But you should be aware of the circumstances: Sweden hade one day less rest before this match, they had played extra time in the QF which was both mentally and physically exhausting. And they also had their key mitfielder Stefan Schwarz suspended. And both Thern and Dahlin was slightly injuried. If Sweden had beaten Romania in regular time, then this would have been a completly different game.

it is a total joke romario was voted best player of this wc. he missed an unbeliavable chance in this game and also in the final against italy. 3 of his goals were in the groupstage. the goal against holland didn't decide the game, it was brancos. roberto baggio was 1000 times more important, he really won all ko-games for italy by himself, and he didn't waste his chances like romario.
Romario is the greatest striker of all time(only second to Pelé, but Pelé actually doesn't count). The man scored over 1000 goals in his carreer. I'm pretty sure Baggio(wich was great) didn't scored half of it. Its not fair to base on these 2 lost chances... the 94' Brazilian team was average without Romario.

Boy was i wrong, I had this mistaken memory for over 16 years of gutsy Sweden being defeated by Brazil due to a man down injured. It turned out that it was a red card. It wasnt the most malicious of tackles though, we have seen lotsa worse. What a classic one sided affair. Fantastic match.

Well yes, Brazil was the greatest team with the best players. That is why defence with counter attacks were the best option for us swedes. Sweden came behind brazil in the group stage then defeated Saudi Arabia 3-1 and Romania after a tough penaltygame. Sweden played pretty well, but you brazilians were to tough in the semis. So a passive tactic game were the best.

Larson has kelpt himself in shape and played in a high level for so many years. I remember he actually played against Brazil in the 1994 WC in USA, when he was still very young with dreadlocks, very impressive !

I still think Mazinho hasn't got enough stick for his miss on the follow-up to Patrik Andersson's block on Romario in the first half. The goal is wide-open, but he gets overexcited and draws it wide. It felt bad for us to lose, conceding the goal with just 10 min left after a harsh red, but looking at the first half 0-1 was a flattering scoreline for Sweden... Great clip.

Sweden also had many players injured when they lost against Brazil in the semis. In the group when they met Sweden did'nt have any players injured and it was a draw. The only match Brazil did'nt won that year.

If Sweden wants to advance longer than a 1/8 final in the future they have to shoot every time they have a chance. It was the way Germany played in 2006 and they socred more goals than any other team during the tournament.
Not the best performance from the swedish team, but they had played an excruciating quarter-final against Romania, were extremely tired and couldn't put up a fight.....and besides, losing 1-0 against a superb brazilian side isn't that bad :)

I recall that only one was better, according to FIFA, since Ravelli was in the reserves of the world team, only Preud'Homme of belgium was considered better...
In 90% of the cases, South american teams have to accept FIFA's decision to put a european referee when their team is facing a european counterpart in the world cup. Last year only Germany faced Argentina in the quarterfinals and the ref came from slovakia and had a german mother! And when Argentina asked for a neutral referee (an asian or an african for example), they were denied by FIFA as usual. So it's not surprising that the ref in that game was so much in favour of Germany.
@neverminddy ye sure i guess god provided with that red card that made the match look like it did. If you check the group match back then sweden attacked brazil and scored the first goal. They where missing some key players in this match and had as i told a red card against them. 10 vs 11 isnt easy ofc you have to play defensive and hope to counter with some counterattacks now and then.
@Mannewenz at that time Brazil wasn´t playing well, Rai was still in the main team, after that game he was sent to the bench. Brazil improved their game since the game against USA.

Ábout the Brazil match, was the difference really as big as in this video ?. I can't remember the match very vividly. Cross my heart, I have a close Brazilian friend that's basically neighbours with Carlos Dunga and Dunga said that Sweden were very tough to face.
I still remember this game very well, I was 14. Sweden was tough because they played solid defense. Notice all the guys in white behind the ball. But it was a surprisingly one-sided match, one would never expect a team to be so dominant in a semi-final like Brazil was.

Sweden also had many players injured when they lost against Brazil in the semis. In the group when they met Sweden did'nt have any players injured and it was a draw. The only match Brazil did'nt won that year.

We Swedes will probably never experience such a performance as the one that our team made in USA 1994.
If Sweden wants to advance longer than a 1/8 final in the future they have to shoot every time they have a chance. It was the way Germany played in 2006 and they socred more goals than any other team during the tournament.

Not the best performance from the swedish team, but they had played an excruciating quarter-final against Romania, were extremely tired and couldn't put up a fight.....and besides, losing 1-0 against a superb brazilian side isn't that bad :)

after the great performance in the preliminaries (1:1 thanks to a brilliant K. Andersson goal) I expected much more of Sweden in that semifinal re-match... actually, Brazil played cat and mouse with them...but I wonder though if all those mulatoes and mestizes had finally surrendered if Sweden had played with full strength until the end...what a dreadful and stupid foul by Jonas Thern, who had already been booked, when there was so much at stake!

I think Brazilian football players are the most talented, but the ugliest ones as well! Just think of Emerson and Dani Alves, I can hardly contain to vomit whenever I see them. It´s a personal dislike and has nothing to do with any Nazi bullshit, you stupid little bastard!

it definetely was a mistake from FIFA or whoever takes care of the refering at the WC games to get a colombian one for that game.
but still, you can't blame it all on the ref. brasil played way much better and had many
oportunities to score. it easily could have been 5-0 to brasil.
1'08, 2'08, 3'23, 7'47(the 1-0 goal,) 9'14 and at least four other goal chances as you can see on the video.
bebeto + romario = ownage.

In 90% of the cases, South american teams have to accept FIFA's decision to put a european referee when their team is facing a european counterpart in the world cup. Last year only Germany faced Argentina in the quarterfinals and the ref came from slovakia and had a german mother! And when Argentina asked for a neutral referee (an asian or an african for example), they were denied by FIFA as usual. So it's not surprising that the ref in that game was so much in favour of Germany.

@neverminddy ye sure i guess god provided with that red card that made the match look like it did. If you check the group match back then sweden attacked brazil and scored the first goal. They where missing some key players in this match and had as i told a red card against them. 10 vs 11 isnt easy ofc you have to play defensive and hope to counter with some counterattacks now and then.

About the red card, you gotta agree it was fair, it was sweden´s player fault... He deserved the punishment...

Romario's goal is unforgettable, that jump's height is just as unbelievable as WHO he won that jump, i mean any swedish were at least 15 or 20 cm (6" to 8") taller than he and still he won the jump and made a fantastic header goal, unforgettable!!

Any team that gets a WC bronze is not average, what an idiotic comment. It wasn't a team stacked of stars but they had some very solid players. Just search for other videos of this squad, and it's obvious.
Ábout the Brazil match, was the difference really as big as in this video ?. I can't remember the match very vividly. Cross my heart, I have a close Brazilian friend that's basically neighbours with Carlos Dunga and Dunga said that Sweden were very tough to face.

I still remember this game very well, I was 14. Sweden was tough because they played solid defense. Notice all the guys in white behind the ball. But it was a surprisingly one-sided match, one would never expect a team to be so dominant in a semi-final like Brazil was.
