  • Got here after listening to Dusty, Tina, and Sarah Connor singing this. Still love Dusty and Tina but Joan turns it up a notch from just singing it into a production... Helluva voice.

  • man her voice is sexy

  • Super klimacik wykonu!!

  • OWWW!!!!

  • yeaaaaaaaah sista

  • This woman could sing anything!

  • This is a find. Thank you for posting this great version of a classic.

A true voice in the age of fixing of everything. This lady can sing.

  • what a singer

  • THIS IS MY LADY GAGA COMMENT. THERE ARE MANY LADY GAGA COMMENTS LIKE IT, BUT THIS ONE IS MINE. WITHOUT ME, MY LADY GAGA COMMENT IS NOTHING; WITHOUT MY LADY GAGA COMMENT I AM NOTHING...

  • @masercot now that's actually pretty funny

  • She sounds really like Lady Gaga omg :S

  • Great Piano riff! Joan is wonderful. I'm hoping to see her in Chicago late Sept!

  • DAMN! YOU GO MISS JOAN! DAMN!

  • This gal can belt out the tunes ,so what's with all the bullshit attitudes. Dummy up!

  • It's Joan Osbourne. Why all the pics of Janis Joplin? Retarded.

  • @GoMikey89 Agreed, but if he followed through and showed pictures of all the people who sang it. That would have been cool.

  • speechless!

  • This words of this song portray a bashful girl overcome by her feelings. Why is Joan singing with an attitude? While it is a great "performance" - her confident and loud tone makes absolutely no sense with the lyrics. The original Dusty Springfield version was done so well you could understand the meaning if you didn't speak English.... if I heard this song without knowing English I would think Joan just kicked the ass of a Leapord and is returning with the head. Horrible, absolutely horrible.

  • @AlanP587 What the hell is a 'leapord'? Mind you, that makes more sense than the rest of your comment.

  • I just loved all the old funky pitures of the late Janis Joplin and her voice was also a dead riger for Janis J. Bravo and well done!!!!!

  • best rendition of this song I've ever heard!

  • one of the best female recording artists of all time, hand down there is no competition on this level in todays music. great song, great voice, just awesome

    .

  • Is she singing the intro? If so, nasal as all hell.

  • just flat out great

  • 19 tokio hotel fans were on this page...

  • Great video, great tribute and what a voice .... WOW! Thanks

  • wow is there any where you can watch her sing this live ?

  • that has to be the wrong date. it's in the future.

  • i love her she is truely AMAZING...IF U LIKE this song u will love "if god was one of us" crazy great <3

  • Her voice is amazing. A proper female vocalist, not one of the dime a dozen x factor jokes.

  • @malicant123 so concrete and mature vocal on this performance! Great!

  • Back-up band's hot, as is the delectable Ms Osbourne ....

  • Joan is brilliant, wonderful voice and such a charismatic artis! she deserves more press and compliments than crazy gaga and so on...

  • @197174ful in this case I disagree, both Gaga and Joan deserve credit for singing ability. I've listened to them both live.

  • Holy Crap. Wow

  • this is bad azz!!!!.........love it

  • I love the way she does this song......No dis-

repect to Dusty!!!! Great Song with soul!

  • I love the way she does this song......No disrepect to Dusty!!!! Great Song with soul!

  • I don't know this girl, but I can't help but hear the voice of poor Janis' voice is still alive in hear. Thank you!

  • Ah, all i can think is pulp fiction.

  • @austinbear--she wasn't born until 1962 dude

  • piano terrriffic

  • Few of the female artists can belt out a tune like Joan.

  • Guys, get straight--Janis Joplin is the great singer who is dead, and she covered this song. THIS VERSION is being sung by Joan Osborne, and she is very much alive. JANIS died when Joan was probably a little girl or not even born!!!

  • Joan Osbourne was the greatest white motown singer ever. I would have sold my first born to see her live.

  • @barkingspider403 Very very few female artists can sing like this lady. Joan is one of my favorite female artists and I am a major music critic.

  • @onemisguidedrose

    Mine too...

I'm not schooled in music whatsoever, but I agree, Joan was blessed with multiple vocal capacities, one of which rings with the soft side of testosterone. She could sing me to sleep, remain in my REM, and wake me up in song. Her version of "Ill Be Around" is absolutely the greatest - second to none!!!

  • she sounds a lot like Janis Joplin in this song

  • @sully6632 I love the way she does Otis Redding's "These Arms Of Mine." It will make you cry. You should hear her singing backup with Edwin McCain on Otis's "I Got Dreams To Remember." I can see why Edwin asked her to sing with him.

