Respond to this video... I say fair play to this man... ok he may have copied ideas... have any of you ppl out there struggled to feed your family & friends ? l guess you have not... dont try and visualise what you cannot see.
Yeah, it all comes off a little condescending but probably not intentionally. I think the interviewer was really more fascinated by the process of truing a wheel. Visit your local bike shop some time and ask to watch them build or repair a wheel with spokes. It is actually a very eye-for-detail process and kind of fascinating. One of the things I love about bicycles is how simple they are and it is relatively easy to do most repair work yourself.
Very nice, but so what. These people eat live and sleep bicycles, of course they are going to have to make tools to do the jobs when they don't have the resources to purchase the proper tools. What can I say...
A wheel truing stand isn't that original, but the cog set wrench is clever. I think a chain whip would be less likely to damage the cog wheels when changing out a cog set.
I agree, I was going to make a truing stand in my metal shop class just never got around to it, these people live in a third world country so we think of them as dumb? So if they do something like this, it's really "inspirational". I made a bike stand with adjustable clamp and everything like a stand you would buy, I have a video on my youtube showing it. Can I have a article written about me? Oh wait, I don't live in a third world country. So no one cares.
Aaron, I would agree with you to an extent. I will side with you that since we do not live in a third world country, you have an education and much more financial support, whether it is your part-time job at Mc Donalds or your weekly allowance that your mom gives you to clean your room. So yes, you're correct that you dont stand out because there are plenty more people here traditionally educated, wealthier, and have the luxury of having the money, resources, and time for hobbies.
You stated that you were going to make a truing stand in shop class but did not get around to it. You my friend were privileged threefold; you had the education, resources, and the convenience of deciding to put your project on the back burner. I guess the point Im trying to get across is would you be so successful at it if you were in a third world country? Probably not.
I would even go as far to say he is probably the best at what he does in his country and if he were in the States backed by the bike industry standards training and tools, would even be amongst the best here, since he has complete foundational understanding of how bicycles work. Im not even going to go into the fact that he makes 14 cents to true a wheel that costs us 25-35 depending in the states, sheet whats shipping to Africa? LOL
Its a shame the Chinese who now manufacture most of the bikes sold in Britain cannot true a wheel as well as this man does.

I'll bet there are some really innovative designed out there . They are taking our "throw away" bikes and turning them into something New.

The guy made his own truing stand and vice grip remover - a tool already made by Pedros. Nothing hugely innovative.

@chanrobi at the same time there's nothing hugely innovating on Pedro's catalog, either - or anyone else's, for that matter.

Yeah, but a chain whip wouldn't take that freewheel off...easily. The right tool would be a freewheel removal tool.
The tool he has is better for his purposes than a chain whip.
