  • Somehow Counting Crows music explains my life in great detail.

  • I grew up on this album, I'm 26 this may of 2012 I've been through alot in that amount of time I was seperated from my first two biological brothers when I was 5 then from my half brother and half sister when I was 8 to coming back reunited to then never see them again by age 12. I have been in 2 fauster homes and 4 holding institutions for children. I was also incarcarated for over 5 years. my daughter passed away at birth and I lost the love of my life forever. This song kills me over & over.

  • Beautiful song.

  • Will someone PLEASE get that man a rain coat!!!

  • Baltimore..... Ravens :)

  • Since the day it came out, the day I bought it, Its NEVER not made sense. But this song.. " You get what you pay for, but I just had no, Intention of living this way.." to this day It makes me make sure my decisions aren't just whims... just like I can't remember how many days on the street it took to get back to a house, I don't know how many times this made me realize what I WANTED and what I NEEDED

  • I need a plane ride !

  • amazing how songs can take you back to certain places.. and you have no choice but to go..

  • this song + rainy mood = EPIC!

  • He needs to "phone Carl"? He needs to "ring Cole"? Who are these people? And then he said he needs "a big glove". Hmm..

  • @EminentKnight Are you retarded??

  • @ZDub86 Are *you*?

  • Last song may Father listened to before he died. R.I.P Dad

  • im in the county will u accept my collect call funny ass shit right

  • I'm 15 years old and the Counting Crows were one of the first bands I ever listened to, some of my favorite memories are accompanied by August and Everything After playing in the background. My parents love them and I grew up with blasting "Round Here" and "Omaha" out of the car window. I love those summer nights at my neighbor's house playing Mr. Jones on the guitar and everyone's singing. Counting Crows are a great band and their music definitely soothes the soul. I'll always love them. :)

  • I heard this song for the first time when dating this girl who got me into all the music I like today. While dating her, I lost half my family, got cheated on, and left. Her birthday is in August, and now that she's gone I look at this album as maybe a means to get past all the pain from that. My life will consist of Everything after August.

  • I've always loved this song and had to listen to it because it's actually raining here :)

  • i am 13 years old and this band helps me get through life and actually gives some life lessons unlike most of todays music

  • i will never forgive you

  • I hear this and I just think about what it's like to be alone. Feeling isolated from the rest of the world. Your peers don't know who you are. You're nothing to them. They don't know you exist. You would talk to them, but you don't have anything worthwhile to say. For whatever reason, you didn't make friends as easily as they did.

You need someone to talk to. Or maybe someplace to go. Or maybe something to keep you occupied. If nothing else, something to comfort you. Even if only a little bit.

  • I am a 100 lb. white girl. And I heard this song and cried like a bitch.

  • My friend does a cover of this song all the time and I get emotional every time. Such an amazing song!!

  • I jizzed at 1:43

  • yea!

  • great lyrics !

  • Great Song! I live 50 miles east of Baltimore, so ive always assumed he was in my town when he wrote it but i dont actually know if he did or not. This song helped me get through bad times last year, its timeless

  • i attempted suicide twice...this album really helps me cope with a lot of my struggles. Adam Duritz is a great lyrcist, i dont even think he realizes the impact he's made to so many of us.

  • @mohammad5 I am sorry for your struggles. When this album came out in 1993 I was just starting High School. I had a very hard time being picked on by bullies. Every night as I laid in bed I listened to this tape in my walk-man until I cried myself to sleep. It really helped me cope with suicidal thoughts, so I can understand where you're coming from. It's been 19 years and although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. Have Hope.

  • @Batgirl1979 I wasn't really bullied by kids back in high school, but I was certainly left out by the popular kids. Also, I had a lot of family issues with abuse and neglect and was tossed into group homes for several years. This album helped me to cope with a lot of the hardships and pain in which I endured. As a now 34 year old male, this album still moves me and takes me away to a safe haven somewhere in middle America, where no one knows my name. To dream is beautiful!

  • I need all of these things! One of my favorites!

  • weird song.....

  • Its amazing how this song still gives me goosebumps after all these years and can sometimes even reduce me to tears. There is just so much emotion in this song. Thank you for a great album with so many great songs like this

  • @SandmanOz one of my favorite songs of thiers...

  • You get whatcha came for ...just had no intention of living this way!....I need a sunburn...

I'm from Canada (not that makes any difference) What would you change if you could?

Simply love this at 3am ...I guess it's time to put the top down!

  • You get whatcha came for ...just had no intention of this way!....I need a sunburn...

  • One of my favorite songs!

  • I am a 300 lb. black man. And I heard this song and cried like a bitch.

  • @MichiganIsCrap you want to lose some weight then.

  • @MichiganIsCrap I never knew Shaq was a Counting Crows fan.

  • I need a phone call !!!!

  • I am 20 years old. I have been listening to this song for literally my entire life, as far back as I can remember. My family and I drove across the country in 1996 and played the August and Everything After cassette tape at least once in every state we drove. It is July 29, 2011 and this song is still exactly as powerful as it was back then.

  • @TheAmazingAnarchist1

It's crazy how a song like this never loses that affect.

    An album like this, really.

