Have to say...there is no comparison to Newfoundland and the rest of Canada...just because Newfoundland is part of Canada seriously means nothing...Newfoundland is definitely an entirely different place....Newfoundland is an entirely different place from the rest of the world!
this summer, i met 2 people from ontario, and i started talking like this. they had no idea what i was saying and it was pretty funny(*just to note that im 12 and the guys where 12 and 14)lol
I loves this vid I do. Being from Newfoundland, I can understand it. I daresay my friends couldn't tell a damn thing being said. I was watching this last night and just about died laughing. xD I love how the humor is pretty much lost on Americans, and even most Canadians cuz they can't understand a word we Newfies says.
I'm from Newfoundland but I live in Ontario now. I have 2 friends here who have probably never even heard a newfie accent. I was talking to them about it once, and I said "how's ya gettin' on by?" and they looked at me weird and said "nonby?" lol.
Newfoundland is the best part of Canada :) & the newfoundland dictionary is just for fun. i guess we really know how to just "have a laugh" LOL ... howyagettinonme ole buddy haha
Hehe by dad met him yes by haah And how ye gettin on buddy is like how she going like uhh How are you I guess by ye im from newfoundland And You dont even relaise people say it like that cause its automatic yeah know? any see ya later me duckys
hahahaha oh my .. lol i showed my friend this, hes not from newfoundland see and he dont know how different the newfoundland accent is from canadians so i let him listen to this lol
Not really. I mean technically it is. But with some things (cultural things) especially with the accents we are like a whole separate group of people.
@BrandNewGirl89 That's for sure. People from other parts of Canada practically need a translator when they go to Newfoundland. The language is almost completely different, even though it is English.
@JeannieIrenePayne right, french canadians are exactly the same as vancouverites, who are also the same as natives in northwest territories, and also the same as fruit farmers in the okanagan, who are also the same as all the immigrants in toronto. RIGHT! newfoundland vs rest of canada! good ratio makes sense!
What the h*ll are you talkin' about? No province is exactly the same as any other province, especially Newfoundland when you compare it to the rest of Canada. It's not a bad thing, we're just different ! I don't even think you read my comment properly, because you made no sense at all... & you suck at sarcasm. : )
Newfoundlanders are probably the friendliest folks in North America. I'm talking genuinely friendly, not feigned politeness.

0:46 - "How's ya gettin on d'there, cocky?" - Means How are you (to a male)
0:55 - "How's ya gettin on buddy?" - Means how are you
1:14 - "How ya gettin on, buddy?" "Alright, my son."
1:22 - "Where Ya From?" "Glovertown." "Yeah." "Yes, by." - Yes by means Yes, boy, as in agreement.
1:27 - "What's your name?" "Nick Gainey"
1:31 - "I knows you!" "Go on..." - Go on in response means "Yeah right".
1:34 - "I knows ya father" "Yes, by" - Yes, by in this context means, "No kidding!"
