@5:45 My rear rotors did not come off easily. Even after I broke the rotor free the parking brake shoes were still gripping the inside walls pretty hard (parking brake was not set, btw). Not sure if that tension can be released before pulling the rotors off.
@johnmacfarlane3d If I remember correctly there should be a a little toothed wheel you can crank to release them similar to drum brakes. I may be wrong though. You could also add a little heat with a propane torch if needed.
I have a Nissan Xtrail - this video is perfect fro xtrail as well.
I have unrelated question: 4x4 warning light came on and is now always on - I changed the break switch 9just in case) - no luck, I checked the wiring only next to the transition box (looks ok). Any idea or suggestion? I took it to a Nissan dealer. They said that they don't have the correct equipment to test a 2001 model!! Disappointing.
If you remove the cap on the brake-fluid reservoir before depressing the piston , it's easier to clamp it without putting extra strain on the brake-system.
@Johnnysshop i have a problem taking off my rotor off a toyota highlander 2004. is there emergency brake or any kind of parts that are connected to the rotor at all, because when stepped on the brake the rotor won't move ?. i've used 2 screws to screw in the 2 holes but still won't come off. Please help, thanks
@freddyblack2003 You would need to fix the leak first and that depends on where it's leaking from. More than likely it's boots on the caliper. Once that's done, bleed them.
Thanks for showing step by step on how to do this. Can I ask what's the size of the C-Clamp that you were using? Is 8" enough for this kind of job? I am thinking doing this on my 06 Altima. Thank you!
Thanks for the play by play on how to do this job. I just finished changing front and back rotors and pads on my 2003 Altima using your instruction with total success. Doing this at home with your video as an aid ended up saving me $350.00. My buddy gave me a good deal on the new factory parts which came to $250. The estimate with labour at a mechanic was $600.00. You now have a friend in Vancouver Canada. Thanks again, -James.
Also, if the rotor does not come off with a little banging on the front, there is an adjustment dial inside the drum that will help. Adjust it upward with a flat head screwdriver to loosen the emergency brake pads inside.
I have recently noticed a grinding noise when stopping in my car. I told my brother in law he said it would be the break pads. I rely didn't want to go to a mechanic since im good with car repairs, but haven't done break pads before. Im going to do it tomorrow thanks for the vid i now know what to do.
if your keeping your niss. use factory rec. brakes (50.00$) at napa and dont forget to add break sqeak stop on the calipers or back of break pad...u did mention your wife heard a sqeak and u might as well clean rust of caliper where it pushes on back of break pad towards rotor.
OMG thanks so much for this video!!! I am getting ready to do the rear brakes on my Nissan Altima and the guy at the Auto Zone told me he would strongly recommend that I do not take on the job alone if it is my first time. Well, after having watched this, I think it will be a piece of cake. I'm totally confident about it now! I'm just gonna watch this video and pause between each step as I go :)
Great vid. Thanks

Should you bleed the brakes/calipers every time you change the brakes??
ajgree6 1 month ago
@ajgree6 No, only if you replace a caliper or have to remove a brake line.

@tchhom Is it on the rear? If so, yes there is a e-brake. Could be stuck on the lip of the rotor. Smack it a few times.
