  • Sorry Ukfolkrocker, Bruce Rowland couldn't be the "official" drummer at that time, simply beacuse... Fairport didn't exist at that time. They split in 1979 and they used to regroup occasionally in Cropredy in summer, whatever line up had the chance to regroup. They officially regrouped only in 1985 as a threesome (Nicol, Pegg & Mattacks).

That's true, of course, that the two drummers are Mattacks & Rowland.

  • Great song.

  • i love it:):)one of my fav fairport songs ever!!

  • AH !! memories of this song

  • "the greatest folk-rock band of all time"from the program of the concert at Heusdem(Belgium),23 aout 1985.I was there.I'm an ultra fan of all the English folk-rock,and the first was Fairport Convention with the genious Ashley Hutchings! After the marvellous Steeleye Span, all the Albion band, all the work of Ashley.I have see Fairport,Steeleye and Albion. But here in Belgium......NOTHING about!!!

  • blast from the good times

  • They did do "Polly on the Shore". It was released in 1983 on a live cassette entitled "AT-2".

  • I think this is one of the best pieces Fairport Convention ever wrote

  • Walk Awhile just happens to be my favorite Song of All Time. : )

  • Mad..bad.. and brilliant to know!

    Jim

  • I love that band ad aeternum! From México (B-p), hilsen!

  • SICKEST LINE-UP!!! HOTTEM

  • i think swarb has the best voice

  • Agreed

  • Swarbrick has the most unique voice, but Nicol has the best voice!!!

  • agreed

  • Didn't this line-up record 'Polly on the shore' at

This gig? Removed ages ago...Anyone have it or

Know what performance I mean or what DVD it's

    On?Thanks in advance,people...

  • I don't think it's the same gig. The clip you refer to is from a VHS that was released back in the 80's I think it's called "It All Comes Round Again". Don't know if it was ever released on DVD. I have a dub of the original VHS.

  • Totally amazing....

  • R.I.P Trevor

  • What an odd line-up! The Rising for the Moon Band, less Sandy, plus Simon!..great mix..thank-you.

  • What can anyone say. Only being at Cropredy could be better, I reckon.

  • Bruce Rowland on drums there.

  • A great song is to stay trough ages!

  • Swarb, you are great. There's no way that's Dave Mattacks on drums. No idea who it is! Anyone know?

  • Hi paulgod,

I can see why you may have missed seeing Dave Mattacks, there are two drummers, Dave is on the left looking cool and wearing shades. Due to camera angles he is only seen briefly. The drummer seen mostly is Bruce Rowland the 'official' Fairport drummer at the time, though Dave often guested around this time.

If you look for other clips I have posted from this show I expect you will better a better view of Dave :-)

  • Thanks ukfolkrocker, guess it must have simply a unique reunion gig type of lineup. I once played in a set with two drummers actually, I did the fiddle part for 'Led Zeppelin - Kashmir'. What a concert! I suppose we needed the two drummers was to compensate for the lack of Jon Bonham :)

P.S. you are not the chap in your picture ;)

  • well Richard could have posted it :-)

but you're right I hadn't noticed my picture

I have hopefully stopped impersonating RT now

  • @paulgod two normal drummers = john bonham? You are so right there, very well put.

  • @paulgod Bruce Rowland

  • Fantastic! Thanks for posting!

  • Good to see some clips of Bruce Rowland (no longer playing) and Trevor Lucas (passed away, way too young sadly) in action. Great clip!

  • last i heard, BR was a chinese herbalist... is that right?

  • Splendid stuff! Thanks for this.

  • Thanks! anymore?

  • Fantastic footage - thanks!

  • most agreeable
