  • HA HA HA HA HA so many comments of parents renting this or showing their kids this movie thinking its a kids movie... lol Haven't any of you parents WATCHED the movie first to make sure it is appropriate for your kids? Not saying I watch EVERY one but i do watch most to make sure... good thing of i would have made the dumbass mistake of giving my daughter nightmares for life... lol maybe its a wise to actually MONITER what your CHILD watches! lol Idiots

  • @hot21mom I didnt know it wasnt a kids film until i watched the first 5 minutes there was 2 alarming things said 1) " the fox came others like the dog cat hawk weasel to each of them thrif gave a feirce desire to hunt and kill the children of blah blah blah" 2) whenever they catch you... they will kill you...

  • I loved this movie and watched it when ever i was able to. The first time i saw it, i was 8 years old and i never got any nightmares. Children have to know, that there is something like "dead". Well, nobody i know (who saw this movie) went crazy or something...

  • the novel 1000x better ....much of the rich narrative is lost in the movie, and the visuals are not adequate compensation... they need to make a definitive HD remake of this classic story

  • My dad rented this for me one Easter when I was a kid. Easter.

  • love this film ^^

  • I'm 15 and have loved this movie since i was 10...

  • I think more "kids" movies should be like this today, You learn a greater lesson and its more realistic

  • I saw this movie when I was 10 and with my siblings who were about 6 to 9 at the time. Sure, we were shocked by the violence, but we still enjoyed the movie and still loved it. We were smart enough to know who the bad and good rabbits were and also knew that it was just a movie. I guess it's all relative, but it really depends on the kid individually in my opinion

  • "The road do do!" I believe that's what they call it.

And me and my sister would quote that scene whenever we wait to cross the street.

  • @MyWebCamCollection I'm actually in the process of reading the original book "Watership Down", and it's actually "hrududu", or something like that. It's based off the motor-like noises the rabbits hear from the speeding cars.

  • @CatMaster90001 ahh! Good to know! Thank you, CatMaster90001 ^_^

  • @MyWebCamCollection You're quite welcome, MyWebCamCollection! :D Always glad to help.

  • i just loved the movie. never watched it when iwas kid and the seagull is so good

  • WARNING: Made the mistake of renting this the other day. Do not EVER let your kids see this movie, or they will have nightmares about rabbits murdering them for the rest of their childhood! Don't know who this film was geared toward, but HOLY CRAP! Cartoon rabbits tearing each other apart (full and graphic gore) is not something I would EVER let any child see who I'd want to turn out as a healthy adult.

If I was a kid, I would be scarred for life!

And yes, the bird did say 'piss off'.

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 lol well, when I wer a lad (1980's) this film was standard fodder for kids, we all seen it and no one forgot it. IMO a bit of reality is good for kids, not every ones family dog or cat dies and its important kids do not think they immortal lol. Check out my other upload THREADS it done the same to adults.

  • @eurocon I never saw this film as a kid. I saw some things that contained a certain amount of blood and violence (such as 'Robotech', Voltron' and the 'Hobbit')

This is not about someone's family pet dying, its more like watching the family pets tearing each other limb from limb. Grab your 5 year old child, force them to sit and watch this movie. Then offer to buy them a pet rabbit. Go on, see what happens. (you will never have your bed to yourself again).

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 This film went out to an entire nation of 5 year olds, never mind just one!

We all seen it as kids, so as much as I can see where your coming from, not only do I disagree but the evidence would suggest kids where not harmed watching this film in any way at all, other than to make them think about the harsh reality of nature. And nature is tough so yeh I get your point just do not believe its effect was or ever will be that bad.

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 i watched this as a kid. when i was tiny. it was my favourite film and i didnt have any nightmares. its amazing.

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 saw this movie as a kid, and belive me it did not sacrre me ... so did my brother and sister who are three years older, and well I think we grew up fine , thank you very much ....

  • @BlondBlossome200 Uh,huh. Do you own pet rabbits?

