  • Great vid. Thanks

  • @MarctheBarberNYC Thanks for watching!

  • @5:45 My rear rotors did not come off easily. Even after I broke the rotor free the parking brake shoes were still gripping the inside walls pretty hard (parking brake was not set, btw). Not sure if that tension can be released before pulling the rotors off.

  • @johnmacfarlane3d If I remember correctly there should be a a little toothed wheel you can crank to release them similar to drum brakes. I may be wrong though. You could also add a little heat with a propane torch if needed.

  • Should you bleed the brakes/calipers every time you change the brakes??

  • @ajgree6 No, only if you replace a caliper or have to remove a brake line.

  • I need help with a video on how to replace rear rotors on a 2001 hyundai santa fe.

  • @adethequeen Should be similar, wish I had Hyundai to show ya.

  • Hi Johnny,

I have a Nissan Xtrail - this video is perfect fro xtrail as well.

I have unrelated question: 4x4 warning light came on and is now always on - I changed the break switch 9just in case) - no luck, I checked the wiring only next to the transition box (looks ok). Any idea or suggestion? I took it to a Nissan dealer. They said that they don't have the correct equipment to test a 2001 model!! Disappointing.

    Cheers, M - Scotland - UK

  • @mjgf1 Wish I could help ya but I would say it could be a relay or is that what you already changed?

  • If you remove the cap on the brake-fluid reservoir before depressing the piston , it's easier to clamp it without putting extra strain on the brake-system.

  • @swompdogg7 True. Just make sure it's not full = Mess

  • I CAN'T GET MY ROTOR OFF. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  • @nyymarisfan Have you tried to spray some penetrating liquid on the hubs/bolts?

  • @nyymarisfan i had the same problem just kick it hahah or use a mallot

  • gracias amigo esto me ayudo mucho .

  • gracias amigo esto me ayodo mucho .

  • My rotors were a pain in the ass to take off I had to use a hammer to take them off

  • @SPANKY714AHM Sometimes that get rusted on and yes it sucks.

  • @CAT5230EXCAVATOR You might want to check the flux capacitor. lol.. Thanks!

  • ok i have a 96 nissan maxima will it be more or less difficult to install new brakes comparing it to this video

  • @Brendaspaperclip Should be just about the same.

  • @Johnnysshop i have a problem taking off my rotor off a toyota highlander 2004. is there emergency brake or any kind of parts that are connected to the rotor at all, because when stepped on the brake the rotor won't move ?. i've used 2 screws to screw in the 2 holes but still won't come off. Please help, thanks

  • @tchhom Is it on the rear? If so, yes there is a e-brake. Could be stuck on the lip of the rotor. Smack it a few times.

  • this video is very helpful, i have a 2004 jeep liberty and i'd like to change the rear brakes and rotors. can i do the same procedure?..thanks!

  • @tyny0106 Yes, very similiar. I changed them on a Liberty not too long ago for a girl at work. Actually a little easier.

  • @Johnnysshop thanks!!, that was very helpful. you are awesome!

  • @tyny0106 Thanks!

  • My brake leak a little do i have to bleed them

  • @freddyblack2003 You would need to fix the leak first and that depends on where it's leaking from. More than likely it's boots on the caliper. Once that's done, bleed them.

  • thank you...you make it look easy....don't apologize so much, teh video is great!

  • @MrBobguy49 Thanks! Yeah, I'll try not to.

  • Thanks for showing step by step on how to do this. Can I ask what's the size of the C-Clamp that you were using? Is 8" enough for this kind of job? I am thinking doing this on my 06 Altima. Thank you!

  • @99582795 8 inch will be fine.

  • thank you so much

  • @icela0425 Thanks for watching!

  • @Johnnysshop thanks! you have been very very helpful.

  • @robbieyh Thanks!

  • Thanks for the play by play on how to do this job. I just finished changing front and back rotors and pads on my 2003 Altima using your instruction with total success. Doing this at home with your video as an aid ended up saving me $350.00. My buddy gave me a good deal on the new factory parts which came to $250. The estimate with labour at a mechanic was $600.00. You now have a friend in Vancouver Canada. Thanks again, -James.

  • @jamesthejerk1 Awesome, glad I could help! I love success stories. Thanks again, James!

  • Also, if the rotor does not come off with a little banging on the front, there is an adjustment dial inside the drum that will help. Adjust it upward with a flat head screwdriver to loosen the emergency brake pads inside.

  • @dmalott0908 True

  • Nice vid.

I have recently noticed a grinding noise when stopping in my car. I told my brother in law he said it would be the break pads. I rely didn't want to go to a mechanic since im good with car repairs, but haven't done break pads before. Im going to do it tomorrow thanks for the vid i now know what to do.

  • @headbop01 I appreciate the feedback and good luck!

  • cool

  • if your keeping your niss. use factory rec. brakes (50.00$) at napa and dont forget to add break sqeak stop on the calipers or back of break pad...u did mention your wife heard a sqeak and u might as well clean rust of caliper where it pushes on back of break pad towards rotor.

  • @dd18614 It was a lease, I was ready to turn it in about a week before this video. Had we not, I might have put some more into it.

  • great video! thanks for saving me a few hundred bucks

  • @bmangat1 Thanks, glad I could help!

  • OMG thanks so much for this video!!! I am getting ready to do the rear brakes on my Nissan Altima and the guy at the Auto Zone told me he would strongly recommend that I do not take on the job alone if it is my first time. Well, after having watched this, I think it will be a piece of cake. I'm totally confident about it now! I'm just gonna watch this video and pause between each step as I go :)

  • @gardogg65 Glad I could help. Let me know how it goes!
