or Bonk would have been a much better pack in.

  • Super Star Solider and Bonk weren't around when the TG16 first launched. I think as a pack-in, Keith Courage works pretty well as I can't see how it would've sold seperately. Blazing Lazers was definitely a much better game and could've made a good pack-in too, but maybe it's seperate sales were more valueable. I know nothing how business works :P .

  • you know what? I think this game deserves another try, I never really got to play it much because I was so small, I'll at least grab it for my Virtual Console.

  • I really like the game myself. Aside from the crappy controls, it's a cool game!

  • For another correction, Keranu, Blazing Lazers was the included game for the PAL TurboGrafx, though. "A free Bonk" later became available for the regular console and the first two Bonk games were included in the Gate of Thunder CD that came with the TurboDuo.

  • I was referring strictly to the original American TG16 release. I think if Bonk was out when the TG16 was first released, it might've been a pack-in.

  • Well, I was informing you on this in case you weren't aware or forgotten about this information giving out in the "The Light Gray 'TurboGrafx System' topic that I've made on the PCEngineFX boards. Definitely, since it seemed that NEC wanted to follow the legacy that the NES had by having a platformer as the pack-in game, thus the reason I expect Keith Courage in Alpha Zones was chosen to be the one.

  • I will TOTALLY check that out!

  • I beat this game at the store. McDuff's had a TGX w/KC on a big screen TV and I played it every time we went. My dad's friend worked there so we got good deals on stuff, and I saved for weeks to buy my TGX. We went so often I got good at it (they never changed the game). We stayed so long when my dad was buying a washer that I beat it, with an audience of one little pipsqueak witness of maybe 6 years old.

  • That is an outstanding story, thanks so much for sharing!

  • Man I remember when I finally Beat this game, almost a year after I bought it!!! WHat great memories!

  • Thanks for the comment, I can never get enough of nostalgic memories of stuff like this :) .

  • haha right on that game sucked!

  • Maybe it was just too hard for you which is why your hands are so sore!

  • Keranu, have you played the NES Keith Courage/ Wataru RPG? It was only released in Japan. I was able to find a Japanese guidebook for it as well, but haven't started it yet. I believe the title of the RPG is Maashin Eiyuuden Wataru Gaiden.

  • Yep, I've played a little bit of that game on an emulator once. It looks really cool! I'd like to play through it some day, but I have no idea when or if that will happen. Nice find on the guidebook!

  • LOL if you're a Keith Courage fan you've gotta make it happen!

  • There is also a playstation game that I haven't gotten a hold of yet. There is one for sale on ebay now but I'm searching for one complete with the spine card... the ebay# for it is 140048074226

  • Now that's a game I wasn't aware of! I'll have to look up more info for the Playstation game later, it's just nice to know that the Wataru games won't stop! :D

  • I love the title screen theme song. Heck, Keith Courage in Alpha Zones looks pretty great. I want to play this game when I get my Wii. I think it makes a nice packaging choice for the TurboGrafx-16, but Blazing Lazers would've been good, too. I hope for this to be one of my first TurboGrafx-16 experiences, too, if not the first.

  • I love poor old Keith Courage! If you can stomach the rough controls, it's a really cool game! Making this your first TG16 to play would be a neat idea since it was the first TG16 game released out here, even though there are much better Turbo games out there.

  • I'm sure I'll get used to the controls once I get to play it for a while. Yea, I think either this game or Blazing Lazers would make a good choice to start off the TurboGrafx-16 exploration. Then again, Bomberman '93 would be the good way to go since I love him so much. By the way, Keith Courage looks a bit like you, or at least he reminds me of you.

  • Blazing Lazers is another great game to introduce yourself to the system. That's one game that I appreciate more each time I play it due to it's brilliant game design. Bonk, of course, is another good way of being introduced (that was the first TG16 game I played actually).

I could seem myself resembling Keith a little bit. Would be fun to make a small Keith Courage movie :D .

  • Yea, those are the games that I'll be sure to play first once I get the access to, since I want them more than the others. Complete with a laser sword and the Alpha Suit! Wonder who's going to be the Gun Head?

  • I'm hoping Black_Tiger will play the Gun Head :) .

  • WHAAAAT? How can you get him to play as a Gun Head? He lives all the way up in Canada and you live in Illinois! It'd be impossible to initiate the movie without one of you having to visit the other...Perhaps, that's what you're planning.

  • Don't worry, we showed the script to Universal and they are giving us big production money.

  • Ha, ha. You know, I also thought it would be possible to do a voice-acting movie instead of a live-action one. That way, if the movie you're making fails for some reason, you can still get Black Tiger/SuperPCEngineGrafx to be in the movie and not have to be that close (sending voice recordings via email).

  • We'll see :) .

  • We'll see. Can't wait for this one ;).

