  • Wow, great shuffle drummer.

  • @Tremolux59 I think thats Keven Schermerhorn.. sounds like him. My all-time favorite shuffle-drummer. Great meter, feel and keeps it in the pocket (all while looking darn good too.. haha).

  • Sends shivers down the spine....

  • This is just great stuff. Killer shuffle drummer. Anson and Mike are great. Can't go wrong covering the old Albert Collins classics.

  • Needsless to say this is awesome. There's something that startles me in ansons playing though. He tends to repeat his phrases a lot. His trick bag is pretty deep so it's not like he keeps playing the same licks over and over but after you listen to 2 or 3 songs from him in a row it feels like thereis a lot of repetition. I'd expect a little from a musician of ansons caliber but still great performance. O also like mike Morgans tone a lot.

  • @iceman273 - Anson isn't trying to set the world on fire with his blazing licks, or deep repitoire. He has a distinct, recognizable style and a well deserved reputation of placing the right notes at the time, but he does what he does.

  • @vibroluxor He's my hero, I know his playing inside and out. This one sounded a bit off to me, that's all.

  • @iceman273 He plays almost exclusively in the first position, as such a huge fan you should know that. don't think you can't get much more 'repetitive' than that.

  • @vibroluxor What's amazing about Anson is that, while he does have his own style, he can imitate so many players perfectly. I saw Sam and him do about 20 minutes of T-Bone Walker tunes and his phrasing and licks were pure T-Bone. Anohter time I heard them do a Chuck Berry song and he sounded just like Chuck! I think his playing, like most modern "real" white blues players, is really an amalgam of a lot of different styels. I hear a lot of B.B. and Freddie King, Guitar Slim in his playing.

  • @KayJayHP Thats true of any guitarist, if they had someone to listen to.. we borrow from different people.. get our bag of tricks packed... and in time, we've developed our own style that is derived from the styles of many. Most everyones playing style is a melting-pot.. but, I think people generally have some sort of signature "twist" or move that allows their style to differentiate from everybody elses.

I hope that makes sense :-)

  • @margovallen Sure it does! And Anson, in particular, has his own phrasing or internal clock or rhythmic sense or whatever you want to call it. As I said, he can imitate various players to a T yet he has a style that when you hear it, you immediately recognize it.

  • @KayJayHP He sounds like most other "blues" players in the local scene IMO. All of the people I've heard thus far, in the local scene.. who are into "swing-blues" and "jump-blues".. all sound pretty much alike. And they all try to seemingly aim for the exact same tone. I've been exposed to blues music all of my life. I think Ray Charles type stuff may had been my first exposure to that sound... and I am speaking of actual "sound".. approach.. more than the music itself.. as RC was more R&B.

  • I'll take Brian "Hash Brown" Calway over most of the others in those particular styles of blues, anyday :-)
