  • Like if you seached this song off of halo music hell!:D

  • PULAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • vaginaaaaaaaa

  • Phil collins at the start of the song, "Sho boiii, aight aight, lemme holla at ya bout something close to my hizzle...uh uh...All day long he was fighting for you and he didn't even know...."

  • We Had To Listen To This For Our Music Exam.

  • Great song! I love Phil soft voice scince i heard him singing everyday for the first time in the radio. I am so sad that i havent so him live and he want to stop making music. I will miss him so mush!

  • What is the song about? I understand the lyrics but i can not interpret it.

  • @kath87md This song was written about the sectarian violence between England and Northern Ireland, catholic nationalists and protestant unionists

  • Phil Collins makes my nightmares a little better when I program to his voice before bed. Man, in 15 years, I'm gonna get all nostalgic about late nights nerding out to Genesis.

  • I love this song...favorite one off the album

  • This is a good song for all the war veterans

  • who you singing to.?

  • why is it that this song must be about war or conflict at that level? How about the shit we live through everyday. It matters not which country you live in, the human condition prevails around the globe.

People cause other people to suffer some times, that is just the way it is.

  • The best ever!

  • ...and the video has had me in tears, I have never seen it before but oh man!!! why cant artists do this today??

  • I remember this vaguely from when I was young, very young. I remember feeling so sad hearing it, and that guitar at 1.33 is so damn sad sounding.....the lyrics are tearjerking.....

  • dit vind ik één van de mooiste liedjes

  • I always tried to make the lyrics to this song represent something smaller, but still significant: basically the nice guy who witnesses a woman being abused. He of course helps her and doesn't offer his name and she continues the same cycle, but remembers that guy who helped her. But, then "you see the dying..." kicks in and I considered that this song had a more global message.

  • Dammit phil collins is the fucking MAN.

  • Such a brilliant song, Phil and David sound wonderul together -so underrated and sadly still so relevant.....

  • Good tune - still...released 20 years ago this month!

  • because we'd forgot what war was about, this was why this wasn't a hit. Know we've got it knocking at the front door people see the point of the song.

  • blijft mooi

  • This is about that conflict in Northern Ireland isn't it?

  • @Coruscant98 Yes, but I imagine the lyrics are ambiguous enough that the song could apply to other conflicts and wars as well.

  • @batman4ebr Could be Viet Nam too!!! I can relate!!

  • @Coruscant98

Viet Nam I imagine, I was there

  • @droolingdogs Glad you got out of that hell-hole of a war alive comrade :)

  • @Coruscant98 Me too but I still carry scars (literally) from 43yrs ago.

  • @Coruscant98 It's about every war in history.

  • @FILMFREAK420 yeas but it did had an touch for the ireland war and i think it was wrote becuase of

  • moving me 500 miles away from illinois probably nessecary for peace and happiness

  • Phil and David do an amazing job on this song.

  • This song never fails to send shivers through my body!! Just one of those songs that is so touching and real!! Love u phil collins u ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Unreal, completely fantastic, thank you for upload

  • David Crosby looks like a 70's pornstar in this video, lol

  • cette ancienne chanson de phil collins est absolument sublime !

  • Pardon the anorak comment here, but could that be Leland Sklar on bass?

  • Indeed it is! Sklar has played on several of Phil's albums, and a couple of his tours as well. It shouldn't surprise you. Sklar seems to have played with almost EVERYBODY! Check him out on Wikipedia and look at the discography. I was blown away. I've never known any musician who's played with so many other great musicians.

  • No. You're right. Leland Sklar just shows up everywhere there is decent music going on. Know him well from work on other stuff too

  • @batman4ebr Lee Sklar is astonishing. Just brilliant - and unassuming!

  • Anybody who dosent like this song has no soul lolz

  • @MegaTinubator or dosen't know what good music is xD

  • Why this song wasnt a bigger hit I will never understand(at least here in Norway)

One of the most underrated songs Phil Collins have ever had.

  • @krismusicfan i agree...this is his best song and music video ever and i dont know why the song didnt became a # 1 on the charts...i think people has an bad way to handle sad and serious songs

  • My favorite singer for ever and ever s2

  • peace, love and harmony to all....

  • well the video might show images of WAR.. but change WAR with Hatred and you might get a total new opinion on this song..

    just a thought

  • this is about N. Ireland not Vietnam as in previous posts, but neither is it only about war in general - if Wikipedia is to be believed :)

  • Great Song...

    Phil, best singer!!!

    Luv!!!

  • IF U DON'T LOVE THIS SONG, UR NOT HUMAN.

  • what a beautiful song! Dave Crosby and Phil Collins have 2 of the most distinctive and wonderful voices!

  • the day of helping and giving was destroyed by roadway express and at&t and the right winged republicans who only care about themselves.........america once proud and righteous is now been reduced to liars who are crock of shit

  • Absolutely gorgeous song and video with a powerful message. We're all human and no matter race, creed, or religion we're all humankind...and we're in this together.

  • this is a great song. phil collins4ever

  • Me encantan sus canciones siempre con significados tan profundos

  • Its very clear.

  • After all these years I still don't know the meaning to this song. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with a war. (All day long he was fighting for you.../You see them die & you feel the pain...) Plus select images from the video. It has to be war-related.

