the whole thing seemed like it should've been a TV show rather then a movie, also when Johhny flies into space( 6:02 ), he would not be on fire, there's no air in space, just saying
Man The last time I watch the show is not the same. THe ending is that the girl was being interview by the reporters and she say 'this is the last time i will do this' , then she run away from the reporters and open all her shirt and dissaper. Do anyone know which show is this related in???
jesus christ they look like smurfs 5:00 loool and she is smurfett hahaha ....anyway...you know you have to give some credit to the people who did this movie it takes courage for that...and if it weren't for those movies back then, we would never have these movies today like they are..you never really know but I gess its like that... I gess :)
Nice I thougt Johnny would never flame on and when he did it looked good really good. And the beam struggle looked exactely like the one from the Superman cartoon 1940. It´s a okay film they did it with a budget of 1,5 million instead of the Silver surfer on Holy WEB FLUID 130 MILLION DOLLARS!!!! This Ben Grimm could battle the Hulk aka Lou Ferrigno.
O.M.G. Worse than a 1980's T.V. episode. I'll need to build two little robot companions before I ever watch this again. How could the actors and crew not figure out what a bomb this was in the making??
The Invisible Woman is in for one hell of a Honey Moon night, with Mr Fantastic ;-)!
This movie is definetely better then Batman and Robin, and also then Captain America 1990, maybe some others I cant remember right now.
Looks like it was made in 1984 not 1994, and it might be closer to the comics but the story is horrible, as is the acting, and most of the music- there are good things in it but no enough to say its good
I like the 2005 FF movie better, not saying is great but not bad as this
@f00tbol Really? The age is problem? It is not as old as the Star Wars films Alien, Poltergeist, Jaws most of the Star Trek films or hundreds of far superior films made before and since. I can and always do expect every film to be better than this and I think even Troll 2 makes it.
You know what's funny? This is awful, but at at least Corman somewhat tried, unlike the new FF movies, to capture the comic bookness. Yeah, he failed at it, but he tried.
Awesome movie! Take me back to when I was a little kid. Ah, the memories and speaking of which, if I recall correctly didn't Dr.Doom kill Reed Richards in one of the Fantastic Four renditions?
@TRE1275 That's the hollywood way, Starbuck, Boomer and Cmdr Cain are all made into women in the new BSG. Lucas made the force into a viral infection like mad cow disease in Ep I, Spock is a horn dog in the new ST movie, and MJ is PP's only love interest in the Spiderman films. Anyway, what does it matter if Alicia is black, chinese, one eyed one horned flying purple people eater, Ben is made of Stone he's not likely to date within his own... whatever, can't really call it a race now can we?
@kalelwannabe It's called continuity. Every character and story involving those characters has been laid out in the clearest of ways yet studios don't understand it nor will they ever because they're idiots and they often ruin what is perfectly fine because of egos or they want to pander to an audience. I personally know that with Daredevil and the 2 recent Fantastic Four, they made Kingpin and Alicia black because there is nary a black character in any Marvel flick.
@TRE1275 Okay fair point about continuity but if they feel they need to add characters of color to appeal to the the NAACP or whatever make them I don't know politicians or consultants like Fox in the Batman flicks, assuming that Fox doesn't exist as a white man in the comics not much of a Batman reader. anyway i agree the studios eff up these films by taking "Poetic License" or as Roland of Gilead would call them "pretty lies" and rewrite the history of an established genre for their own egos.
Blade was there 1ne, they gave up on Black Panther, Halle Berry did such a horrible accent dhat they made Storm american, so unless they pay Bishop some justice, Marvel has 2 make up black ppl, but Disney owns them now, so dhat's probably dha end of dhat!
my thoughts: what hurts this film (aside from the overacting by some) is the script. I can deal with camp and low graphics, what i cant deal with is the lack of good characterization and a decent plot. I2005s FF had these elements at least. Not even dicussing the sequel.
Where to begin, I caught part of this at a star trek convention in 96, never thought twice about it until I was looking up the fiinal scene of ROTSS. After having spent 90 mins or so watching this all I can say is scooby says it best RRRRRRRR??? Better then the currnt FF movies no but the current FF movies blow dead rats too. To date there has not been a decent cartoon or live action version of the FF. Just goes to show some franchises r better left alone.
Back in those days, we didn't have the special effects like we do now...marvel had too many super heroes that required special effects of that caliber.
