your altruism is a virtue but there is much to learn. firstly, you cannot change the world. in fact i saw a video the other day about 2 iranian teenagers hung as punishment for being gay and there was nothing that anyone could do about it. so don't be hard on yourself if something tragic happens because it can destroy you on the inside. and what needs to happen is that you need to grow stronger and wiser on the inside if you are going to battle hatred.
@db1usa I'm sorry you have lead such a hard life. I'm sorry that you let what can be for everyone at some point the overwhelming hatred and cynicism of life get to you. But when one feels this way one must look back at all that HAS been changed and all the progress that has been made and that only happened because of people like powerfirst. Yes it is true that some of these people go unheard but who is the weaker one? The one who tries and fails or the one who never tries at all?

This video made me cry. I myself and bi but my bestfriend shane was bullied/abused for being gay. I remember one time a group of guys broke him arm & threw I'm in a dumpster. He commited suicide shortly after. Its sickening how close-minded people can say their way is the only way. We all bleed and breathe the same way. We're all human. Would it be so hard to keep the hatred to yourself? Why would you hate anyway?
The part about people fearing to come out because their siblings will hate them? yeah, I know how that feels. I'm out now, but it took me actually seeing the end of my life in the near future to prompt me to stop hiding. The problem is that Gay abuse is ingrained in todays society. It seems like nothing to say, "Oh, thats gay" or "way to go homo", but these terms hurt those who are still in the closet and make them choose to remain closeted longer.
Maybe queers wouldn't be persecuted so much if they 1) quit acting, dressing, and talking so damn weird 2) quit shoving their disgusting lifestyle down everyone's throats 3) quit trying to get straight people to go gay [YES, THIS HAPPENS] and 4) quit trying to make everyone give them special rights and privileges. Brendan "Amico Mio" the empathy and incredulousness that you've expressed, has Bobby Griffiths' (Prayers for Bobby) old lover/boyfriend "Blaine" here in tears! Likely "Ragazzo Dolce" (Sweet Boy) because I recall all too well being "Out" in a time when this type of "Thing" was a routine occurrence! But tears of joy also sweet guy because you "Bello" and your entire generation do in fact "Get It" , and will go on to change everything irrevocably! Yeah!!!!!

I never came home with blood on my shirt, rather, they would grab me when I was washing my hands. They would come up behind me, pick me up, hold me against the wall and then the rest of the group of them would punch me (not in the face, that would show.) They called me names and even push me on the ground and kick me. I still have not come out and I do not act "gay," it was all because I was intelligent, I can't imagine what they might do if they knew I was gay. One day i will come out though.
@LeoDostoevsky Being intelligent was like a setback for me. I was beaten by two boys while I was in the third or fourth grade and I remember how after that my whole body was bruised and that I couldn't really move because of the pain. And in the next day of school, I was embarrased because of it. I couldn't say a word. And of course those boy spreaded the word that they had beaten me. It was kind of horrific, but being such a tolerant person made it easier to let go.
@Leddido Wow, that is terrible, I am sorry it happened to you too. But I just always remember that there are so many wonderful things about me and who I am, (not to sound conceded) but I knew that if I kept holding on it would get better. It really is getting better. I don't see how people can beat up others, I don't believe i could...
It is getting better though, and it helps to know that others faced the same things I faced and made it. :D
apogies for causing offence it just seemed that way to me as if the heart of your message seemed somehow to be drowned out by being theatrical and it seems a few others interpreted it that way. I should have worded it better so apologies and i agree with the root of your message :)
@rjfoster2 So you have never been passionate about anything your life then? Because to be honest, I'd rather express myself in an extreme way, then just passing life by with no emotions. Your comment means...MEH.
2:02 "It's Wrong!" I reminded me of Faith in Buffy the vampire slayer saying that in front of the mirror. Made me laugh.
I also watched some of your videos and i really liked it! Continue making more and more :D And something else to add, don't be nervous in front of the camera, you're perfect ;)
I don't know if you were just acting or it was real you but this video is so full of emotions that it made me feel uncomfortable, even being such an emotional person as I am.
People consider themselves as civilized creatures. So can someone please explain to me how can a civilized individual commit such a horrific act against another person just because he or she is different from what is considered as 'normal' by those idiotic sterotypes. What's wrong with being different?
People should realize that it's our differences that make us humans....
thank you! for putting this up! ive come very close to being beaten because i was gay, which is stupid cuz im much more then that. this gives me so much strength so i thank you for putting this out
62yo beat up in 1985 with broken right arm and 2 ribs - car driving by was all that stopped the boot kicking in to my face - I am alive and free hoping the gang that did it found peace within themselves...
I was crushed in my life by both physical and psychological abuse.
But right now I became strong like a stone. Nobody can insult me any longer, because I decided to be happy no matter what!
I have two sisters and they hate me.
But I wasn't born here. I came from Eastern Europe, where right now the American Right-Wingers (Born-Again Baptists) are spreading as much hate against the homosexuals as they can!
The biggest bigot's name is Eric Brewer, and he is a born-again american.
You speak with such conviction; it really shows how dedicated you are to the cause. I like how you had such a serious, yet inspirational, monologue at the very end and then closed with a smile. I give you props
in school, people got bullied...i went to a good school where fights happened maybe once a year and was mostly words - no one person got bullied and no-one was bullied for being gay...but when i went to uni i was mugged...i was at a time when i was finding who i was and accepting i was gay, i was coming home after going to a gay pub, because it was a friend b-day, i got mugged and beaten, i was religious at the time and thought it was punishment - i still partly think this
i remember when i was like 13, that i came home from skool (now an old skool) with a bleeding nose cuz this kid punched me alot in the face for being gay, but i was still myself, but my grandparents seen me bleeding, they called the skool and ya :3 i am gay and i am myself and i will not let any1 push me around, i bet gaga wouldn't want me being a fake, just myself :3
Congrats, this was very moving. It made me cry.I am in the closet because one of my greatest fears is being abuse for being gay.. I love you for this. I really do. I hope to someday find a guys as good, and mentally strong, and wise as you
Wow! I was so moved watching this I got so choked up I couldn't talk! What a beautiful message given so heartfelt! I wish I would have had at least one friend like you when I was growing up! Heck, even now . Your a rare and beautiful soul! :)
@LoveFamke That's fine. Doesn't have to be. Sometimes you can never see a person for who they really are, and what they stand for on a 4:50 minute video. Don't matter.
@n2p94114 By having others believe they don't should stand up for anyone, regardless of the sexual preference, race, ect... We're all humans just trying to make it. I know the world can never be at peace, but still got to try.
Ok. This really touced me. I feel so proud to live in a world where there are people like you who can stand up for people no matter what their sexual preference is. Nobody should have to experience any kind of abuse whatsoever and I can see it really has had an effect on you. I have never been abused because I am gay but I sure know what to do if it ever happens.
I could hug you right now. Keep smiling Brendan :-)
It was not meant to be an insult, I am just stating your going to find out that in my time and previous times young gay men were killed and in nice suburban neighborhoods. just for being gay.
I to have been abused for being gay there was no blood on my shirt just on his I know it was not the right thing to do but Im not a small guy and im from a small farming town
in outback australia and I was rasied to stand up for my self .If I could take it back I would abuse of any kind is not right
I know your upset,,but I am a 49 yr old gay male that has served in the AF and am a firefighter about to retire,,If all this is news to you,,you are naive
@Clemburke1111 Okay..I am just stating something I feel strong about. Its just one opinion today. I have many..but most of my videos are for the gay community okay? Please don't be so judgement about this. One mans opinion. That is all.
It's not the younger gay generation's fault we live in a heterosexist society which promotes a heterosexual world history. We aren't taught about the AIDs epidemic, we aren't taught about Harvey Milk or the Stonewall Riots. Many of us have to find out for ourselves (assuming we ever even come to terms with who we are, and there are many gays who don't) exactly what the would is really like and what has happened and is continuing to happen to gays. Blame the world.
@HenhousetheRed Blaming the world is a childish notion and lacks maturation. You must always look to your self and your own generation in order to correct situations that have gone off coarse.
Thank YOU for being a strong gay man and talking about such a horrid subject. I personally never went thru such things but i did stop and help another guy from it happening to him. it was in high school and a couple of football players where going to beat up on a guy for being who he is. thanks again<3
Your very right.

