I never intended to re-enlist but one enlistment led to another and I found myself deciding to make it a career once I hit the 10 year mark! This is why I have such disdain for college kids who have no idea what they're talking about. I'm an Iraq veteran and when I got home, my buddies and I are at a bar and ran into these chickenhawks who talked tough about war and were like "Did you kill anybody?" I flipped the fuck out and told them to shut the fuck up. If you support war, but are too chickenshit to fight it yourself, you have no right to ask those who've fought it what it's like.

I never intended to re-enlist but one enlistment led to another and I found myself deciding to make it a career once I hit the 10 year mark! The majority of the USA military vote Republican which suggests that the GOP remains the traditional supporter of America's armed services. But the film maker has a point in highlighting the elites absence from direct military involvement. This is true for all the other western democracies where no front line politician has any combat experience. The values of militarism needs to be inculcated into the young if we are to remain strong and universities should develop programs to support this.

The Left has no credibility attacking conservatives level of service in the military. A disproportionate number of young people serving are conservative. You seldom see the Chelsea Clintons (or Bill Clinton or Barack Obama) serving. Yet, Democrats send our young men and women to war at least as often as Republican Presidents. Me personally I did things on the home front to help the war effort, and in some small measure I like to think I did my part. What have you done? Some people need to stay behind and do all the other jobs so economy keeps running. Is everyone who doesn't serve a coward? I honor those who do serve, but none of them every spoke down to me.

1. There does need to be a home front, but Iraq/Afgnahistan is nothing like WW2, we don't need a million people for one, as the government is not in the total war phase in these ops.

1. Perhaps we should be in total war mode, it seems our enemies are and are conspiring with nations as well as terrorist groups to destroy our nation. Whether you like our foreign policy or not they still want you dead.
2. For many on the left there isn't a good war, just police actions humanitarian aid, over seas contingency operations. Maybe you respect for soldiers, but I've heard far to many not be.

Our foreign policy is the reason so many countries hate us and asshats like the Taliban gain the ability to thrive. The Iranian coup we headed caused harm for the people and made it possible to become a fundie hellhole. Many Islamic countries hate us because we spread "democracy" to countries that didn't need us or want us. Afghanistan was a blowback. Iraq goes back a long way. We created nearly all of our enemies today. They would have no legitimacy if we simply stopped bombing-

What I am trying to get across is, there are people who question others patriotism when they oppose a war or not fight in it WHILE themselves wormed their way out. It is those I generally think of as cowards. As for protesters, it depends on what they do. I believe marches are weak, and simply complaining in numbers is not an effective strategy. Now, a organization like Wikileaks, risk alot in protesting the way they do, but they have governments waking up with brown pajamas...

Most peace demonstrators aren't very patriotic, because they don't ever see a need to put anything at risk to protect the system they claim to love. They've learned since the 60's not to call soldiers murders, but are little better. You look down on those who do serve and those who don't.

Mandatory service is a thing of the past and the military doesn't want it, and many don't want to serve for a host of reasons I won't judge even if I think them cowardly or lazy. For example, I regard LBJ as low as Bush, and do not like any war mongering leader, regardless of their party. Liberals, also, are not the only ones who don't vote. MANY people who should be voting aren't, yet they either whine or say "politics is boring" while struggling to find work.

Bring back the draft! Mandatory service should be passed into law. It would build a better country. It would show people that we are all in this together. Think I'm wrong? Look at the WW2 generation, the greatest generation of the 20th century. They knew they were going into a meat grinder, but they still went and kicked ass!!

Without a conflict on a scale comparable to World War II, a draft would likely do what it did by the time of the Vietnam War, affecting mostly those without the resources to serve in 'other ways'--such as attend college like these young war supporters here.
