So, I think, as he explained it later with the Newspaper stunt, those edited parts may contain talks suggesting people to think this or that when they are asked to. But there is some parts the show which can't be explained that way.
Stooges are very unlikely. Derren is honest in what he's doing and is the first one to say it's all tricks. (to be continued...)
But he's also a master of deception (see The System). If he hadn't been honest with the viewers, everybody would have been mystified. But then again, The System ends up with quite a twist...
don't forget... people who order tickets pass on personal info. it can be used in "magic" tricks.

Copperfield can be boring, because he's mostly recycling tricks.