  • Joan Osborne made the early 70s ROCK!!!

  • @austinbear66 - When she was what, 10 years old? Yeah, I agree though, she makes the early 70's rock in the 90's and 2000's though...

  • i just have to say this woman exhibits the characteristics i would like to exhibit in life. in the pics she seems to be enjoying herself and life itself. i view life as a limited experience we all get to enjoy for however long is predetermined n we should live it to the fullest. hopefully i am doing that n will be remembered for that now n in the hereafter lol or i am just drunk n wishing upon a star lol

  • sometimes her voice reminds me of sandpaper, in a really really good way.

  • @SarahRachel59 That's a Great Image Rachel ... I'm a Carpenter by Trade, and I know that Sandpaper in the hands of a True Craftsperson can do ASTONISHING Things ...

  • Wowwww. Wish I had seen that one in person.

  • yes...yes,,,all i can say is...yes

  • Joan singing the phone book in b-flat would be better than 97percent of the music on the radio, on any station.

  • @flyoverangel

    Well said...

    (damn she's good!)

  • @flyoverangel Amen

  • @flyoverangel never mind B-flat -.....just flat would do .

  • @flyoverangel Best comment ever!

  • @flyoverangel oh ohow right u are check her out in the DVD _motown standing in the shadows !!!!!

  • @flyoverangel amen

  • @flyoverangel 99%

  • @flyoverangel hear hear.

    take care

  • This was Dusty Springfield's song--- period--had nothing to do with Janis Joplin---2 TOTALLY different singers and styles--I dont get this "tribute"-----Dusty was as smooth as Janis was rough--2 opposite ends of the spectrum---it would be like doing a tribute for say the Bee Gees and AC DC in the same video------but whatever--just my opinion--nice rendition by Joan O.

  • wish I could have seen some video I actually did this song in Acapella

comment, rate and sub :) plz check it out, thx!!

  • Dusty may have given the world this song, and not to take anything away from her. She was a classy lady with a great voice. But I gotta say, Joan's version of this classic hit is so damn powerful. She rocks the hell out of this thing. This may very well be my favorite version yet. Love it Joan. This does in fact need to come out as a single. Put it on an album, get this damn tune out on the radio again.

  • ooh rah again

  • I allways thought janis joplin sang this but i cant find any versions of her singing it on youtube so im gunna feel like a huge douche bag if she doesnt.... can someone let me know if she does

  • @matthewrbolton "always thought janis joplin sang this... can someone let me know"

I'm no expert, but I've been a Janis fan 4 a long time, & I've never heard any recording of her doing it. Every single file that ppl post saying it's her turns out 2 b someone else, mislabeled. Doesn't prove she never performed it (u can't prove a negative). But the odds r against it.

Don't feel bad; lotsa ppl blv it.

It's prob 1 of those web goofs that someone once made, & once it's out there, never dies.

  • @smartalek180 Written by Dusty Springfield, was performed by Janis and Joan and a slew of other artists. But yeah, unless you buy the album with Janis Joplin singing it, you'll find it hard to figure out who is actually singing the version you may have downloaded lol.

  • Wait a minute - Is this Joan Osborne or Janis Joplin?

  • @Heffey22547 It's Joan Osborne. While it's possible Janis sang this at a concert or something, it is not on any of her albums. this is from Joan Osborne's Early Recordings album.

  • this girl can sing

  • "being good isn't always easy."

hey, being good is way, way overrated. go joan!

  • Why all the Janis pics?

  • @swingthing ...'cause it's a tribute!

  • diese stimme habe ich wohl nicht neu entdeckt, ....zumindest für mich^^

  • Comment removed

  • She's absolutely great!

  • WOW! This woman has SOUL!!! She can sing clear, clean and sweet; she can sing raunchy, dirty and ballsy - all in the same song, and carry it off perfectly! WOW again!

  • This is by far the absolute best version of this tune out there.

  • One of the BEST versions of this classic song! Love it! :) :) :)

  • this chick is soooooo wicked

  • ur doin to many pitch changes settle ur pitch down and ud be good be simple

  • dam what a woman

  • respect!

  • I would put Joan in the same category as JJ, Dusty, Aretha and many other greats. Joanie is the real deal, heart to heart, undeniably makes a connection with you that cannot be denied. She's a today legend we can enjoy if you have ears on the side of your head.

  • this girl can sing anything and make it sound great, she sings her ass off.

