It's always amazed me that this was at the BEGINNING of bebop. It's one of the greatest tunes in the history of music, and it's a 3 minute tune at the front edge of a HUGE wave. I'm awed by the fact that I just got to listen to it on a 78, even if it's one step removed.

..and Big Sid was the drummer of choice, the first to make the transition from traditional to bebop. Sadly, Big Sid died only 6 years after this seminal session at age 41. What the jazz world missed out on!
