  • I went here a couple of days ago I'm 13 and it was awsome! It was cool coz we had 2 barrels either side of us so we couldnt move else we would be likely flattened.

  • it would need to be good to match the cheese rolling

  • @icantstop. I heard about the horredously retarded idiot who decided it would be entertaining to chuck an aerosol into the barrel, causing it to explode inot ppls faces and burn some so bad they will be scarred for life. I also heard he was a student...

This is the kind of stunt which WILL get it barred after all these years, and any SU card holders should be stopped from crossing the Otter.

The majority of folk who do go are relaxed, and i dont think its a coincidence that its mushy season :P

  • @jaseydalts I'd quite like to go and see this one year, it sounds like a really great way to celebrate bonfire night.

I reckon the vast majority of students are perfectly normal people but a few morons ruin it for everyone else.

  • lol i remember

  • Watching this makes me proud to be an Englishman born and bread!!! Thanks for posting

  • i live in ottery and it is great but also mental at the same time.

  • mentalists!

  • i live in ottery 2 and apparently its raining the year

  • i live in ottery and yh it is a gd tradition!

  • Not a bad year: only eight fatalities.

  • lmao "I almost spilt my bloody beer!" - "I spilt my beer!!!"

  • That is totally demented, and makes me proud to be British. Why hasn't it been banned yet? Hasn't anyone done a risk analysis for Health and Safety and event insurance purposes? "We plan to drink heavily, and run up and down an overcrowded town square in the dark, carrying barrels belching flame which fall apart unpredictably. Then we drink some more and go and sacrifice in the Sacred Grove .... ooops, what a giveaway, it's a Christian winter festival, honest ...."

    I love it!

  • the students are a pain in the arse generally. They are on a mission to try and touch each barrel, which is frankly dangerous for the barrellers. 20 18 year old toffy nosed idiots, who have had 1/2 a glass of cider and are drunk, all trying to hit the barrel at the same time can, and has, unbalanced the guy carrying the barrel sufficiently that he ends up face down with the barrel slamming his face into the deck.

  • @jaseydalts I went this year (and although not a student myself, am of such age) and can honestly say that despite some idiots (like the aerosol twat), the students were very supportive and made the night a light hearted and fun event, subduing the realisation that i was under constant threat of fiery death. Besides, it is an event that anyone with an adrenaline addiction should take part in and was the single most fucking mental night of my life!!!

  • Hahahahaha, so true to form!! I had the BEST time ever last night - after diving out of the way, having my glasses and camera crushed by a flaming barrel from hell but getting them back unsmashed and unbroken at all!! Loved every INSANE minute of it!

  • Was my first Ottery tonight, it was amazing (and very scary!) =D

  • Good news guys: The tar barrels are going ahead as usual!!! The bonfire is dryed out and the roads are clear... all set for a fantastic bonfire night!!!

  • im gutted im gonna miss it again (if its on), I was planning on coming home from China to see it, but my wife didnt get a visa in time.

Its usually way better when there's been a lot of rain, as the farmers dont rent their fields out as car parks, so the firkin Exeter U students dont pile into Ottery

  • There's nothing wrong with most of us students! =P Besides, most students use coaches not cars to get there...

  • SOME 1 TELL ME . . . IS IT ON THIS YEAR

  • it never stops, defo on this year, see you there!

  • Its only a very very small "might". it's on wednesday so by that time all or most of the hail and muck will be cleared. They probably decide on wednesday morning. Besides the flood water was half-way up the bonfire this morning, but by the evening it was nowhere near it. At that rate the barrels will almost definitely be on. Unless we get another massive storm!!...

  • they might not do them this year because Ottery was hit with a massive hailstorm that flooded the roads.

  • that would be a shame, when do they decide?

  • brilliant video, great music, captures the whole evening perfectly. A scary, scary night - spilling yr beer is worse than getting burned - u have to q for hours for another one!

  • my 7th year :)

  • haha! ACE! i went to see this whilst i was a college in tiverton.

    happy days!

  • made me cry with such fond memories of living in Ottery

  • I love how he doesn't mind somone running at him with a burning barrel of tar but he is really annoyed that he spilt some beer :P