This version s brilliant. I don't even see its brilliance as camp value either. It plays everything straight with all the earnest of a Jack KirbyFF comic. Pure innicence and creative abandon. Every shot framed like a drawing in a panel. Every line delivered with the aplomb of a comic character who is not concerned that he is flesha nd blood living in the "real world". This is a COMIC BOOK.
I don't think we formally met I'm Ben Grimm (Alicia holds out hand) I'm Alicia Masters (Ben Grabs her hand) Alicia: Did- Did you just put a piece of shit in my hand? Ben: Uh- HeHe No it's my hand Alicia: Don't lie to me I feel it it's all lumpy and WARM. Oh god you put a piece of shit in my hand, how could you?! Ben: IT'S MY HAND I SWEAR! Alicia: This is high school all over again! Ben: I'm serious it's my hand! Alicia: What us wrong with you- you horrible person. Damn I love this movie.
i think this was actually better than the 2005 movie. at least this movie has huge amounts of camp value, the 2005 crap-fest did not even have that much going for it.
What the hell is with the Human Torch scenes? I know the history behind this crap, they'd lose the rights and had to make it, but seriously, in 1994 there is no excuse for anything to look that bad.
Amusing. Sue, you should have given us a shower scene at least. Johnny, here's a thought; just melt the frigging cannon itself.. and you were DAMN lucky you didn't snuff out when you left the atmosphere. Ben, get some trousers on.. nobody needs to see that. Reed.. you couldn't spring for a tux at your OWN wedding?
So, wait... did the Human Torch just outrun light? And then block the entire destructive beam with his body somehow? Reed's clothing mysteriously stretching along with his arms I'll believe, but that's just some bullshit.
All in all I'd say I liked it. No complaints about the newer ones, but I even liked some things in this that I wish they would have done in the newer ones.
to all those who say about ben changing from the thing back to the a human and so forth, i was reading secret wars from the 80's lately and on the battle planet ben was changing to and from the thing, and at the end he didnt leave but mr fantastic mumbles something about he would tell ben about his powers but it would shatter a man even as strong as ben, meaning that he could control his powers if he wasnt such a meathead all the time. check it out
Hmm. I actually liked this. It's just over-the-top superhero fun that you don't have to take all that seriously. Of course, I don't like taking super-heroes seriously in general. The only part I would call foul on is the stuff with the Mole Man . . . er . . . The Jeweller. The inclusion of that stuff was just weird and vaguely pointless.
the fight scenes were waaaay to campy but the torch's flame scene was much better that I was informed. This is one flick where all the bad news seems to be one sided.
We interviewed the cast for SCARLET STREET and the cast was indeed quite enthused. I have to admit to enjoying this version. Considering how little money they truly had (1 /150th of what was spent on the 2004 version ),the actors and all are quite good. I truly wish this version could get a legit release- and OH what a commentary track it would have!
imo this 1994 version was not to bad. some cheesy parts but it sure as hell better than 2004 F4 ben grim way better than 2004 ben grim. dr.doom looks right from comic's
Are you completely insane? No one is going to claim the 2004 release was a staple of modern cinamatography (sp), but... there was nothing in this movie that was done better. Maybe truer to the OC plot while simultaneously mutilating the genre....
Honestly this could have been so much worse... I kinda liked it as a matter of fact... I agree with Chappy it sucks the lead actor was so into it for it to never be released. I heard the film makers at one point knew it was never going to come out but never told the cast that and thats just wrong lol
I think the best things about this film are The Thing...who looks and acts a lot more convincing than the new thing, and also Dr Doom. Doom really looks the part. It was fun enough, trashy good fun...I've seen a lot worse...
Ok yes as much as this film had its bad points like the moleman, the music, and things that just didn't make sense like the diamond wtf and ben changing back to human and then changing back the thing I have say it was not that bad of a film. It was ok. So everyone quit bashing it and just sit back and enjoy. This film was entertaining and quit bashing the new films as well. I mean in my opinion I though the new films were great. I think there the best superhero movies compared to others
I gotta admit for a movie back in the 90's it wasn't TOO bad, but damn the mole man parts made me want to stab myself with a screw driver. Couldn't they find a better way to do that or something else to put in there?
Not the worst movie though seen worse. Hell anyone seen the Nick Fury movie with David hassolhoff in it XD worst movie ever.
I do have to say that retarded looking freak arm sticking out of the sunroof at the end way way overdoing it though