  • @TheAmazingAnarchist1 Haha, Nice!! I think every American family has done this. I used to listen to this with my mom and brother on our way up to Maine for vacation. My mothers response to why she didn't mind listening to it - "It's the only music I can listen to of your's"

  • @TheAmazingAnarchist1 the simplicity of this Stunning song is its Abaolute Beauty..... i think when i bought this album in 97 this song stood out for me, youre words just made me cry!!!! dont ask me why but i think we just understand it the it should be understood...... :)

  • @TheAmazingAnarchist1 My family took road trips across France and Spain in the early 80's, 5 kids piled in the back of the Merc...and the Da would play CCR, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Elkie Brooks, Nancy Griffith to name but a few.....Knew all the lyrics to all their songs by the time i was 12 yrs old. I am 37yrs old and i still go back to those songs, along with the more "modern" Counting Crows. Good music has no time......

  • @TheAmazingAnarchist1 Me too., my dad introduced me to them when I was young. Always a favourite

  • Four people get too many phone calls.

  • what company owns this song, i need to know. any help would be appreciated.

  • Why dislike this song? ʘ_ಠ

  • I don't think I could survive without this album..it is like my lifeblood

  • Saw them in Baltimore last summer. It started raining. Couldn't have been any more perfect right then.

  • this is my favorite counting crows song. the lyrics do not relate to my lif in any of way. i dont even live in baltimore. but i still love it <3

  • can't believe how good this song is

  • one of the best album's i grew up with... i still go see them when i can!!

  • this song can touch so many with the large use of small word... but for me, its the fact that life hits ya hard, and sometimes ya gotta grab onto the moments that are bad, because those moments make the good ones that much better

  • i wasnt riding down the highway but in 1995 i was trying to convince my gf that this was the best she could ever hear, and we were here singing it @ 7:00 n the morning 2011 M.F.

  • My '92 Black Geo Storm....Buckingham Park all to myself....420....pouring rain outside, tears inside....playing this cassette (particularly this track) over and over and over! Over 17 years later....Geo gone, no mas 420, Park in another State....and it's still raining. LOVE OUT LOUD

  • @donniehal Beautifully said.

  • @11maebelle Thank you.

  • i am doing that dance in a couple of months

  • this song, is amazing <3

  • Umm....this is the first time hearing this song its really good, but is it really this long i mean 4:37 thats really long. please let me know :)

  • @lebanonloser1 that's not that long

  • @fetsrala sorry i didnt mean super long i just mean its longer then most songs i lishen to

  • Baltimore! love that place, almost home.

  • Amazing song! :D

  • I need a phone call, I need a raincoat, I need a big love.... and I need someone to say my name!

  • Just watched an old episode of Homicide: Life On The Street that featured this song. Good stuff.

  • This has always been my favorite Counting Crows song, and the number of times I listened to this album when it first came out was like when one of those great albums of the decade came out like Neil Young's Harvest Moon or U2's

All that you can't leave behind-- a seminal album-- that leaves you breathless, but always wanting more, again and again and again! Eternal. Like a spirit itself!

  • @kingofsmiles Yeah, man...this album kisses a broken heart :)

  • I stumbled across the lyrics to this song when I was doing my homework somehow... I decided to check the band out, so glad I did =']

  • @haiirononingyo I have loved this band since I was still doing homework and I'm 32 now! So glad they are still attracting new fans!

  • truely beautiful

  • Second favorite track on the album!

  • Beautiful beyond words.... the story, the music, voice.

  • I need a plane ride...my dream school, I've come so far to earn it, to go overseas for school and I'm held back by paper. I didn't get what I paid for. Leave it to society to oversimplify man. I'm so close to losing everything I've worked for...

    I need a plane ride....

I really, really need a plane ride...

  • AMAZING...I need a rain coat!

  • This song was playing a little over 9 years ago when my husband and I first met :) Great memories, and seriously one of the top 10 albums of all time

  • Every time I listen to this song it gains more meaning and sentiment..... (which, I listen to it a lot)

  • here again... song on repeat... i miss her, i guess that i should... still dont have the strength...

  • @jonahstory1 Boo hoo.

  • wow makes me feel so small.

I've been 50 miles west of baltimore last year.

I guess I need a phone call too. But if she's not calling what am I supposed to do.

I should probably just fuck it. Bitches they come bitches they go.

  • cont.

  • I love this song! Let me rephrase this... I love this BAND! ♥ Counting Crows ♥

  • lol some boy kept singing this song in my science class. -.-''

  • This is one of the best and in depth songs of all time, only one other song tops this, Color Blind. Both are the best songs in many years...

  • what would u change if u could?....so deep

  • I don't know about deep...I'd say it's more personal than deep. A brilliant bit of writing though either way.

  • i agree

    I need a big love

    I need a phone call

  • It's raining in Baltimore right now...lol

ich fühl mich angesprochen, von diesem text. :(

  • i feel the same way my friend....

  • this album from CC is perfect and there can be no better...

  • I rode my bike down the highway in the pouring rain in the middle of the night and I was listening to this song on my CD player.

It was a happy moment, to a sad life.

  • @Skilletbiscuits "it was a happy moment, to a sad life." has the potential to be a line in an incredible song!

  • @Skilletbiscuits I hope in the year since you posted this, things have gotten better.

    Stay brave, amigo.
