  • nice...

  • I REALLY LOVED my Yamaha Oak Custom, very underrated drums. They bark with some serious tone and low end.

  • @drumzac i have a set now, there great, very different sounding....Defs have a sound of there own....Snare is crap though. Bought a 14x7 Brass Novuea Lug instead :D

  • Hey @gshdrums it's funny that you say that about the oak custom snare because i'm not sure if i really like my snare either. My kit is 22x17, 10x8, 12x9, 14x12 with the 5 1/2 snare. I just find it hard to get the sound i want out of the snare..iv'e tried different heads..remo coated ambs, controlled reverse dot, and coated pinstripe's. I just feel i'm getting a dry & kind of boring sound with not much character. It pisses me off. But it's got so much power though..a real thunder cracker!

  • @gshdrums.....but i read a review about an oak custom once and they raved on about how awesome the snare is. Agh i dunno. What i like best about the oak snare is the power..it's like driving a souped up v8, just a prod at the throttle and the power is there. Same thing with the oaks..heaps of power at a flick of the wrist. Also i luv the massive tuning range. Maybe ill try changing snare wires to a 18 or 20 strand because i think they are fitted with 12 or 14 strand wires..il see if that helps!

  • @delitemyheart i talked a a guy that tours the world, he hates the snare on it, most of the time you will NEVER see any pros using the snare. I love the rest of the kit though, especially the 10"

  • @hdrums Yeah i think your right. Also i think that akira jimbo doesnt use the oak snare either. I'm thinking of buying a steel snare drum actually.I think it will match the oakies well.I also luv the rest of the drums too..they sound amazing. At the moment i've got evans G-plus on the toms & a Emad 3 on the kick..and i hate them. That external muffling ring on the Emad kills the kicks presence in the mix.Oakies a very sensitive to heads.Cant beat ambs or emperors on toms & powerstroke3 on the kick!

  • @delitemyheart I have ambassadors on bottom emperors on top, PS3 on kick.........Apparently G1 and G2`s work great on them to which is what im trying next. I have a Yamaha Brass Nouvea Lug 14x7 Snare.....words cant describe it, not over tones or ring just all slap and crack.

  • @gshdrums True...and cause G1's are the equivalent to ambassadors & G2's are equivalent to emperor's.But i think Evans generally have better quality.Im going to try clear G1's on top & bottom next.I also hear that coated g1's are also very good on top for the oakies.Man i'm talking to the right person cause iv'e been debating whether i should go for a steel, brass or copper snare drum. So u luv the brass huh? How would u compare it to steel? They say brass has a darker sound..would that be true?

  • @delitemyheart Alot darker, not the point where it doesnt really have any over ring.......copper is a little to soft for me........steel is very sharp and rings alot, brass is a softer metal so you get the crack but it is alot softer and fatter without the ring, and copper is just to soft sound for me....look them up on here and you should find your answer

  • @gshdrums ...i just watched some videos on snares...yeah the brass is awesome. I also really really dig the sound of the absolute nouveau aluminium snare drum by yamaha also. It sounds incredible..it almost sounds like a wooden snare drum but with heaps more crack and very musical, which would make it easy to articulate/get different sounds out of. Gunna go for 6 1/2 deep this time :)

  • that is a nice sounding oak kit.

  • @delitemyheart

I own a 5 piece shell kit and I can honestly say that the 10 inch tom is in fact 10" diameter by 8" depth.

  • That kick sounds amazing. Are there any videos with this kit fully mic'd?

  • @philconey11 Look up Mike Stern live in Paris Dave Weckl. It is the new morning concert, Dave has oaks on that gig and they sound unbelievable!

  • this Yamaha Oak customs are by far the BEST sounding drums from all yours drums video,s !!!

  • @BERZITI

I totally agree with you....no other kit has the unique sound of Oak nor do any other kits have the wood grain of Oak...they not only sound marvelous...they look as good as they sound. They tune down low and sound marvelous...they tune in the medium range and sound marvelous and they tune high ( Jazz ) and sound Marvelous. I decided to go with a Loud Series 14 x 7 snare drum.

  • 6 peice

  • BD was great. The rest was not in my liking.

  • Wow!! Those drums we're future on the wiggles live hot potatoes1!!

  • @delitemyheart thank you for all the information

  • i know this a yamaha video so many of you will proably say yamaha, but im looking in getting a new kit and i cant decide between the yamaha oaks or the ludwig classic maples. I need some help in deciding. Thanks

  • @MrCujo32 Oakies all the way. I have an oak custom and i dont think i will play anything else. In my opinion oak gives me what maple or birch cannot give. Maple is very warm & round.Birch is warm too but it has much better attack & brightness. Oak hahaha is about as warm as birch but with even more attack but loads more bottom end than birch. Oakies are very responsive..you just touch them n they fly. They give back always..the harder you hit..the more they bark back at u..unlike birch or maple!