  • I see as usual we have alot of critics out there as usual who can't sing, play an instrument or anything else yet sit on the sideline with their ignorant judgemental ideas. Listen to songs that Joan does. Her version are just that her version. She's not trying to sing like Dusty. That is the problem with this new music out now. Their is no individuality with it. So unless you have played behind an artist or you are in that world STFU

  • why the Janis Joplin pictures ?????????

  • why the Janos Joplin pictures ?????????

  • Wow! My 90's belle rocked the hell outta this song! She's still got that soul!

  • Yeah, she's definitely got soul in her voice unlike so many other artists these days I hear in the charts. This is what I call REAL music, simply because it has real feeling. The rest of the music I normally hear aint really music, it's just noise.

  • please please please dont compare to janis joplin , joan is fantastic, janis was a genius !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • she reminds me of Janice Joplin

  • Her voice makes me cum.

  • With all due respect, while Joan O may be able to wail, she does kind of miss the melody of this song. Respectfully, she can not hold a canlde to the soulful, almost understated manner Dusty did this song.

  • This is the best version of the songgg!

  • She does justice to Dusty and the Song. That's all that matters.

  • Nice, but she missed melody... somewhere

  • Damn that girl can sing!!!

  • que voz horrivellll

  • @Hoopermazing can you do better? she sounds amazing!

  • If you love this song please search this caption..

'Son of a preacher man - Dusty Springfield (cover by Stephanie Snook)'

its a cover i did recently and would love some feedback - THANKYOU x

  • Great Joan! Try to see 'Standing in the shadow of Motown"...

  • as an old cocker, joplin , dusty fan , this broad wails, she is wicked

  • Just recently turned onto Joan Osborne's magnificant voice. WOW !!!

  • Freaking LOVE the piano and bass work on this track, in addition to Joan's incredible vocals...

  • This is decent version but Aretha's version smokes anyone else's.

  • awesome version

    loved it

  • I so need video for this song! These stills just don't get the job done!

  • Hot! Damn hot!

  • GREAT voice!

  • Best version for me. this is from joans early recording album

  • I fuckin love this song, and Joan does it better than anyone!!!

  • @CrimsonChampions WTF are you referring to?

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII I have an idea, Slick. Go up to a Black dude and start saying 'Wigger" and "Nigger" Count the seconds until you are flat on your back begging for the beating to stop. Racist little pussy.

  • You dopey wankers!-

    Dusty? NOT-

    Dosnt anyone recognize Janis Joplin?

  • @Xychk It's Joan Osbourne. Although she may sound a lot like J.J., that doesn't make anyone a "dopey wanker". Don't YOU recognize Janis?

  • aint a dan thing wrong withthis performance but whoever put this video together been smoking dope and dtinkin soco straight up!lol

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII Dude she has always been like this, you just never knew how to be racist when you were a kid and listened to her...... It's you who has changed bro.

  • she's ugly.

  • Just the best version out there...gotta be

  • @SYVZS Agreed! Man, she just rocks. Just... rocks!

  • I just saw her in Foxborough (outside Boston). Amazing.... She sang with just a piano/guitar accompanyment. Before each song she would quietly build up the rhythm inside until it burst out of her in song... She has so much soul she is unstoppable. The only great thing about her not being a mega-star is we get to see her in small intimate venues.

  • realy best version

  • Dang! This ought to be released as a single!

  • Was it Janis?

  • Comment removed

  • velvet voice, the soul sound of sun, made in Detroit ?

  • simply wow

  • Thank you, Elwood Blues, for turning me on to this magnificently talented individual.

  • @mwnelson - it's on her "Early Recordings" CD, which should be available online. It's from a live cd she did called "Soul Show - Live at the Delta 88" early 90's.

  • couldnt agree more.... sadly it dosnt seem to be the common opinion in the musicindustri and the users at this moment in time! Maybe I dont get the whole picture... stopped listening to a lot of new voices and stick to whatever Ive come across in the past. It dosnt seem all that interesting to me whats going on theese years. Im a great musiclover though!

  • Hey,

Where did this live version come from? Is it available online?

    Thanks...

  • OOOOOOhhhhh. " feeling good.... Tribute to all the women who performed this classical......

  • If Dusty was alive, she would be proud of Joan.

  • i love this version !!!

  • thank you for give Janis this spot light!

  • wow

  • Have to agree with you there Sultan!

  • nettes Mädchen super Stimme!!!!!!!!!!!

  • her voice is amazing, but i really don't think it does this song justice. this song sounds much better with a more earthy sounding voice.

  • Great version - I think Dusty would be pleased

  • Wow !!

  • I gotta say~Joan Osborne's version of this classic song is the best cover in my opinion,I adore Dusty, but I really think this even better than original!
