@0311lones Kiai, it's basically as you say an exhalation. In terms of the word KI, it means spirit. Ai means meeting, joining, or together. In a Japanese dictionary, kiai can just mean fight, or just ahh, or just even an enthusiastic hit, with the heart. Martial Art terminology is as unknown to the Japanese as it is to Westerners. There4 asking a Japanese person is equally pointless. As we see from the vid, if you want a meeting of spirit, it should be in terms of at least, a fist to the face.

I'm a CMA practitioner and enjoy traditional training but c'mon man, there's no magic in martial arts. Train power, distance, timing and footwork (as realistically as possible) to gain real skill...too many guys like this have given martial arts a bad name.