Guarantee after watching cartoon bunnies tearing at each other, bleeding, foaming at the mouth, and ripping each others throats out, your kids will not want to go anywhere near your rabbits. If people here want to expose your little kids to that, nothing I can do. I just posted the warning.

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 yes we had rabbits when we were younger, and even after watching this movie we were fine with rabbits....

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 I watched it as a kid and it's one of my favourites. I had pet rabbits too. Children need to know that nature isn't all cute and fluffy, this film could be partially responsible for the fact that I'm now doing a zoology degree.

  • @eateroftheflame Yeah, I get that. This is why you let them watch Animal Planet, or National Geographic (or similar), so they can learn about nature in its true form; not animate a cartoon which draws them in, then shows them images and content that young kids are WAY better off not seeing. I really wonder what was going through the minds of the animators when they were drawing the animals shredding each other.

What they see usually determines how they grow up. :-(

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 there is nothing traumatizing about this movie. why is everyone making a big deal out of it. when i was a kid i saw this movie in grade school and i remember it being violent but it only gets violent at the very end and it's not anything i would'nt let my kids watch. looney tunes are more violent than this. come on people.

  • @boxhound72 Looney Tunes don't shed blood, foam at the mouth, or rip each others throats out. Granted, kids should avoid doing the things they see in Looney Tunes as well, but the fact it is portrayed so realistically in Watership Down is liable to make younger children have nightmares. Especially if they understand what is happening.

And the only one who seems to be making a big deal here is me.

  • @knujemgniliampots You obviously need to read my comments below, because it is not just you.

  • @boxhound72 Have already posted replies repeatedly. Please re-read my comments to understand what my issues are with the film.

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1 I saw this when I was 7....it was a bit freaky

  • @CAUGHTUPALIVE1

I loved this movie as a kid. It's too bad that the present generation is being raised to be a bunch of effete degenerates who can't tolerate anything that is even slightly jarring. You can't appreciate what is so wonderful in life, and in this movie, without knowing darkness as well. The book is one of the best of the 20th century.

  • @tagginos There is a difference between knowing darkness, and entertaining it. One thing to know that nature is violent; but did they really have to graphically animate it, and then market it to young children? I already addressed this already in earlier responses.

  • Thank you very much for sharing x

  • Ive never seen this but Im glad I clicked on it!

  • in the cartton series of this its not elarara its elara :L

  • @CodyCharz1D the cartoon came after and its spelled differently in the book too lol, its a good movie though, missing a few details but all in all fairly good :) huzzah for decent movies based on books!

  • little scary eh

  • Leonardo DiCaprio sent me here!

  • plague dogs is also great

  • OH MY DOG! Thank you thank you thank you!! I remember this movie!!!

  • Omg, Keehar. U dunno meaning of "secret agent"?! Keehar so loud!!! "> .<

  • such a good movie

    so many old memories now

  • i used to go to watership down when i was a kid. its a nice as place

  • Poor Blackavar...why did he have to die?? He didn't die in the book! =(

  • @OreadNYC he doesn't die

  • @gingenroses89 -- Are you certain that you knew who I meant? Blackavar is the dark-furred buck who escapes from Efrafa with Bigwig...the one who attacks Woundwort and gets his throat torn out. Do you really think he survived that?!?

  • @OreadNYC the other rabbits dont fair to well against the dog but at least you dont see Woundwort get killed so it was open for a sequel but it has been 34 years since the dog lunged so im assuming that both the dog and woundwort died a long time ago, thus ruining a chance of another encounter.do i get a Watership Thumbs Down for that?

  • I remember watching this as a child. It's not really a movie for small children but now that I'm older I understand it. I remember i loved hearing the story in the beginning of Frith and Elra, and the song bright eyes made me want to cry as a kid. It's so great to experience the movie on another level.

  • thanks for this mate.it was on itv3 last week and it was cut to frigging ribbons.

  • Terrific adaptation of the book. Faithful to the story and really captures the "feel."

  • I was very much distracted by the farmers thick janer accent :L Otherwise, yeah this is an inspirational book and the film adaptation, as you can see, is AMAZING!

