Lets get it straight in New Zealand these fish are known as KINGFISH or KINGIES or YELLOWTAIL,Who gives a rats ass what you call them overseas.They are possibly one of the most powerful fighting fish you can catch for there size, not dosile at all.They can snap a game rod in half by flicking there tail.

Yellow tail kingfish grow to their biggest size here in New Zealand.The world record is 52 kg.Two fish have been caught at this weight to the exact same weight.Australia has them also,except they dont grow to such large sizes over there for some reason.Notice all the fish are of similar size.When they get larger they tend to branch off in smaller packs or become individuals.Schools of "Kingies" used to be common in Auckland but not anymore.Amberjacks are very different .Some on the outskirts NZ

Actually he is right and wrong guys it is classed as an amberjack. The kingfish (aka yellowtailed amberjack, Seriola lalandi lalandi) is a different species from the northern Amberjack (Seriola lalandi dorsalis). So it IS a kingfish but it comes from the same genus. So take your pick. But it is actually more correct to call it a Kingfish rather than an amberjack because amberjack is to broad. Like calling a truck and car vehicles. Far to broad.