I wish...after the release of Iron Man on dvd several months later they put out Hasselhoff's Fury movie it was @ Target. Marvel...sorry Disney has lost their f*cking mind $14.99 my a**
i read an old article in an issue of WIZARD from 1993 discussing the "upcoming" fantastic four film. it was really quite sad. the lead actor seemed VERY fired up about this franchise. he mentioned not being contracted for a sequel but being extremely enthusiastic for a sequel to happen... very sad.
I like it because its a 90's marvel movie, it wasn't really meant to be serious! It's a lot better than the 70's Spider-Man tv show, a lot better than the 70's Cpt. America & Doctor Strange movies....My only real complaint is Doom always waving his hands around like a WWE Diva making a grand entrance.
Besides the bad effects and the mole man, I liked the movie. The story was really good and the actors looked liked how I imagined the FF to look like. So all in all it was good. :D Thanks for posting it!
Oh, yeah, and the Torch can't fly at the speed of light, and the cheap animation (besides knocking off Fleischer's Superman vs. the electrothanasia ray) has the Torch with arms about half the length they should be. A truly bad film.
I know it's a Roger Corman cheapie but this movie is truly awful by any standard. The Thing suit is so poorly designed it looks like a combination of an Alien and kibbles and bits dog food. The other four's costumes are poorly made, too, with jaggedly cut and sewn parts (why the John Byrne blue and white and not the Jack Kirby blue and black?) Dr. Doom overacts even worse than Julian Glover does in the newer movies. Everyone who criticized Tim Story's movie should have been forced to watch this.
I love how, in your other comment, you carefully explain why a B movie works, but in this one, you seem to forget that this is a B movie. No offense meant, I just thought it odd.
The answer is simple enough though, when you think about it that way. Racing the beam itself is more exciting, and makes for a better climax, if Ben had smashed the emitter (assuming it wasnt one of those pesky lasers that explode when you hit it) it would be too short, and they couldn't make use of cheap CG.
Sorry, I wasn't intending to be rude, like I said, I meant no offense. Also, much like sarcasm, a rhetorical question is hard to indicate through text, so it was my mistake, sorry.
wow, that was low. Gee you must feel so cool dissing people not of your skin color. Hmm.. you are no better than anyone else saying things like that. you sicken me. Oh & try to make a comeback; just know, I'll me laughing!
Are you stupid? She's white in the comics. It's like making Blade a white guy, or making Bruce Wayne black. It's got nothing to do with racism dumbass.
The first 40 minutes were painful to watch. The rest of the movie had some good laughs. I have to laught too at the way most of the other comments talk as if 1994 was nearly the silent era.
"well it was made in 1994, so like I'm suprised its even in color." "you know, right?"
Just because the new FF movies were often cheesy, I really don't know why so many people are willing to praise this schlock-fest. Yeah, it's fun, but it's also REALLY over-the-top and plot-free. While Doom's costume is acurate to the one in the comic, the hammy villian laughs and hand gestures are laughable. But it put a smile on my face tonight. Thanks for the post!
So, Ben can change back. But only once, during what seems like a stimulus enduced by Alicia. Even though the same stimulus basically happens again, with no effect. Crappy writing.
my god, that waving hand at the end just showed they didn't even make an attempt. I bet the people that made this are glad youtube is blurryish and people cant read their names in the credits.
really think hard about this movie...to anyone who likes this movie cuz it so close to the comics wtf....trying to mesh two mediums is a tricky thing to do...and the 05 does that better plus i know it maybe close to the original but times change and so do comics....just like you dont see iron fighting out of date comi villians...hope they dont make cap do that...i didnt like the new one much but it had a better origin story than this lump of crap
there was never an attempt to release this movie.and for the record Dr. dooms costume honestly looked better than the newer movies...b/c it was the comic costume not some bullshit costume made for the movie to attract people like you.
I know that reed is ment to be older then sue. But did any one else find she looked about 12 at the start of the movie and he already looked early 30's?
I expected this to be a lot worse than it was, considering it was never mean't for release and having a low budget. For me the Thing looked way better than the recent one and the costumes just like the comic, what is odd though is making a movie with no intention of releasing it, I know it was just to keep the rights but has this ever happened before or since? seem's to be such a waste of everyone's time and effort.
Human Torch "deflecting" a laser scene reminds me of Superman (1941) cartoon. The Mad Scientist episode.

