What do I mean by the word 'mean'? What do I mean by the word 'word'? What do I mean by 'what do I mean'? What do I mean by 'do' and what do I do by 'mean'? And what do I do by do by do and what do I mean by wasting your time like this? Good night.
The send-up of breathless, urgent TV news reminds me of The Day Today with Chris Morris - except the Pythons got there decades earlier of course. Thanks for putting this up :-)
I think what was so great about Python was that they had no limits. None. Irrational? "Dirty"? Crazy? Whatever. That's why their stuff works so well.
Some of the pleasure I derive from Python is the way they connect ideas that appear to be totally dissimilar, juxtapose those ideas onto run-of-the-mill situations and then go to maximum absurdity, yet it's all still truthful about humanity. Because humans *are* absurd.
But I'll stop before it gets all Henri Bergson up in here.
I think that appreciation of Monty Python really has nothing to do with gender. It has to do with how willing you are to engage in humour so intelligent that most people wouldn't be able to think it up themselves. And I also appreciated the comment about rationality being an overrated virtue.
I think Stoneresp makes a fair point. Most girls under 30 won't find this funny. However, quite a large majority (including me) find it absolutely frikkin' hilarious! How a man can talk that fast without mucking up is beyond me!
Believe it or not, all the girls in my school LOVED Monty Python including me and the boys weren't really that into it. In one class we got to watch all the Monty Python movies and nothing ever, ever will top Monty Python!
lol sheer brilliant genius, but try showing any monty python clip to a girl below the age of 30 and she will be questioning your sanity for finding anything monty funny? i just dont get it, is it male humour? anyway i love all thier skits, especially the funny policeman one omfg!
Well I'm a girl of 20 and I'm mad of Python! In fact I AM stark raving mad - Mental sanity seems to be an overrated virtue these days.
Is Python male humour? Good question... Maybe females find it harder to let go and lose their grip on rationality. (but I also know many boys insensible to MP)
Oh I'll never get enough of Spectrum. It actually does make sense, it asks the right questions. Really. Meaning is hopeless - Beckett, in another vein.
a lot of people don't find this funny, but a lot of people do, but it has nothing to do with age or gender, i'm 23 and i've been i love with python since i was 16, it's just a matter of what you find funny
"Tonight's Spectrum examines the whole question of frothing and falling, coughing and calling, screaming and balling, walling and stalling, gauling and mauling, balling and halling, trolling and squealing and zolling. Is there a word "zolling" if there is, what does in mean. If there isn't what does it. Perhaps both, maybe neither.
Wow. That is my goal in life, to learn that entire thing . . . and use it for an audition!!! That would completely blow them away . . . if I could ever do it like Mikiepoo does it . . . did I mention I'm completely obsessed with Michael Palin? My friends and I have nicknames for all of them, actually. They get . . . pretty interesting
"Do we have anything to say?" "No" "No" "Bloody Fairy" "Nein -- No" "No" "No... no... no.. n-" "What do we mean by no, what do we mean yes, what do we mean no, no no" *16 TONS FALLS FROM AIR*
"Where do we start, what do you say, where do we come, where do we go, what do we eat what do we drink, what do we--" "Speaking of Conservative Candidates, I just drone on and on and on never letting anyone get a word in edgewise 'til I start foaming at the mouth and falling over backwards, ohh..."
"this colum represents 23% of the population, this colum represents 28% of the population, and this colum represents 43% of the population." "telling figures indeed" LOL xD
I love the episode this is from. It's all good, but I think my favorite part is the "Speaking as the Conservative candidate, I simply droan on and on and on..." I think of that whenever I can't come up with something useful to say. :D

I've read an interview where Michael says he had fever and a cold so had difficulties to concentrate on the fast text - but he did a great job.
*why is it always a 16 ton?*
Myrmelie 2 years ago 9
In 1969, everyone in the English speaking world probably knew this American country song:
"You load 16 tons, and what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
Saint Peter, don't you call me, 'cause I can't go;
I owe my soul to the company store... "
So it's a joke.
