  • The key to the whole deal is the 2 screwdrivers he shows between the tube and forend. From there was able to get mine off with out making a cut on a fairly new 590a1. Thanks for the video.

  • Note, the below method did break the plastic tabs that engage the depressions in the tube. whcih I consider preferable to cutting the foreend. You may want to spray some wd-40 in beween the metal sleeve and the forened to facilitate the process.

  • I did not want to cut the forend of my 590. I screwed the nut back on part way and rapped it with a nylon mallet. That broke the 3 lugs loose. I unscrewed the nut a bit and rapped it again until the nut bottomed again. Then I took off the nut and poked the slide assembly out with the hammer handle, which just fit in the forend. Took about a minute and used one tool.

  • the butter knife was a gd idea but thats all i needed. after a removed the nut pull hard and off went the plastic forend.

  • @justchilln1424 same here, I just removed my forend with the tool that TAPCO gave me. Basically, I pushed, twist, and pulled the forend off. Now, could it be a later model and MOSSBERG and Sons changed the manufacturing of the forend? They (Manufacturer) should give you the tool to remove the forend. I didn't have to do all that work.

  • Damn it, finally!!!! After reading N reading....this is what I was looking to find! A great video!!!! Got a 590A1

  • Great instruction video man. really appreciate that. the put it in a vise and break it approach didn't seem intelligent. really appreciate this.

  • *good

  • easy thank god i didnt have to buy another

  • I have a 500 which should be the same, I watched this thinking it would be tricky but then simply gave a small wack with plastic end of screwdriver on the grip, slides right off. Not sure all this is needed.

  • Changing out my forend today. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!!!!

  • thanks for doing this video.. i am in the same boat. looking for a mounting system but with little assistance from the internet.

  • @2:17 - Leave the nut on before you cut so you dont screw up the threads if you cut through too hard.

  • worked amazingly well on my 590A1. You da man!

  • for the cut, would a hack saw work as well? or a saw for ceiling molding, that has very fine and semi sharp teeth? Cause I don't have a knife like that

  • It worked perfectly, thanks!

  • I just tool the action/forend assy out as shown, removed the nut ( mine was really tight and a knife spine wasn't cutting it so I had to use round jawed vice grips which I was careful not to deform the ring with).

I did not need to cut anything or pry anything.

This part is pressed in and it can be pressed out.

I used a hammer and a screwdriver which I used in the metal part while I held the molded part and hammered the tube out.

The molded part was not damaged, nor was the tube.

  • Thanks for your video. Took me less than 4 minutes to replace my forend using the technique you showed. Super easy. Two thumbs up!

  • Only the post 2008 590s have this problem

  • Onlythe post 2008 590s have this problem...

  • Thanks! Worked like a charm!

  • I have the 590 & I Need to Replace the Metal part can I do that Without Damaging the tube

  • U saved my ass bro,I almost returned a good foregrip for my mossberg 500 because I ran in to this problem...

  • Please leave the gunsmithing to the pros. Anytime a butterknife and a serated knife are used to work on a weapon, you are messing up. Just unscrew the ring on the tube and push the tube in the opposite direction that the ring is on. I would hate to see you fix stuff around the house.

  • @MrSwitchz Please leave the advice giving to the pros. Anytime someone tries to give shotty advice, God kills a kitten. I would hate to see you in real life.

  • I've heard that Mossberg has been molding foreends together into one piece like this in newer models. This vid could come in handy if this ever comes up.

  • Thanks so much for this!

  • Don't do any of this! I recently changed my 590 forend without having to cut anything.

Just un-screw the magazine cap and lightly tap the action out of the hand guard in the opposite direction. You do not need to cut anything!

  • Very nicely done Ricardo Padilla!! I am thinking of replacing mine and was not sure how to take the polymer off or if I had to replace the whole thing. Thanks!!

  • sweet vid man. I have my new forend coming today for my 500. Im assuming the forend assembly is the same as the 590. **I hope** I'll let ya know and thanks for the instructions.

  • I followed all your instructions for my Mossberg 500a. Luckily I didn't need to cut anything. Your step-by-step instructions worked GREAT! Thank you very much!

  • Will I have to do the same for a 590a1?

  • Excellent! Man you saved me a headache! Muchisimas gracias!

  • good job on ruining the oringal forend.

  • @Azsholebynature No ruin on the original forend my friend. I just did this preemptively out of boredom and there is absolutely no damage to the stock forend, if there's any to yours you may had been too rough on it.

  • will this wirk on the newr 500s and Mavricks that are made the same way , I would think so?

  • what size is the Ergo? short or medium?

  • I came across this video while modifying my Mossberg. You saved me a lot of time/money/effort. Thanks for the video!

  • Very good video. Ill use this when my new railed forearm comes in. Thanks

  • nicely done thanks for the help

  • its also easier to heat the polymer befor u do that it comes off almost with no effort

  • Hi can 5 pound metal slides for the mossberg still be purchased? i remember the old days where they had metal slides i cant find any please some one answer~

  • Lol I have a 590a1 also and mine too is basically fused on. Heard that some have no prob removing it and on others it's super tough to remove. You and I must be the unlucky ones haha. Didn't want to remove mine to put in some houge grips cus I don't know how to get a replacement for the forend if I screw up bad. But I might try your method. At least its better than the using the, jam the end into a broomstick to remove it method