  • @MrCujo32 i tell you what. Go to a drum shop where they have the new yamaha dtx electronic drums. Have a play on the different kits. The sound samples in those electronic drums are a recorded from yamaha's accoustic drums.Try the maple custom, birch custom and the oak custom. I personally guarentee you that you wont want to play any other kit. you will press the button on "oak custom" and leave it there.Seriously just try it for yourself. It will be a no brainer once you hear it.

  • @MrCujo32 Oak is an extremely hard wood..thus making it very difficult to work with. Other manufactures have tried to make drums out of oak but they failed. Only yamaha have been able to make drums out of this wood due to their know how and technology(air seal system).

If you hit birch or maple drums hard..there is a limit to how much it responds back to you. You get to a point where there is no point hitting any harder cause you wont get any louder. But oak..the harder u hit..the louder it gets

  • @MrCujo32 I've looked at COUNTLESS drum sets and I still come back to the Oaks. I also looked into the Ludwig Classic Maples. They are possibly better suited to jazz? as to my knowledge have a rounder sound but the Oaks are have more attack and presence but will work in practically any situation including jazz. It really depends on the sound you like and what you want them for. I've heard some people say they don't like Oaks (but not many) so it's best to try them in person if you can.

  • @MrCujo32 I fell in love with the Oaks without even knowing it. I wandered into a store and played a red drumset and it blew me away. I knew it was a Yamaha but nothing more. I researched kits for a couple of years and was attracted to the Oaks and was set on them. I happened to pop into that same store one day and ask "What was that red Yamaha you used to have siting there". "Oak Custom" was the reply.

  • sex in drum kit form.

  • I have an oak custom with vintage emperors for batters and an aquarian super kick II on the kick. It has a 20in kick and i put a kick port in it...sound unbelievable.

  • @cymbalfusion how would you describe the sound of oak drums to birch?

  • With how many microphones is this recorded? Sounds very good!

  • @2DBrothers Thank you! One Avant Tube mic behind the drums . . . one Audix D6 in front of the kick

  • @cymbalfusion *shrug* I think they sound good with the G2's.

  • What kind of heads were on the kit for this clip? Thanks.

  • having a hell of a hard time deciding between the oak customs and the rock tour series.

  • @khaostheory117

    Just get the oak customs

  • @iamnitrox can you give me reasons why?

  • @khaostheory117 I own a new Oak Custom kit and the Oak kit has more volume than maple and more attack than birch and the tone is unlike either maple or birch. After 4 months of playing the Oak Customs, I would never go back to maple, birch nor ash. I put aquarian Focus-X coated heads on my kit and they just sound marvelous. No harmonic ring but yet retain just a perfect amount of sustain. The Oak Customs are one of Yamaha's top 4 Pro drum kits...the rock tour are in the intermediate series.

  • @khaostheory117 really? Rock Tour sound very flat and dead to me.....Oak tones and sound is sooo much better....

  • @gshdrums have you ever heard the rock tour in person? definitely not flat or dead. they have a nice thick short punch with such great lows and mids.

  • @khaostheory117 yeh ive played one. i think the oak kicks its butt.....The Rock Custom had pin stripes on though. But was short and punchy and i think flat...

  • @gshdrums all rock customs come standard with the pinstripes. far from my favorite heads. they sound pretty awesome with some evans g2s and an evans emad kick batter. the oaks are awesome don't get me wrong i just think the rock tours are a bit more versatile.

  • @khaostheory117 Rock Tours are completely under-rated . . . killer bass drum sound. I hope they catch on soon.

  • @cymbalfusion i'm sure they will catch on at some point. and I agree, the bass drum is just amazing. i just think yamaha may want to take a more aggressive approach towards marketing them.

  • @cymbalfusion there is no way there more versitile, there all low end, where the oak is low mid and high......

  • @khaostheory117 - It came down to those two kits for me, and ultimately it depends on your situation. I went with the Rock Tour because I knew it'd make a better fit for me and my gigs. I didn't want to spend the extra money on a pro-level kit when occasionally I've got random people helping me quickly tear down my set so the next band can get on, in fear someone might damage my kit. I am extremely happy with the Rock Tour, but you can bet my next set is going to be an Oak Custom.

  • @LeftoverPenguin for me its not about the level of the kit. personally i see no huge difference and hardware that's going to make me pick one kit over the other. for me its purely coming down to the tone i want. and now i think i've ruled out the oak customs but i've now taken a liking to the ludwig keystone series. so now its down to the rock tour or the keystones. and i think the keystones are going to win out. just loud and fat tones with great mids and lows.

  • man you should try out for guitar center drum off your a really good drummer

  • @777samuraijosh Look up Alphonzo Lovelace on Youtube Guitar Center Drum Off . . . he won for Virginia a while back. I will pass on the kind words to him. Thanks!
