Most people don't know that the "this is CBS" voice was not just an ornament...it was an outcue for the local stations to run their local spots right after. I spent several years in radio and TV master control....and I miss the "This is CBS" voice...All gone now because everything is computerized. What once was switched by people sitting behind a control panel is now done by computer...that's why you see more flash frames and errors than ever.
Osgood did this "NEWSBREAK" {8:57pm(et)} because, as he mentions at the end, he also anchored the 15 minute "CBS SUNDAY NIGHT NEWS" at 11pm(et), later that night. The Midas spot was also seen locally on WCBS-TV in New York (one time, after Osgood's newscast, I remember)...
