  • OMG I ca relate to this as I left my mum and dad & inlaws and could barely breathe for the sadness I felt, as I also took their grandaughter with me...................I cried all the way here, and have adopted this country as my own but still regret depriving my daughter of her family....................

  • That man is a national treasure, for Scotland and Australia both.

  • Good video. Eric Bogle wrote some of the best lyrics ever in the world of folk music.

  • Thanks for the post, lot of memories

  • what an honor it is to live during Eric B's time

  • beautiful song, I thought it was a romantic love song all these years.

  • @sherp2u1 It IS a romantic love song. He loved his mother so much that he wrote this lovely ballad about leaving home (Scotland) probably never to return! (By the way, Did he ever return?)

  • @MultiGeraghty yes, Eric did regular concert tours of England and Scotland up until a year or so back, when he announced that he was getting a bit too old to be travelling all that way. He now only tours within Australia and New Zealand.

  • right on dude. beautiful

  • Legend!

  • I am very pleased to say I know Eric Bogle personally :) He is an amazing guy and I like love him to pieces. He is my dads best friends brother in law and I really do love him to pieces xx Amazing singer too

Yes my brother is also a left handed player & has played in support of Eric Bogle at Marymass Folk Festival-Irvine Scotland.

  • A very talented performer. Thank you Eric.

  • eric wrote some truly great songs in his day

  • Hello, people ! does anyone have any recordings of Eric Bogle? I saw him in Saddleworth, and since then never had a chance to get out to festivals... Now he's stopped touring, so the only way to see him would be to go to Adelaide... Could anyone share some mp3s with me? I bought one album, but that's all I can afford now...

  • Regrets ; avoid them!

    Sad stuff mate

  • Saw Eric in action at The Lemon Tree here in Aberdeen. Brilliant just doesn't seem to cover it! What a **star** and as you say, such a nice person. I am behind you there, sifakaindri52, when you say you hope Eric reconsiders touring here again. Why don't we start a petition? Eric, please don't forget us!!! Great, great performer and the songs speak for themselves.

  • Saw Eric and John at Crail but my camera only recorded 40 sec slots! Really enjoyed his second trip to Crail and hope he'll rethink his decision not to tour outside australia!

  • I went to See Eric and John in Dartford they were brilliant.bonuse for me I not only met both of them but had a long chat with Eric outside the club, pics as well.

Not only one of our greatest songwriters also a really down to earth and friendly guy I include John in this.

Thank you both for a really special evening.

Anyone gets a chance go and see them

  • Hope to catch Eric @ Warwick Folk Festival 2009 - coming up soon (Rumour has it even Chris Aronsten has journied from Byron Bay )

  • when are you going to play celtic connections again in glasgow ?

  • oh god!!! I can't listen to this without crying... I left my dear old Mum 45 year's ago to travel to a distant land...

  • my mother was called Nancy. She had to have me adopted when I was 2. She took me by train from Sheffield to Fraserburgh, Scotland. The words of the song are so poignant. They express my sorrow at our parting.. Colleen.