People consider themselves as civilized creatures. So can someone please explain to me how can a civilized individual commit such a horrific act against another person just because he or she is different from what is considered as 'normal' by those idiotic sterotypes. What's wrong with being different?
People should realize that it's our differences that make us humans....

As for you, Powerfirst, I can tell you that all you are inspiring is LOVE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM.
Good enough!

I give you props

in school, people got bullied...i went to a good school where fights happened maybe once a year and was mostly words - no one person got bullied and no-one was bullied for being gay...but when i went to uni i was mugged...i was at a time when i was finding who i was and accepting i was gay, i was coming home after going to a gay pub, because it was a friend b-day, i got mugged and beaten, i was religious at the time and thought it was punishment - i still partly think this

sorry but this video is for me not real !! with the person in it
LoveFamke 1 year ago
@LoveFamke That's fine. Doesn't have to be. Sometimes you can never see a person for who they really are, and what they stand for on a 4:50 minute video. Don't matter.

Your video is counter-cultural and heroic. How can you fortify this strength and share it with others?
n2p94114 1 year ago
@n2p94114 By having others believe they don't should stand up for anyone, regardless of the sexual preference, race, ect... We're all humans just trying to make it. I know the world can never be at peace, but still got to try.

Abuse sucks. It's extremely traumatizing. And I'm glad you made a video about it!
learnt0f1y 1 year ago
Keep smiling Brendan :-)

antmanhd 1 year ago
It was not meant to be an insult, I am just stating your going to find out that in my time and previous times young gay men were killed and in nice suburban neighborhoods. just for being gay.
Clemburke1111 1 year ago
@Clemburke1111 Of course I know this. Of course I do. It's a couple minutes of words that's all. The point is the video.

@Clemburke1111
Would you rather have this young man and other young people ignore these actions? I can only wish that his voice was heard when I was his age.
You can always do your own personal video response rather than using verbal abuse.

I know your upset,,but I am a 49 yr old gay male that has served in the AF and am a firefighter about to retire,,If all this is news to you,,you are naive
Clemburke1111 1 year ago
@Clemburke1111 Okay..I am just stating something I feel strong about. Its just one opinion today. I have many..but most of my videos are for the gay community okay? Please don't be so judgement about this. One mans opinion. That is all.
powerfirst 1 year ago
@Clemburke1111
HenhousetheRed 1 year ago
@HenhousetheRed Blaming the world is a childish notion and lacks maturation. You must always look to your self and your own generation in order to correct situations that have gone off coarse.
