yeah i agree with most people when they say that u r playing against each other but in not harmony. and u just need to FEEL the blues a bit more. otherwise very good fingers.
Pretty impressive scales on piano, but not impressive in the fact that you musically make no connection with the guitarist. Im also a bit impartial to that bassline on the piano. Learn to communicate musically, you were actually kind of impolite to the guitarist.
It's SUPPOSED to be mainly improvised, but at the same time sound loose and PERFECT. Whether that means consonant or dissonant is up to you, but nonetheless the performers should sound like they know what they're doing, not just farting around, which is more than I can say of your ill-informed comment.
Actually, that thing sounds to me more or less FULLY improvised, Polyphonicjezz, not carefully rehearsed. It seems as though there is not much of a melody.
Not bad technique, but terrible improvisation. Clearly this player needs to see dots on a page. And the guitar playing was some of the worst I've ever heard in my life. Common misunderstanding of what jazz is. YUK!
That sounds fantastic, but it's not real blues or jazz.
See the thing is, Jazz and Blues should be played by mistake. You're meant to hit wrong notes that sound good, you're meant to play a little out of time and heck, it shouldn't sound perfect. Also, that doesn't sound very improvised: I'm not saying it's not, but it doesn't have that "what will I do next?" feel about it when you play.
i liked this piece alot, especially the raising scale in your right hand near the start of the piece. It would of been good to have had a more elaborate ending, especially on your part. all in all , 8 out of ten. btw check out mine, i need more publicity lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_9yMl9HJRw
If you and your guitar buddy can learn to really feed off of each other you guys would do great. As of now you're a much better musician than he is, you've got a strong grasp on the very technical aspects of jazz. For better grouping, your guitarist friend needs to learn how to sit in the background while you take over, you do a good job of letting him play though.
nice :) would've sounded much more jazzier with a lighter touch for the piano especially considering tht the guitar seemed to be more of an equal improvising participant rather than a form of accompaniment!! This sort of a jam might drive purists and an audience away.. it demonstrates great technique and authority but the dynamics and musicianship seemed a little wayward at places.
I'd love to take lessons from a pianist like you though.. :)
Did you consider reording equipment. I bet you it sounded just fine the them when they were playing it, but the sound balance wasnt quite the same when it was recorded.
blues even though are the roots of jazz, (well rag is) doesnt necessarily need to sound blues, or use the blues scale. theres heaps of jazz scales out there o.o
guitar wasnt necessary lol. try some call and response or something. didnt quite fit in.
but i gotta say i love the technical work ahaaaa super eye candy indeed hehe. (but hey you play jazz a hell lot better than i do)
you know folks will tear you up on this site. there are few hardcore jazzers lingering around here. Some are pros and have forgotten that most here are still students. I must say--the jazz peeps are much kinder than the classical pianists on youtube--they get downright nasty. ha ha ha
This was nice, I'd call it closer to free form jazz with a touch of blues influence. Shame the guitar covers up what you are doing more than adds to it.
Sure, he can do whatever he wants when he's improvising, but that does not make it blues or jazz. He has tremendous technical skill, but the musicality did not really reflect the core sound of solid blues for and it was too classical sounding to reflect freeform jazz. That's just the way it is.
i've never heard a "blues" like that before. what kind is it ? 12 or 16 bars? i'm lost? just curious. might want to check that. i counted 11 in the first chorus, and the second just goes somewhere strange.
wow brilliant stuff i wish i was that good at playing the piano i suck though

dude, where's the blues? don't try to think classical when you are playing jazz/blues. the Liszt glissando was beautiful but didn't really fit.
don't get me wrong--you have great hands--I just can't wait until your playing matures a little.
(I'm not talking out my A$$--I play Jazz/Blues for a living.