  • This is hands down the best animated film ever made, my friends and I reference the balck rabitt on a regular occasions. Death is the the proof you have lived, and awareness of your surroundings is imperative. Great story.

  • This movie was beautiful both good and sad I cried when my favorite characters got hurt or died

  • well crud, ive rewatched the movie, i suppose im going to have to reread the book! :D

  • Trying to figure out where the seagul is from haha , any suggestions?

  • @JRokicki1312 some seagulls wonder over lands away from the sea, he goes back to the "big water" when he helps the rabbits.

  • @xDarkBlazeAngelx yea but what accent does he have

  • @JRokicki1312 Keehar has a Eastern European accent, Im not sure what country.

  • @JRokicki1312 -- Supposedly, the author of Watership Down based Kehaar (the seagull) on a Norwegian he had once known...both in accent and temperament.

  • "dogs aren't dangerous!"

    BULLSHIT

  • This has highly disturbed me.

  • @KamoiSakata Haha, how? This movie was my childhood movie, I loved it from 3 years old.

  • @xDarkBlazeAngelx I just don't think this is a movie kids should be watching to be honest..I'd never let my kids watch something like this.

  • @KamoiSakata ah well, thats your choice, but come on, its only animation.

  • @KamoiSakata why not? wonderful story, great animation, beautiful music. You can't shield kids from death forever. Might as well never let them own a pet either.

  • @TheAmericaninexile I know you can't shield them from it, but shoving it right infront of their face isn't something I would do. Animals of Farthing wood? Yes, fine, because its not all blood and gore, but you still know what happens.

  • damn nature you scary!!!!

  • Wow thanks! I never knew this film existed. It almost, just almost, does the book justice, and I would know - I read the book three times!! Animation was so different in the 70s, and this film isn't for those with ADHD who are used to watching fast-pace, overly-dramatic films

  • @OneMondBand Is the movie suitable for people with Asperger's Syndrome?

  • @twilightwindwaker Are you being serious? If you are, then just let me know the specific concerns you'd have regarding someone w/ AS watching the video.

  • @OneMondBand I have that condition so I'm curious if this is suitable for me to watch.

  • @twilightwindwaker There are some unsightly visuals depicting blood and physical violence between rabbits, but if you don't think that would bother you too much (remember it's only animation!), then yes it should be fine. Enjoy! I recommend the book. It's excellent.

  • I've never seen or heard of this movie, but now I'm glad I've found it. Thank you for putting this up here.

  • 46:49 - 47:35 IS SO FUNNY ! XD

  • brilliant and beautiful film xx

  • I watched it when i was like 5 years. I found it unsettling in places but i was really drawn into the story and loved it.

  • press 3 fast he is sneezing

  • @dave56902 yea, but the tv series tried to get as much out of the book as possible

  • @dave56902 1 of my favorite films of all time and Batteries not included yes i was born in 1984 the year when they made films like these :-D

  • one of the best films ever made, still as good as it was when I first saw it (1986)

  • I got here from Dragon Ball Z...

  • The end made me cry... And I NEVER CRY.

  • does anyone know why youtube isn't working? or is it just me? because it stops the video about 20 seconds in and won't play anymore and makes me mad.

  • Thankyou for posting this video(: I just read the book, and I wanted to see if there was a movie, and there was! Thank you.

  • I dont know why I got this movie confused with the Velveteen Rabbit

  • This movie scared the shit out of me when I was little.

  • epic!

  • thank you ,

  • Did the bird say "Piss off"????

  • yes i think it did lol

  • @SqueakerThePinkKitty yep, This was my favourite childhood movie since I was 3, I always kept saying piss off, my mum got so mad. lol

  • @SqueakerThePinkKitty No he said his name Kee-har, this is a frequent refrain

  • @QAMaster1138 "We help you."

    "Keehar."

Doesn't make that much sense, don't you think?

  • @SqueakerThePinkKitty yes i heard him.

  • I love Kehaar. "You plenty good fella".

  • Absolutely one of my favorite films of all time I'm so glad you put this up thank you so much