Does Doom ever use his power in this movie??
Neofire60 2 years ago 2
@Neofire60 Doctor Doom doesn't have powers, that came out of a scriptwriter's ass for the new movie.

We interviewed the cast for SCARLET STREET and the cast was indeed quite enthused. I have to admit to enjoying this version. Considering how little money they truly had (1 /150th of what was spent on the 2004 version ),the actors and all are quite good. I truly wish this version could get a legit release- and OH what a commentary track it would have!
nitesho 2 years ago 5
imo this 1994 version was not to bad. some cheesy parts but it sure as hell better than 2004 F4 ben grim way better than 2004 ben grim. dr.doom looks right from comic's
meeboot 2 years ago
Are you completely insane? No one is going to claim the 2004 release was a staple of modern cinamatography (sp), but... there was nothing in this movie that was done better. Maybe truer to the OC plot while simultaneously mutilating the genre....

@VibrancySF I think this Doom is way cooler.

gibadoo 2 years ago
Honestly this could have been so much worse... I kinda liked it as a matter of fact... I agree with Chappy it sucks the lead actor was so into it for it to never be released. I heard the film makers at one point knew it was never going to come out but never told the cast that and thats just wrong lol
edman4327 2 years ago
I think the best things about this film are The Thing...who looks and acts a lot more convincing than the new thing, and also Dr Doom. Doom really looks the part. It was fun enough, trashy good fun...I've seen a lot worse...
drseanelius 2 years ago
I can live with the bad CG effects, but I just don't think Victor von Doom would ever say: "Help me! We were friends once."
gustafapan 2 years ago
Ok yes as much as this film had its bad points like the moleman, the music, and things that just didn't make sense like the diamond wtf and ben changing back to human and then changing back the thing I have say it was not that bad of a film. It was ok. So everyone quit bashing it and just sit back and enjoy. This film was entertaining and quit bashing the new films as well. I mean in my opinion I though the new films were great. I think there the best superhero movies compared to others

at 1:02 you see the mat raise up when the doom troopers fall.
If this was made in the 60's or early 70's this would be a sci fi classic. for a movie with a budget of a million it wasn't bad.

Why does Thing remind me of the toxic avenger?!?

this whole movie made me think TROMA.... as did crank2......
chappy422 2 years ago
This is BARELY worse than the recent big budget 'efforts.'
sierota77 2 years ago
I gotta admit for a movie back in the 90's it wasn't TOO bad, but damn the mole man parts made me want to stab myself with a screw driver. Couldn't they find a better way to do that or something else to put in there?
Not the worst movie though seen worse. Hell anyone seen the Nick Fury movie with David hassolhoff in it XD worst movie ever.
I do have to say that retarded looking freak arm sticking out of the sunroof at the end way way overdoing it though

