i've seen this bug in july 16 2008. it was the most weird bug i've ever seen, well not really, i've seen a caterpillar that is super puffy and if you touch it, you could die. but this is a spider
I was 5 once an while taking a bath I saw one of theses fuckers floating. They come out right now since its summer. I only see one about once every 3 weeks.
hcanuck7, they can sting, but it's nigh on impossible for their bitty pinchers to pierce human flesh. On the very rare occasions when they do manage to sting people, it's no more dangerous/painful than a bee sting or a mosquito bite. They're actually very shy and are more likely to run when you come at them.
You are not alone. 2 days ago, I was going to have a shower. I flicked my towel on the counter and I heard a light 'thud' (!) - thinking it was a moth or something else. Wrong. An inch plus long. I sprayed it with Tilex. the vain little bugger was more interested in grooming its antennae than exfiltrating from its area of operation.
i just killed one of these fuckers 2 minutes ago, it was scurrying across my ceiling and scared the crap out of me, and they go fucking fast. Nothing the ol shoe couldnt handle though.
What the hell is wrong with you? Don't EVER touch a Centipede again! They have a poisonous bite. You're lucky it didn't bite you the first time you touched it!
actually, these don't bite. instead, they STING... not just that, but they sting THROUGH THEIR LEGS... but they only use their sting on prey. never anything else. still i would never touch one... too CREEPEH >_>
cristiebird39, these things make the earwigs and spiders that I used to have a mortal fear of now tame by comparison...especially when just 2 years ago I had never seen one! I'm not a big fan of pesticides in general but these things make me thankful for RAID!!!!!
no... they do feed on silverfish though lol. it's called a House Centipede. look it up on wikipedia. no matter how freakishly disgusting they are, they're actually kinda cool.
Its a common house centipede - they don't like crumbs or human food - the only reason you see them is cuz you got bugs that like crumbs and human food. Centipedes run around all night eating roaches, silverfish, termites, earwigs and all the truly bad bugs. Like spiders they are essentially clean up bugs and very beneficial - just unfortunate they look so creepy - everyone makes the mistake to fear rather than respect them.
george383, you DO make a valid (and well thought out) point! Intellectually I would agree with you...but emotionally I can't, I just can't! Once they come into my house, all bets are off!!! LOL! ;-) ;-)
yeah those things are creepy, i saw one that was like 2 and a half inches long in my bed room, i didn't sleep in there for a good 3 months, they eat a lot of household bugs but i still don't want them in my house
i went to go to a crap and then it notice there is something on the wall. and then oh damn its a centipede. i shit myself, but good thing i was at the toliet. those things scare the living shit out fo me
these things are creepy as hell, but they eat other bugs and pests. Truth is, theyre harmless. Theire teeth are too small to penetrate human skin. they hide in my bathroom alot and its creepy when ur in the shower and u spot one in the corner. ive slayed countlless of these, but they wont stay away =O
yeah i didn't know what the fuck it was, first I found it in my bathroom:D why would you ever touch that motherfucker??? it can bite. it hurts from wat I read..damn ew
i have those all over my basement.. well not really but i have seen them and my rooms in the basement and i woke up with one right on my wall next to where i was sleeping and it scared the shit outta me cus their fricken disgusting and creepy as shit
house centipede.. they move there legs like that because they have multiple "brains" controlling there legs..they are an invasive species from the mediterraean
It's called a "Discronifacating Xenomorph", they crawl up you butt while you're sleeping and live in your colon, when they grow up they rip their way out of your chest, usually while you're eating with large numbers of people.
People need to realize that these things are in your house because they're living on something, as in another insect. Spray for bugs... the house centipedes go away if there's nothing to eat. Chuck them outside if you want; they're fine not in a house, too.
I throw water on them it weighs the legs down but it's even worse to see them move when they are all wet like a deformed worm gross. I found one in my bed one summer ever since I had to check the mattress and shake out the covers I even slept in a puddle of water cause I couldn't bring myself to kill it with my bare hands I just threw a cup of water on my bed.
One time as I was going to sleep one of those things was on my pillow. Didnt notice it till i laid down! Luckly i had a Jerry Signfeld book next to me...That tought him never to go on my bed again...But it scared the SHIT out of me.
what? no its not a centipede, its a red ant that has lazor vision!!! if u see one the best thing to do is.... RUN AND GET UR MOM TO KILL IT!!! hahahaha lol
House centipede! Ugly as hell but said to be a beneficial predator that hunts other nasty house bugs, such as spiders and mites. We have one. Thank god I rarely see it. It freaks me out. I've named ours George (because it looks like a walking "Bush!").

It's a house centipede alright...I used to see them all the time in my old house...probably because it was made of brick, and they like to hide in rock crevices and such...:) They're speedy little boogers!
They're actually pretty non-aggresive and are more interested in simply getting away than going on offense, if they do come towards you it's usually out of panic and confusion. There's somewhere another close-up Youtube video where a guy has one in a tray and keeps repeatedly annoying it with a pair of tweezers, it never does anything more than try to crawl away. If they weren't so damn fast and UGLY I'd just leave them alone and let them eat the other bugs, but unfortunately it's WAR!
I agree 100%, this is war lol. They look like they'll be very aggressive, and are pretty creepy. I'm just thankful I don't have an infestation, just a couple wandering bastards!
yes, they do bite, but its less painfull than a bee sting. The good thing about them is that they eat and kill household pests like spiders, bedbugs, termites, cockroaches, silverfish, ants and other household arthropods.
'Scutigera' or 'House Centipede'. Here in Ohio, we get a good amount of these bastards in the house, even if clean or with no clutter! It scares the shit out of my 3 year old, and freaks us out when we see these things bolt across the room. I bought a cordless hand vac just so I can vac these bastards up when I see them (if I can catch them). Some are pretty big too! Anyone know if there is any product to get rid of them?
Ortho Home Defense works great, also roach powder (Boric acid) works awesome too if you dust it all around the corners and places they hide. Keeping the house and basement dry is essential also, I've done all these things and went from a MAJOR problem to almost none at all.

You'd be surprised... there's actually enough of a fascination with these creatures in Japan that they really are sold in japan as exotic pets. No lie.
Yes, a house centipede. Ick. I was in the shower the other day and turned around and one was in the corner. I jumped out so fast! I sprayed it with water and rinsed it down the drain. I HATE THOSE THINGS!!!
I sure dont know, but have a strange bug to share too.

Scutigera coleoptrata, indigenous of the mediterranean area, they are now worldwide.
In Italy we allow them to roam free in our houses, because they are excellent flies and mosquito hunters.
You should be happy to have one, she's pest controlling your house. :)

Yeah they have their uses, especially if you have a problem with roaches.
