There is a disconnect in your logic in the sense that you have to understand it is the person using a weapon to kill...not the weapon itself. There's a major link between this case and the drugs that are crossing the border. The government has been making tons of money from illegal drugs and continue to do so since the 1980's( hence Iran contra affair.) Most people cant see the forest from the tree's and focus on the smaller details instead of the bigger picture.

We were INDIRECTLY supporting the crime. We didn't say: hey lets sell these guns to a bunch of Mexicans and let them kill each other because it's going to help get rid of them.

What this was was a test to see HOW MANY and HOW OFTEN Mexicans bought our guns illegally and used them in crimes in Mexico. "Let's see how many they use, let's see how many they BUY..and when we can spot it.. let's get them while they are in Pheonix." That was the intention behind this.
