  • There's something inherently funny about a sharp-suited surrealist wandering in wild places.

  • Music at 7.13? What motion picture have I heard this in?

  • Jonathan Meades is usually fantastic, but he's a bit of a duck out of water on the Isle of Lewis. He understands Calvinism, but hasn't a clue about Gaelic culture, nor is he interested in finding anything out about it, other than to dismiss it as a 'contemporary revival'. This is a quintessentially and characteristically English posture toward the periphery of the British isles.

I suspect many English viewers love it because his verbose evocations of genii loci match English preconceptions.

  • why are the eagles eyes backed out

    Why not?

  • If they didn't, then the gamekeepers would know who they are.

  • thanks

  • Magnificent stuff...great episode from a superb series. Get it on terrestrial TV, BBC!

  • Perhaps the most enjoyable episode of any tv show I've ever seen. Beautiful words and photography.

Can anyone tell me the music from about 9:30?

  • Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata Mvt. 2

There's some great performances of it on youtube.

  • Much obliged, kernal2006. I wonder what your name means?

  • He relishes any opportunity to deliver his sumptuously verbose opprobrium and scorn against the religious among us. Well I for one revel in my 'hallucinatory irreason'.

  • "hallucinatory irreason that is dignified by the name of faith"

    Splendid!
