It was a treat to see your film at the St. George Theater on Staten Island tonight. It was quite suspenseful. The title is a great metaphor for the film. Now I'm curious to experience driving through the desert myself!
Hey, good job! You have a great cast of characters and that fella Dan VanHart is a good choice as a lead ;) Out of simple curiosity, did ya'll use a shoulder rig? I like the raw grittiness of the film as well! Well done!
After seeing the trailer for Desert Rain, I know I just have to go and see this movie!! Awesome acting, especially by Daniel Van Hart!!!! Let me know when this comes out in the theaters.
A nasty comment would be, "This video sucks." I made no such comment. I critiqued the lighting, which is poor by ANY standard. Otherwise the production is a good one; good acting and directing for sure. For the record, this is a video, NOT a film. The moniker is based on the medium used, which, in this case, is video tape.
Who is your DP? Who is your Gaffer? Who is your Best Boy Electric? Is there even 1 Set Lighting Technician on the set? Are you seriously going to tell me you back-lit your talent? That's photography 101! Even the outdoor scenes are back-lit. Every scene is dark. Did you guys not have a mirror or a bounce or a flashlight or a candle or some light source other than ambient light??? Kudos to the actors - good job. Production is horrible.
That's the aesthetic we tried to achieve. All intentional. It's meant to look dirty and underlit, real and natural. Movie lights are for Hollywood. G&E crews are for those who choose to employ such equipment. This is the acoustic version of feature filmmaking. By any means necessary. Try and think outside that box you live in and don't be a hater. And thanks for watching! :)))))
Then I stand corrected and submit my apologies. I don't necessarily agree with underlighting to create texture, but I'm open-minded enough to see your point. If that is what you were shooting for, then I concede that the movie looks as you intended. I have never seen anyone NOT use lights to create texture, but that's probably because I work in feature films. I will try to think outside the box and view the movie with new eyes. Thank you for intelligent clarification...very refreshing.
and I'm sure you didn't start out in feature films, you worked up from somewhere. Understandable how somewhere between then and now you seem to have lost some appreciation for the art and message.
