Collins claimed he’s a “drummer who sings a bit”. xDD no i can't agree with that. The man has released 8 studio solo albums and despite the small number sold more than 150 million copies of them. And yet include another 100 mill plus when he was a leading vocalist and member of Genesis. xD If that's a drummer who 'sings a BIT' well, let us pray that ALL drummers in this world could sing a bit of that too;) Collins is pure magic. He has done some of the most beautiful and perfect songs ever.

collins on drums. main reason for attending the show was to watch him play drums for an entire show!! same as when he played on obert plant's solo tour.
crapton played great stuff with the Yardbirds, John Mayall, Cream, Blind Faith and then played Layla. But even on that song Dwayne played the better guitar. Since then drugs, drink and soppy ballads have meant that most of his post 74 output has been crap. Occasional stabs at playing his original love the Blues have produced some acceptable material. Over produced, over hyped and over coked crapton can only get the sympathy vote for lasting so long to be honest.
If you've never seen Clapton live... Go!!! Videos do not do Clapton live justice. He is simply amazing and his guitar playing seems to get better year after year. And yes, Phil is the man. He is one of the most underrated drummers.
Yes I mean that by main stream folks who do not know Phil's bio. Not among other musicians. If you've seen Phil Live, If you know who Brand-X is If you know who played drums on Robert Plant's first solo album after Bonham's death, you know. The Genesis Show in 2007 a Collins Era Genesis fan and friend actually said to me "Well Phil is not exactly known for his drumming." so yes I say underrated. Phil is phenomenal.I know it, you know it. To others he is the guy who sings "In the Air Tonight
Phil is one of the most underrated drummers of our generation. Brand-X was very progressive. His drumming with Genesis, specifically their early material with Gabriel was incredible. Only die-hard Genesis fans know just how difficult that music was to play to. His style is so tasteful. The singing, songwriting, and piano were used later on. He takes such a beating over going soft with the pop with late Genesis and solo. In fairness, that transition isn't rare nor does it define a career.
Phil was known first as a drummer. That's how he came into the spotlight. Only later did his vocals and songwriting talents come into the spotlight. Of course, fans know that he is a phenomenal drummer. No exaggeration. Kudos to whoever said Clapton can only be truly appreciated live in concert. That's another subject by itself.
@ThePrimeDirective TALENTS LIKE THESE COME AROUND SO SELDOM, THANK GOD FOR THE ERA OF MUSIC I GREW UP WITH, TODAY'S MUSIC IS MOSTLY AS THE BRITISH WOULD CALL, "RUBBISH"
I'm only 19 but I agree, mostly all I listen to is late 60's and 70's music, occasionally liking a song from the 80's, 90's or today but it's MUCH more seldom now days and still really just doesn't compare to this time of music..
@sirbikesalot growing up in sixties influenced my singing and playing so much, got to hear all the great British groups as well as the old blues masters such as Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and others that so greatly influenced the British invasion, and to this day i honor them in songs I do with my band
Eric is still a great guitar player...No question about that....but I believe he was at his prime throughout the 80s in his playing, His songs seemed to be powerful and solid....now that he has gotten older, the songs have changed, however still enjoyable.
Whahahaaa it's really hard to believe that Phil Collins actually had hair on his head:P !! Eric Clapton and Phil Collins are two of my absolute favorites!
Some of the more inspired and fresh feeling drumming I have seen from Phil. So much of what you see is so rehearsed with him these days. This is rehearsed but it is loose with the "off the cuff" bits complimenting the guitar. Clapton and Collins play very well off each other. It is nice to see when Collins take some more chances in his playing. I saw this tour. LOVE IT!!!!
Great performance! Bob Marley would be proud if he could hear it. Eric is great as always and Phil does a great work on the drums. All they are great musicians. But i've a question about the keyboardist:
i do agree the crossroad version is great, and actually i do think that it s better than bob, the man is just too classy for everyone hi got too much musical knowledge
I must admit that this is not a great version, the 1985 behind the sun tour version was a lot better, and Eric's version on the crossroads DVD from a few years ago is amazing, his playing now is in another league to here!
I saw your page and Opeth was one of the bands you had the most videos of and the comment on Clapton's timed playing you displayed was stupid to say. Both versions are great!
Bob Marley created it, superb version!
Clapton remade it, superb version.
After it, marley wasn't happy about it, because clapton gave the credits to himself.
Clapton said sorry, it all was good again.
So now you know the fucking story, they both are happy about it now.
End.
Great song!
