  • Thank you so much. This is one of the greatest poems by the greatest poet. My dad always recited this and many of the others by Robert Service, to me growing up. My dad's been gone for about 8 years, but sometimes I open my, "Collected Poems of Robert Service" and sit for hours, and recite, to myself, my very favorite poems, from that book. (Hoping that maybe my daddy is listening.) Thanks, so much!!! ~Peace Out~

  • Wonderful reading. Thank you for posting.

  • I too heard my father recite this wonderful poem! I smile EVERY TIME I hear it read well! Thanks for the smile!

  • I don't know if it's deliberate or just an effect of the mic you used, but that slight tinny reverb really added alot to the reading. Just the right touch of unearthlyness for the poem.

  • Thanks! I finnally get this poem!!

  • a long time ago i commented and said i didnt like your voice... i second thought that about a year later... great voice

  • Iron Maiden should write a song based on this. Like Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Sam Coolridge. It would be awesome!

  • One of the greatest poems ever written. I enjoyed your rendition. I have been looking for a good reading of that poem for a while. Well done.

  • I lay in my fathers lap as a baby as he would recite this poem from memory. Then 20 years later I recited it from memory to my son. Now I have repeated this process with all three of my grandchildren. Hopefully one or more of them will carry on the tradition.

  • Well done. Nice narration. Your efforts are appreciated. Nice illustrations as well - I wish I could draw like that.

  • A classic piece of Canadiana. If you can get a copy of the hardcover book featuring this poem with the iconic paintings of Ted Harrison, do it. That book began my fascination with the north, Robert Service, and Ted Harrison. All wonderful things.

RIP Marcus Pier. Thank you for this.

  • @HarfagerXXV Thank -you !!! !!! for your comment here !!! It is greatly appricated by True Yukoners !!! I shudder to think , that , this is the only version of Robert Service that so many

  • I've been transfixed by the reading of this poem by Johnny Cash, which prompted me to check this out.

Sorry to hear about Marcus Pier. RIP.

  • On Christmas day of this year, 2009, director and producer Marcus Pier took his own life. I would like to dedicate this production to his memory, God speed Mark.

  • I want to thank everybody who has taken the time to comment on this poem. Robert Service is a poet that should be known by many generations, and will never die because of his amazing writings that he left behind. Keep those comments coming! Almost 8000 views and only 4 comments? What gives? Enjoy everyone!
