Neither was it necessaruily on the forehead or the back of the right hand as it would be during the tribulation period. I'm not so sure this is accurate. The Bible clearly says that if we do not accept the mark on the FOREHEAD OR HAND we would not be able to buy or sell. Revelation 13:16-18 In order to stop someone from buying or selling, it would mean that there was a government system in place to prevent it. The mark of the lamb is a God's mark, who is a spirit. But the accepting the mark that prevents people from being able to buy or sell means that it becomes a law in the economic system at that time.

The mark of the beast, "666" is code for the Roman Emperor Nero. It has nothing to do with modern times. "John", who supposedly wrote the book of Revelations about the return of the fictional character Jesus hated the Romans and wanted someone to kill them. John was in exile because he was insane (we didn't have anti-psychotic medication then), and was very angry, so he wrote his rant. Today, some crazy people still believe his rant. We have medication today, so seek treatment if you do believe.

The 3-1/2 year time period (Rev 11) is the same as the 42 months spoken (Rev 13) when the siege of Jerusalem occurred.

This was the Spring of 67 to the Fall of 70.

The two Lampstands and the two Olive trees are from Zechariah 4. They symbolize the Law and the Prophets -- the actual words of the Old Testament testifying against the Jews.

Josephus gives an account of the plagues that befell Jerusalem, the prophets spoke against the Jews and the very day that the glory of God left the Temple.

That had to do with the markets in and around the Temple in the 1st century. Jesus chased the money changers out of the Temple for spiritual reasons. They thought they could buy the grace of God. But there was also a political and economic aspect. The money changers could not run their business unless they supported indirectly the Caesar cult. The Romans had set up their garrison within sight of the Temple and in fact the Sanhedrin got its authority from the Romans, not from the Law of God.

I have heard sometime in the 90's AD. According to wikipedia there are disputing viewpoints which state 67 or 68 AD, or 90 AD.

So lets say you're right and it was written in 64AD. You're viewpoint that all the events of revelations happened immediately after the death and ressurrection of Jesus is extremely contrived.

Jesus said on the cross "Father forgive them for they know not what they do", but later John gets a vision directly from Jesus and is condemning them?

Some of the Latin church fathers interpreted Irenaeus (writing in Greek) as saying John saw his revelation in the time of Domitian. But it's clear that Irenaeus meant to say that JOHN was seen by others in the time of Domitian ("almost in our day") but did not reveal the identity of 666 if he himself knew it.

The time statements of Revelation are key. John is saying these things will come to pass "near," "Shortly," "quickly."

That puts the prophecy sometime in the reign of Nero.

Jesus does forgive His murderers, but prior to this He also says:

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate."

He forgives an unwilling people.

Which verse? I just read the entire chapter of Revelations 13 KJV and see nothing about "five were ... one is yet to come".

Regardless, these diverse interpretations of revelations is all rather unimportant in my mind. Since Christ hasn't returned to earth as he left the earth, I will prepare for all eventualities and not be lulled to sleep.

As Proverbs 6 talks about considering the ant, so we should prepare.

The Beast is the fourth kingdom of Daniel and is the Roman Empire.

The six Emperors are Julius, Augustus, Tiberius, Claudius, Caligula, NERO.

John was interpreting Daniel. He's giving Christians in the Empire a warning about coming persecution (64-67 AD -- 3-1/2 years) and he is warning about the judgment on Jerusalem and telling the Christians it is time to abandon the city (67-70 AD -- 3-1/2 years).

If you take the Bible literally then the prophecies of Revelation had to come about in a shorter time period than what lapsed between Daniel and John.

The time was far off in Daniel's day yet it was near in John's. There has been about 2000 years between Rev. and now but there was only about 490 years between Daniel and John. You would have to say that 2490+ years was far off and 2000 years were near. That is a "flawed viewpoint".

The book of Revelation dovetails with the Mount of Olives Sermon. Jesus said in 30 AD that "this generation shall not pass away until all these things come to pass." In Revelation, Jesus is again telling the church, in about 64 --67 AD, that "the time is at hand."

Optimistic eschatology doesn't lull us to sleep. We don't think that we need to run to the hills because the best is coming, on the contrary we are to go into all the world and preach the Gospel.
