@69crued It would depend on the hourly rate of the shop. Our video shows you exactly how to replace this on your vehicle. We sell the serpentine belt tensioner on our website 1aauto.com Between the video that we provide and the cost of our replacement part, you should be able to save a great deal on money if you were to make the repair yourself. Hope this helps you out.
@rockstarcik94 If the belt is slipping on the pulleys it may cause an over heating situation. Usually if this were to happen the belt would make a screeching noise. You may want to check the simple things first such as checking the level of the anti-freeze. Hope this helps you out.
@zznapz We currently do not have a video on that particular repair. We do carry the Haynes repair manual for your vehicle on our site, that should show you how to replace your timing belt. Here's a link to them on our website. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/repairmanual/Ford/Taurus/1AMNL00063/220145/1993
Hi there, I am replacing the belt tensioner on my 1996 sable but have a question for you. In the beginning on the blue screen it says to use a T27 torx bit but when you actually take it off at 2:26 you say to use a T47 torx bit....Which one please?
In my 1997 Taurus V6-182 3.0L OHV there's a squeak coming from that general area. One tells me it's the steering pump and another says it the water pump.
Both expensive repairs. Naturally. :(
It started squeaking intermittently a short time after it sat overnight, but now it's squeaking continuously and all the time.
There is the usual "hiss" from the steering pump when I turn the wheel, but it does not affect the pitch or volume of squeak .
I like this video and it has helped alot, but I cannot get my tentioner pulley t47 bolt out. I have tried everything but no progress, any words of wisdom on hold to get it out. I do not want to fully strip it, so i stopped.
@susienc919 HI, a bad tensioner pulley wouldn't cause the starter to not engage. If the starter has gone bad you should start with repairing it. We carry the serpentine belt tensioner on our website
1aauto.com/1A/SerpentineBeltTensioner/Ford/Taurus/-/-/2003 (copy and paste into browser).
we fixed the alternator of our ford taurus 2002, and the belt is still loose. i dont understand what the problem is. please let me know what the problem with the tensioner might be
Hi, thanks for the videos, these helped immensely. The problem I'm having here is that the bolt in the tensioner appears to be stripped, so the torx wrench won't work. I figured out that a 1/4 in. allen wrench works fine, but the bolt won't give. Is it normally extremely tight? Should I spray wd40 in there? I don't know that much about cars, so I don't know if I should be spraying oil around all the pulleys. I don't even know if it'll help at all.
This video is awesome. I changed my belt tensioner last night using this guide. Unfortunately, on my 2000 Ford Ranger, the radiator fan kind of mucked things up a bit by getting in the way, but I was able to just barely squeeze in there and get the old part off. The most difficult part was removing the old tensioner. Next up, I'll be repacking the bearings in my front wheels. After that I should be up to spec for VA's safety inspection. Thanks for making this video!
Okay, the subject title says 1993 to 2006, but 45 seconds into the video, the narrator says 1996 to 2006. I have a 1995 3.0 with 60K miles that's rattling like the dickens! Hopefully this video will apply.
Thanks sooooo very much for this video. We have an '03 taurus and my husband was going nuts looking up "how to" on changing this part, sadly every website said to do it totally different than the last. He followed this and VOILA! ty ty ty We sure werent about to pay what mechanics say would take two hours labor for less than an hour. Youre awesome :)
Great lighting, hi def camera, no jitter, speed up on the boring parts, good explanation on tools and procedure needed to do the job, you are ready for hollywood!
I used the same technique along with the tools mentioned for my 1993 Mercury Sable and the job took less than 25 minutes. That was 3 weeks ago. No problems since! Thank you very much for this video!
Thank you for your video. Before I started, I watched your video and headed off to the auto store. I got what I needed, including the T47 torx and was done in a short time. You made it easy. Thank you again.
the tensioner on my mercury sable 99' t47 star bolt is stripped! :( please help with me with some advice on taking out a stripped bolt. thank you

I told someone I wanted to change the belts on my car, and they told me you had to be strong to loosen the tensioner. Any truth to that?

@honeybunch2k6 It does require a little bit of strength, but if you follow our video you should be all set.

@bigbuffbaldguy YES Type-O on our part. You need a T47 Torx bit for this vehicle. Do as I do not as I list :)

@Downyoceanhon You may want to take a look at the fan, to see if there's anything worn on it that could be causing a whirling noise.

@micalop0341 If you haven't tried to spray some penetrating oil on the bolt. You could try that to see if that helps to free it up for you.
1aauto 3 months ago
@1aauto Do you think the bolt might turn in the opposite direction? I was told to try that. What do you think?
micalop0341 3 months ago
@micalop0341 It should turn in the same direction as shown in the video.

The idler pulley bolt requires an 18mm wrench rather
than the 15mm wrench used on the tensioner pulley.
2meaux 1 year ago
@2meaux Sizes of bolts can vary from year to year and even car to car.
1aauto 1 year ago
So do you need a T27 Torx or a T47? I think you mention both.
mtlh05 1 year ago
@mtlh05 T27, My mistake there, unfortunately I don't have the car to check. T47 looks right as far as the size I can see on the video.