  • The meaning of this song is very clear. its A PEACE MESSAGE. God knows we need as much peace in this world as we can get. With out peace the consequences are so terrible. The video shows war footage and the result of,but It's actually A message of wanting peace.

  • I'm pretty sure it's mainly about Vietnam.

  • its about the trials & tribulations OF WAR, hatred, greed and all that encompasses it. the pain we feel when seeing our sons & daughters die off due 2 these things, 2 try & bring about a peace before it all starts going wrong. its also telling how unneeded it is 2 have 2 go through it all when all that's needed 2 be done is set aside all the differences & discuss the topics at hand, and come to a humanly acceptable agreement that keeps everyone from getting hurt. that's what i get from it.

  • I agree with the war message. The video is obviously about the ills of war. I was merely stating in my post below that it's too bad greed and corruption reign and so many innocent lives have to be lost through needless bloodshed. Too bad leaders can't see we are all one, despite our physical and ethnic differences and that when we hurt each other we're hurting all of mankind.

  • i agree with you, but you commented on this video as saying it was MAINLY about vietnam. and its not. its a generalization about war in total.

  • Yep, it was my mistake. I was thinking of another video and hadn't watched this one the entire way through. Sorry. :)

  • its quite alright. nice chatting with someone on here, who dont get all bent out of shape over something..when someone voices their constructive criticism...know what i mean? ;)

  • I totally understand. :)

  • why do we keep holding on? pretending to be oh so strong? is there something going on? something no-one told me? or maybe thats just the way it is....-------Let go and let God!

God will use your tears to water a seed of love in someones heart,

    NEVER give up on LOVE!

  • No tengo palabras, gracias Phil, por todos estos sentimientos, que me provocan escuchar tus canciones

  • we hold on through hope that things won't always be "the way it is"...

  • Phil Collins forever! Love all his songs...so soothing to the ear and the best part, song has a meaning...love u phil :)

  • "when I listen to this song, I imagine my lady pregnant and I think, and I see myself working for that person that I don't know yet, but to whom I'm already dedicating all effort and work, at the same time I think of the great person that is my father that has broken his back for his children!!! I love this song!!!"

  • Could someone please translate that last comment into English for me? I'd appreciate that.

  • I've translated it, on the internet:

when I listen to estye subject, I imagine woman embarrasses and fodder and I see myself much working by that creature that still I do not know, but already I am dedicating to all my effort and work to him, at the same time fodder in my father great person who is broken the back working for all children! master this song!

  • Great Song!

  • only for a little bit power. it ain't worth it is it....

  • We need peace, love, liberty, and our troops home.

Ron Paul would make all this happen..

  • Yeah, and creationism taught in school, funding for NASA eliminated and corporations unchecked to wreak havoc on the environment.

  • So many brave people have died for the freedoms and liberties of people they never knew. Why? Because some in this world would rather oppress and enslave for their own means. As long as those types of people exist (dictators, despots, etc.), there will be a need for brave young men and women to fight them. That's the way it is.

To think we fight "because of our differences" is naive. Mao, Hitler, Stalin - killed hundreds of millions to stay in power, not because of differences.

    Great song.

  • peace does not come from war

  • And there will always be naive people like you who really think that is what they are fighting for. You are brainwashed, beleive that Mr.Privatepigg

  • And you think that the individual men and women who liberated Europe, or other places, were fighting for what, exactly? We didn't occupy Europe, or Japan, our men and women did not come back with loot and riches. They came back and had nothing, injured or dead, but left the places they had been freer and better than they had previously been. Gee, look at Europe, Japan, and S. Korea now.

But please tell us all the horrible true motives for fighting the despots. The ones you can't prove...

  • Yeh, u got alot of time on ur hands....but yeh, every war has been committed for a alterior motive. And this is youtube, i dont feel ike proving ANYTHING TO YOU lol for real. In world war two, rockafeller and other american banks and companies sold weapons to both sides of the war.its money my friend, not liberation....last comment bro, so react if you wish but get a life, i just drive by insult people on here

  • Of course you can't prove anything, and of course you just "drive by" insult people, because nothing you say can be backed up. Who's the loser?

And the possibility that certain people profited from selling things during the war doesn't mean the country, the leaders, and the men and women who actually fought had ulterior motives. The two aren't even remotely related. Rockafeller made money - so how does that mean someone's grandfather fought for some ulterior motive?

  • privatepigg, but this song was specifically written regarding the sectarian violence in Northern Ireland. You do understand that, right?

  • one great song :)

  • thanks a lot, really nice song =)

  • great song, love it. it's about war and how awful that is

  • superbrain

  • This is a great song! Phill you are the man keep up the good music! I like David Crosby in the back ground it sounds great!

  • I've remember the time, when Collins was my favourite musicans (sth like hero :D) [still I like him], but [I feel ashamed] this song was the first, when I discovered David Crosby (CS'n'N) long time after :) Delicious :)

  • very nice song and with Crosby, it's wonder full. ..

    Très belle chanson.

  • thank you so much!!! i asked for that song, when i saw "hero" from david crosby and phil.

great song, i used to listen to this song on tape all the time, when i was a kid
