  • I have been hunting for this for so long. Thank you so much!

  • Nice, that was cool

  • words can't describe how cool this is!!! I fell in love with the first SW soundtrack when I was 12 years old! I am now 47 and between the original SW soundtrack and the ESB... well it's hard to choose! seeing it made some thirty years later is just beyond fascination for me. Thank you Robkizzy! in the upcoming Blu-Ray release of the films I sure hope Lucasfilm spends more time on Johnny Williams than previously before!!!

He is the Mozart of our time!

  • @unemployedcomposer He was an orchestrator during the 50s or 60s wasn't he ?

  • Thank you for this document!! It's fantastic, John Williams is the best!!

  • THANK YOU!

This is an indrecible look at a master's process creating (in my opinion) the best soundtrack to any film, The Empire Strikes Back. John Williams in certainly this generation's Mozart. This is truly a treasure, and something of historical significance. I can't imagine why Lucas hasn't released this on DVD.

    BRAVO!

  • Whoever threw a dislike right there certainly doesn't know how to respect a film composer.

  • 56 people are normal...

1 person should thrown himself through a f***** window !!!!!

  • If Mozart was alive, he would have John Williams job. John Williams is the Mozart of our era...

  • Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams are / were known for their detailed orchestral sketches. This has changed with the advent of synths and play-it-into-the-sequencer and let some other person worry about fleshing it out for orchestra.

It was a joy to see Williams in action.

  • This documentary is incredibly interesting and unlike any I've seen about John Williams or the Star Wars films. The rare footage of Williams, Lucas and Kurtz working on The Empire Strikes Back, sitting with the editor, watching footage on a 35mm flatbed machine, is just remarkable. I wonder if the BBC has the original footage in a vault somewhere? Robkizzy, wherever you found this, I thank you for sharing. TESB changed my life at age 9. This was a huge treat to watch. Loved it!

  • This is just great. Its fascinating to see musical cues like the Mynok cave scene dissected and explained as Williams plays portions of it on the piano. Just amazing....

OT.... 3:35... looks like Michael Palin from Monty Python on strings... :)

  • great docu

  • Very generous upload of a very hard to find documentary - bravo!

  • Happy 30th Anniversary to the greatest sequel ever - The Empire Strikes Back.

  • Robkizzy - thank you so much for posting this - Ive always wanted to know more about the creative process behind scores for film, and particularly John Williams work on the original SW trilogy. As far as Im aware theres no documentary of this depth on any of the SW DVDs - and really there should have been. Thank you so much !!!

  • This is film gold! as well as music gold!

  • That's one the most interesting and detailed documentaries about the Maestro that i've seen yet. Thanks for uploading!

  • Never will be able to understand completely why he laugh at 4:00 !

  • @javilack

Because the first violins are out of tempo! ^^

  • wow thank you so much for uploading this. I've never seen my favorite score of all time being recorded before this :)

  • PRICELESS. THANK YOU!!

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING!

  • Thanks for this. i'd never seen or heard of this documentary before. Detailed and interesting. How they did it all with that steam-powered equipment is beyond me.

  • If you have Talent, it will blast through any kind of technology!

  • How did you ever find this documentary?

  • @Robkizzy more true words have seldom been spoken
