The larghetto session of this duet tells us that Ferrando genuinely falls in love with Fiordiligi, although initially he was only playing a mind game. But in this production the guy remains invulnerable all the way through. The lack of mutual emotional breakdown (into each other) makes this duet less moving and seductive. I blame this on Claus Guth!
The only part of this production I am sure that I have liked so far is the feminist ending--the women are pissed off (excuse my language) by the unfair treatment. But I need to digest other parts to see whether I like the entire production.
Ferrando here is the cynic aggressor. He sits there while offering to be Fiordiligi's "sposo, amante..." I don't see how she gets moved and gives in eventually. The acting is sexual, but not sexy.
Yeah, the staging of this is pretty lifeless. Look at the clip of the same duet - with the same singers - from the 2006 Glyndeborne production to see some real chemistry between them.
I totally agree with you. The Glyndebourne staging was great, this one is... well, Claus Guth. *sighs* What is more, Topi Lehtipuu's voice could not deal with the big house in Salzburg. He was much better in Glyndebourne. Miah Persson was great in Salzburg, though.
I like the staging really. But the hole production makes only sence, if you have seen Guth`s Nozze and Giovanni too. Then it`s a really interesting production.
Sublime interprétation du sublime duo ! Ces deux chanteurs/comédiens sont prodigieux ! Bravissimo et merci !

He could be false but still more intense with her (as a part of his game), so she would give in more easily!!
I don't like the staging for this scene much, but the music is always divine. And that's what most counts!!! ^^

@DoryViolet I disagree that he could be false and make her give in. Fiordiligi wouldn't fall for games.

U r RIGHT!!!! I have the glyndebourne prod, the duet is much more intense. (But every director interprets the opera in his own way).
On the contrary, I like Fiordiligi's arias much more in this prod. than in 2006. She has improved since then I guess.

Oh my, this must be the darkest, most hopeless, least lighthearted Così ever - seems great though! Thanks a lot for all these posts!
