@MrThomasHandley My PSU is a Corsair 950 Watts. You'll need this with your dual GPU which I remember you saying you had so therefore you should have something of this calibar that came with your rig, no?
@MrThomasHandley 1100 watt is more than enough. Normally you shouldn't need to change the PSU for a new motherboard. It should be a standard socket connection.
@nabarundevreeze I use wide-tent on full for AA and adaptive multisampling. Supersampling destroys fps. I checked out your videos and they are a great. I have one tip for you. Ati cards do not like fraps under DX9 and hence why you get visible lower fps in your movies. I found by accidednt that when you run under DX10 Fraps has absolutely no impact and you loose no fps. So when making a movie (or parts of it) use DX10 to record with fraps.
will i be able to run fsx with high setting with an itel core 2 duo E8400 at 3ghz, 2gb of ram and an radeon hd5770 1gb??? and is it true that nvidia video cards better handle weather phenomena like clouds... what is the difference betwen fps in a clear day and in a overcast day on your PC??? anyway thx for help and nice video... really smooth fps :)
@nikia320 Regarding the E8400, I'd say you would be able to run at medium settings with low weather settings. Because FSX is cpu dependent even clouds affect on performance will depend on the cpu as well as the gpu. My setup gives high fps 40+ with or without clouds but only if I use the default FSX. When I start throwing in add-ons and then have clouds I might get 25fps. It just depends on the add on or what plane your using. It's very subjective. Sometimes it even depends on the cloud type...
@nikia320 ....(cont) I'm using. I'd say the Nvidia 480 and 470 are better for FSX than the Ati cards from what I've read. Although the price difference is what makes ATi more worthwhile. As I said i reckon you'd get medium settings on that rig.
@CaNxYoUxStoP Certainly as good, probably better as it is slightly newer technology. I think the gtx 470 or 480 is the way to go graphics not that my 5870 isn't impressive but the 470 and 480 seem to work very well when it comes to FSX from what I've seen.
@CaNxYoUxStoP I would do a bit more research on the flight sim forums such as Orbx's forum and you'll find out that FSX likes the achitecture of the 470 and 480 very much. Remember you can't use normal comparisons of graphics cards you find on review sights as FSX using the graphics card in a very different way to other games. Also you will have a headache trying to find a happy medium with settings when it comes to the catalyst tools. I am forever fiddling with it and changing drivers.
@CaNxYoUxStoP I have heard good reports about the 5850 but not nearly as good as the reports regarding the 470. I'm not sure what the price difference is. If it's massive then go with the 5850 for now but don't expect it to be necessarily the easiest to tweak with FSX.
i am looking to buy a new computer...is ATI Raedon better than Nvidia? and also shall i get a dual graphics card or a single? Great video im also looking to put an i7 920 on there too
hmm. i still don't know what graphics card to go with. i want one of ati's 5000 series graphics card. my budget is 300 canadian dollars??? which one is good?????? please help me and btw i want one that will work great with fsx and other pieces of software.
i think you need vertical sync turned on here to lose the screen waves.
On my system I get annoyed with autogen popping up even though I have good spec system. Do you know what remedy that because i dont see it happening on your vid
This was my first video and I hadn't enabled vsync at this stage. As far as I know there is nothing that can be done to stop the autogen from popping up. Its the way FSX is programed.
DX9 oder DX10-preview on this video?? do you have texture flickering on runways with your card? VSync works with DX10? Bloom effect and G-effect works?
question, i just bought a new desktop, i7- 920 ( 2.66 GHz ), 8 Gigs ram and a Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5. does it really perform better to overclock the CPU? i know i'd have to get it watered cooled, but do you really see the difference between 2.66 and 3.80 ? with the setup i got, will i be able to run just about max graphics details. if it does make a difference, how much faster can i overclock the cpu before going watercooled? Thanks for your time!
It makes a big difference in fsx to overclock from 2.66 to 3.8 or 4ghz (where I am at now). The best way to do this is a small bit at a time and download something like 'realtemp' to check your temperature as your going along so you don't damage anything. Make sure it stays below 80. Doing this will depend on what cooler you have. I am using a Fenrir air cooler. What are you using? With a stock cooler you wouldn't be able to go up that high safely.
Ok so i could probably run the CPU at 3.8 then... the cooler i have now is the stock one, i know i would have to get a better cooler, and watercooling just looks expensive. Is the Titan Fenrir Air cooler the one to buy for this? Im a noob at overclockig and certainly wouldnt wanna fry my $1500 computer... ive looked at a couple different video's for overclocking, im just a little scared of messing up the cpu... i might ask a friend to look into this for me
Yes I have a Titan Fenrir. It seems very good at keeping things cool. FSX never brings my temps above 60 @4ghz. I would definitely not risk overclocking to 3.8ghz on a stock cooler despite what you may read. I would say maximum 3.2ghz. Do this incrementally eg. 2.6 -2.8, 2.8 - 3.0ghz etc checking your cpu temp as you run fsx (in windowed mode so you can see both. Overclocking is relatively easy with the i7. What motherboard do you have? - mines a Gigabyte UD3
i think you need to go at least to 3.8 to run fsx smooth. I have mine OC'd to 3.6 right now and i still have problems at airports and lower altitudes over highly populated areas like Los Angeles. I am running it at ultra high settings though...
Heh and how do you want to say that more constructively? Why? Ok - FSX is great game! Your video is great! But with Ati cards people have just one small problem wich have really big impact on general impression. That problem is Vsync. There is no way how to force Vsync on on Ati cards in FSX without problems like flashing image etc.. And worst thing on it is, that this situation probably never wil be fixed. I was waiting one year for their new drivers, Than I have to switched to Nvidia.Good luck
ha, two things I was going to buy, a sony cyber shot and the Ati graphics card. lol. What's the model of the camera? And generally, whats the FPS around Manhattan with settings on ultra high?
hey nice video indeed , just have a request , can u make a demo with Ultra High Settings and Stormy Weather and a PMDG 744 in LFPG Aerosoft Scenery , i wanna know how much u get with and without fraps please .
I heard ATI cards are bad with FSX especially when many clouds are being rendered. But apparantly this is not true? I hope so because I'd prefer ATI over NVIDIA
The issue with previous ATI cards was mainly concerned with the rendering of clouds in FSX. This has been fixed with the 5000 series and clouds have minimal to zero impact . If you are on the fence over whether to get a 5870 for fsx I would say don't be as long as you have a good cpu so that bottleneck doesn't occur. FSX is very cpu dependent.
I'm glad to hear that :) I have a shitty computer but when I upgrade I will now buy an ATI card for sure. They have good performance and are attractively priced. I hope you enjoy FSX on your new card!