i would doubt that you had it on dvd........... don't try to tell me you got it on blu ray. perhaps laser disc
chappy422 2 years ago
No way player. I had that and Generation X on vhs. Talk about good times
mrbradley882 2 years ago
my point was that you don't need to point out having Nick Fury on VHS. I'm pretty sure that is the only format it can be found on. perhaps beta
chappy422 2 years ago
I wish...after the release of Iron Man on dvd several months later they put out Hasselhoff's Fury movie it was @ Target. Marvel...sorry Disney has lost their f*cking mind $14.99 my a**
mrbradley882 2 years ago
Wow, the whole human torch part was the weakest aspect of the film but I guess I can forgive it because it was a very low budget project.
TheSciFiCat 2 years ago
At least Doctor Doom looked cool. And I guess his voice was supposed to sound like Christopher Lee which was a nice touch.
MattChrisF 2 years ago 2
They did an amirable job with the budget , its heart is in the right place and it is faithful to the comic unlike the new one
chopperbana 2 years ago
i read an old article in an issue of WIZARD from 1993 discussing the "upcoming" fantastic four film. it was really quite sad. the lead actor seemed VERY fired up about this franchise. he mentioned not being contracted for a sequel but being extremely enthusiastic for a sequel to happen... very sad.
IALTO
chappy422 2 years ago 2
@ chopperbana faithful to the comic? LOL. thats the least of what it is. like ben changing back and forth into a rock?
naamhier 2 years ago
I like it because its a 90's marvel movie, it wasn't really meant to be serious! It's a lot better than the 70's Spider-Man tv show, a lot better than the 70's Cpt. America & Doctor Strange movies....My only real complaint is Doom always waving his hands around like a WWE Diva making a grand entrance.
shannonodinson 2 years ago 4
WWE Diva good one

LouisianaKid08 2 years ago
Oh, yeah, and the Torch can't fly at the speed of light, and the cheap animation (besides knocking off Fleischer's Superman vs. the electrothanasia ray) has the Torch with arms about half the length they should be. A truly bad film.
spideyhaswebshooters 2 years ago
I know it's a Roger Corman cheapie but this movie is truly awful by any standard. The Thing suit is so poorly designed it looks like a combination of an Alien and kibbles and bits dog food. The other four's costumes are poorly made, too, with jaggedly cut and sewn parts (why the John Byrne blue and white and not the Jack Kirby blue and black?) Dr. Doom overacts even worse than Julian Glover does in the newer movies. Everyone who criticized Tim Story's movie should have been forced to watch this.
spideyhaswebshooters 2 years ago 3
Anyone care to tell me why he didn't just blow up the laser EMITTER rather than trying to race a beam of light to NYC?
Capng123 2 years ago 7
I love how, in your other comment, you carefully explain why a B movie works, but in this one, you seem to forget that this is a B movie. No offense meant, I just thought it odd.
The answer is simple enough though, when you think about it that way. Racing the beam itself is more exciting, and makes for a better climax, if Ben had smashed the emitter (assuming it wasnt one of those pesky lasers that explode when you hit it) it would be too short, and they couldn't make use of cheap CG.
Nanorobotic 2 years ago
In my own defense, the question was largely rhetorical...
Capng123 2 years ago
Sorry, I wasn't intending to be rude, like I said, I meant no offense. Also, much like sarcasm, a rhetorical question is hard to indicate through text, so it was my mistake, sorry.

The first 40 minutes were painful to watch. The rest of the movie had some good laughs. I have to laught too at the way most of the other comments talk as if 1994 was nearly the silent era.
"well it was made in 1994, so like I'm suprised its even in color." "you know, right?"

Beautifully cheesy! But Marvel needs to get off their high horse and release this on DVD as a two pack with the 90's Captain America movie!
syndark6 3 years ago 4
Just because the new FF movies were often cheesy, I really don't know why so many people are willing to praise this schlock-fest. Yeah, it's fun, but it's also REALLY over-the-top and plot-free. While Doom's costume is acurate to the one in the comic, the hammy villian laughs and hand gestures are laughable. But it put a smile on my face tonight. Thanks for the post!
theshire36 3 years ago 2

If Tim Story was to see this movie and at least read the original comics instead of the Ultimate one, the 2005 movie would have been better.

kylechu1170 3 years ago
I expected this to be a lot worse than it was, considering it was never mean't for release and having a low budget. For me the Thing looked way better than the recent one and the costumes just like the comic, what is odd though is making a movie with no intention of releasing it, I know it was just to keep the rights but has this ever happened before or since? seem's to be such a waste of everyone's time and effort.
