amazing vid. can you tell me the weight of the rats are that you feed your different sized bp? its hard to tell what size they are in your video. thanks alot!! P.S. i wouldn't mind if you put more rat videos on here.
Bro I really need your advice my baby spider ball python is in a 90 gallon tank with one other ball and ate his first meal but hasn't ate since its been about 3 or so weeks and I am real worried he hasn't really lost weight but he has gotten a skin fold I am actually going to get him assist fed from the local trusted pet store owner tomorrow but I need to know what to do for the future he has a back drop 3 hiding spots temps are 78-80 at day 70-72 at night with fresh water daily please respond
@cubsare11 Baby bp's shouldn't be in too big of a tank. It stresses them out, and stress may cause them to not want to eat. Put it in a smaller tank so that it feels safe and secure. Then it will most likely begin to eat again.
What would you say is a reasonable number of mice per cage if I were growing out feeder mice in a ten gallon aquarium? W20in L10in H12in. Thanks for your time. :)
My ball python is like a foot in a half, I feed him frozen thawed fuzzies, He does not go for it so I have to assist feed her then he will eat it ,Is that still heathly.
How many rats do you produce. i am trying to get more rats so i can sell them at michigans first venomous reptile show. Right now i have about 150 rats and by the show in october i can have about 250. It would be more if i didn't use 20 rats a week for my snakes.
Dude, even though your gunna kill your rats for snakes, still have respect for them.. I'm sure you'd get pissed off if someone treated your snakes like that, you dont throw newborn babies around like that - i think you should rethink your stratagem
Justin, What is the best substrate for mouse breeding odor mitigation? or for whatever reason one type is better than another. Thanks Jeff Nix - Panola Mountain State Park
To be honest I'm not a fan of the way you handled the mice/rats I think it was a bit too rough, even though they are for feeding purposes you should still take into consideration they're living creatures, you wouldn't want someone to just chuck one of your baby snakes back into it's tank would you? I do however find your videos to be very informative and prefect for someone who is looking to gain more knowledge on the subject of feeding ect.
@XxVeiinxX ya i agree, i breed rats and even though they will obviously end up being killed and fed to a snake you should still treat them well. having said that rats and mice are vary resilient animals. i had a baby with a huge gash on it's back in my last litter . the gash was an inch long and a half inch wide on a pinkie that was not even two inches long. a little peroxide on it's back twice a week until it healed and the rat is still alive some 4 months later
hey justin, all of my bp's are 2010's in the 200 to 300 gr range. im raising them up for breeding and i've been feeding them one rat pup every five days. at what point or at what weight should i spread this out to one meal every seven days? and does it differ for males and females? thanks...phil
@1980norcal - there's no "right answer" to that. I slow down my feeding as they go into the 500g range, but honestly I often feed snakes differently based on how they are growing, how badly I want to breed them, how they act etc.
Hey Justin, Do you ever have any shedding issues with your ball pythons?? Just curious... Ive got a closed air rack system and sometimes i have some sheding issues. I Have a boaphile racks with decent sized water bowls and paper substate
just because they are feeder mice doesnt give you the right to throw them into the cage, i have no problem with feeding live rodents, just treat them right before they are fed, be respectful
Justin Everyone's looking for you Brother, haven't made a vid in a month, Don't you DIE" on me man ..lmao nah but you always keep everyone listening you teach others and also give us great vid's of the Hottest Ball Pythons out there, Guess we just miss you Justin(AWWWW) LOL And watch Tosh 2.0 on comedy Central Funny as Hell.. TTYL Im out..
Hey Justin I just got a pair of pastel's Tuesday an went to get them two mice pinky's a piece an they haven't touched em I was wondering what was wrong an call the breeder asked have they ate anytime b4 he sent them to me he said yes twice. he also said I shouldn't feed them pinkys and only give hoppers an small mice do you agree Bcuz they don't move much an the snake's wont want em. thanks Derrek
Justin, I know you have live rats/mice, but do you feed them all live? Do you feed some fresh kill or F/T? If you do fresh kill, how do you euthanize them? I'm sure you don't want to do a vid on this, but I was curious because I have a couple of snakes that are very finicky eaters. Too shy for live and I'm afraid they will hurt my snake but also not all that interested in frozen thawed, I want to try fresh killed, but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Hey JK, i agree with you on the assist feeding. My friend has a albino that has not eaten on his own since he was born. He has assisted him in feeding since he was born last year. The little guy is so small though. My friend said he will try one more week and then will let nature take its course. I told him to let me take him for a few weeks and see what i can do. I have one female mojave that will eat then stop for months then eat, but she has great weight.
I'm loving your tip videos. I have a BP that is just under 200grams and has only eaten for me twice since I got him. Now he just refuses to eat everytime I offer him food. Is it normal for a BP this small/young to be acting this way? It's been about a month since the last time he ate. Also I've searched for many tips on how to get my BP to eat, I read one about dipping the rat in tuna or chicken broth..has that ever worked for anyone? Or the one about rubbing gerbil poop on the rat?
@myleosaresosick - I don't breed hairless rodents because of the snakes... I like to make a few of them, because the are unique... I've the snakes don't care if the rodent is hairless or not, and swallow it just as easily either way.
Oh he just tossed them, they landed on soft chipped aspen. I guarantee those babies are STILL alive. I also missed the "thud" you speak of. Give the guy a break he just trying to help people out. Thanks JKR for the great tips really helped me out. Works better than just eying it out like I've been doing.
Hey Justin, Since you have comments towards beginners, I have one more point I find important for new snake owners, not saying you have to feel the same. Alot of people new to snakes may have been told "If you have a problem feeding live, you can feed F/T"(common selling point used in petshops). Problem here is the person interprets this as "just go ahead and feed F/T." I have dealt with this alot and the issue is in clarity of the message... Sometimes some just don't want a f/t.
Awesome vid. Had a ball of mine decide to eat after a 4 month fast and he's about 650g empty, so that was good to know. How long would you wait to assist feed a stubborn hatchling?
Thank you for the video Justin!!! It was much appreciated, it was very educational for all and gave a lot of people some tips. You are one of the good guys in this industry who try to help and educate people. I look forward to next weeks video.
my pastel ball python is my only snake that will not eat frozen thawed.I get a great deal on f/t and my family hates me feeding live does anyone know how i could get him to change to frozen??
@pastel0711 so what method does your pastel eat? if it eats pre-kill, feed the 2nd feeding a f/t one. continue this method for 3 times straight, then one the 4th time, offer f/t straight.