  • Looking back at this now, it's nice to see that my opinions still retain quite strongly. I'm glad that I was able to play Keith Courage in Alpha Zones as my first TurboGrafx-16 experience in the time. I hadn't thought that the Alpha Suit was really the Nova Suit since I think that's what I first heard it as unofficially. The Laser Sword was only one of the various weapons that can be purchased; The others are Brave, Thunder, Jewel, and Alpha.

  • Glad to hear that Keith Courage matched your anticipations :) . I think you'll be a lot more impressed with other games you have been looking forward to play too!

  • I hoping that they will all be impressive to some degree. I am anticipating to obtain a few more.

  • I think Blazing Lazers will really rock your socks. That's one game that impresses me more each time I play it. I didn't think much of it at first, but even after I learned to really appreciate it, I could still find more reasons to appreciate it.

  • Really? I do much enjoy listening to the soundtrack for the game DigiHatesMakingNames had put up, and the gameplay video he has for it, also. I can definitely tell it is going to be a title I'll highly enjoy for the TurboGrafx-16 I've recieved.

  • my friend first got this in 1989. i think keith courage was a VERY good game. why was it mocked? it wasn't a mario of course but it wasn't meant to be. it was kind of an RPG arcade action title to me. i enjoyed it but couldn't beat it

  • Thanks for the comment, I love to hear people's stories about this game from back in the day. It really is a unique and fun game that deserves more credit. If you ever play the game, make sure you get an extra heart in each alpha zone by fighting monsters until one pops up and to familarize yourself with the dungeons. When you got that down, it's not too hard to beat.

  • LOL i loved this game, never DID manage to beat the last boss though...came close a few times though.

  • Dude there is an ULTIMATE glitch for beating the last boss and I figured it out the first or second time I fought him! I can't remember how exactly, but if you jump down the pit into the boss chamber so you're right next to the boss I think, the boss will be stuck in place and won't be able to hit you.

  • I thought that had to be done during the battle against the B.A.D's robot final boss, assuming that you're correct. The tricky thing about that might be for him to fall towards the right since I don't really remember a platform lefward toward the boss pit, and turning in midair can cause him to fall neutrally. Another one that happened twice with me that caused the boss's upper body to be misplaced with his feet (but could still damage you) seemingly from jumping too close when setting on them.

  • I've manage to beat the game by using the glich today. It was pretty interesting to see him charge up with his beams whilst standing still. I hadn't really remembered the platform leftward from the boss pit before because I have not really seen it there too clearly before.

  • This came with my TG-16 when I got it. (Xmas of 90 I believe) I never really thought it was THAT bad. Granted, it wasn't the game I'd choose for the official tg-16 pack in game, but hey...what can you do? I did beg/bribe my parents to get me the CD add-on two years later. By then, Keith was a distant memory. BTW: Didn't they make a sequel to this on the PC Engine? Japanese only, I believe.

  • Thanks for your input, I love hearing stories like this in my comments :) . I think as a pack-in, Keith did a pretty good job since it might not've sold well seperately.. China Warrior could've been a good pack-in as well since it was the system's hardware seller.

There was never an "official" sequel to Keith Courage, but there was "Granzort" for the Super Grafx that was based off the same anime (Wataru something) and some people consider this as the spiritual successor to Keith.

  • looks like the gaest game on earth.

  • Well what's not happy about this game?

  • hahaha I think Gun man is awesome..

    A gun..with shades..who walks and shooots!

can anything else be more amazing!? I wish I was a gun man..:(

  • I know! He is one of my all time favorite villians! A gun for a head... just so awesome!

  • I bet none of you know that this is based on the anime, Majin Eiyuden Wataru. There is also an RPG based on it on Famicom (Japanese NES) which was also made by Hudson Soft.

  • Lots of TG16/PCE fans are aware of Keith Courage being based off an anime, but not so much the Famicom RPG (I played a little of it, seemed pretty neat!). A more interesting fact is how Blazing Lazers (Gunhed in Japan) is actually based off a movie called Gunhed.

  • I dont "use to" i still do....

    36 and still collecting pcengine.

myspace profile "peesticks" check the photos

  • I used to love this game, hopefully it will be out on the Wii's virtual console soon, along with Legendary Axe, Neutopia, and Street Fighter 2.

  • This shit was dope then and it's dope now... well time to pull it out of the attic with all my other pointless shit...

  • Right on!

  • i still have this shit hahaha

  • haha i remember this game, pity that it didn't do so well overall in the overseas market, thou in asia (mainly japan) the reception was great, and there was an anime

  • nice

  • aaah the childhood memories!

  • I spent so long searching for this game...wondering what the title was since I had only played it as a kid.

  • ur right about that it did very well in japan i think they made a cd add on and much more it in japan

  • The Turbo CD add-on made it out here as well, but just made sales even worse out here, mostly because it was $500 the first year it was out!

  • this game sucked bonk was so much better but none compared to mario or sonic thats y turbo grafix failed so fast but i luved it other than that

  • Well while Turbo Grafx 16 was failing in USA, it was rocketing success in Japan, which was the opposite case for the Genesis.
