Hicks was great, very great. Leary is great too. Just have a look at the last part of this interview: Bullz-eye "a chat with denis leary" by Will Harris, 06/16/2008 (you can find it easily in internet, but I can't write the link). Is so ridicoulus? Or what he said can be the truth? Just ask yourself.
Leary often says things that many people do not want to hear, or or that many people do not like, in a in a country too often moralistic and sanctimonious. So Leary is "awkward comedy"... For his black humor and fierce sarcasm. But, how I had already says, US need more people like him. He is a nonconformist. That's all.
Leary is the biggest THIEF and still sucks. The only thing he can do is steal because he doesn't have an ounce of talent. You hear Bill Hicks speak it sounds like it is from the heart.
You hear Leary and it sounds like a BAD actor.
Cause that is all he is a bad actor hack. He will never be an artist.
"No Cure For Cancer" was the reason Bill Hicks got pancreatic cancer. He was so pissed that Leary stole his jokes that it stressed his pancreas causing him to feel weak and give him cancer. So Denis Leary is responsible for Bill Hicks' death because of the jokes Leary stole. I am not surprised Leary stole jokes from Greg Giraldo too. Leary hated Giraldo.
Hicks was huge in the UK at the time but not really in the States outside the comedy club circuit so Leary was thinking nobody would catch on to any of this, after Bill died however his stock started to rise in the States and a lot of his old material became really popular, and well, Leary looked like a dickhead to those that had seen "his" material.

Only concerning curiousity in observation: I see more ilk-similarities btwn Kinison and Hicks. Kinison and Hicks sound like brothers or cousins w/ similar vocal auras (southern inflections & raw "preaching" style)... also, they both used dark, demonic, searing screams. Hicks: "Suckers of Satan's Cock" roars, the Leno bit, the Hendrix buzz-saw bit,,, all having stark similarities to Kinison's roar but both are unique and powerful as individuals.. In my opnion, about the Barry Manilo part, Leary was paying a respectful homage to Bill Hicks. Leary made that joke funny with the Yoko Ono/John Lennon part so that's completely legit. The Barry Manilo was quick and at the end, after most of the funny parts as to not steal the joke.

I don't get this whole Bill Hicks-as-comedy-genius-innovator thing. The guy got on stage and told a few jokes and made a few sharp observations, just like plenty of others before him. But if you're looking for belly laughs, sorry, Bill is not your man. You could take 30 Bill Hicks routines and still not come up with anything half as funny as 15 minutes worth of Richard Pryor. Comedians lift from each other all the time. I'm sure Saint Bill did it himself, regardless of what his apostles think.

And second they didn't feed off one another, if you'd studied the back story of their friendship you'd know Bill Hicks had orginally shrugged of the similarities. It was only when he saw Leary's 'No Cure for Cancer' performance that the plagerism accusations were made (and rightly so in my opinion).

Maybe there's something I'm missing here, but I'm not seeing where Denis Leary STOLE anything! Well yeah, sure, maybe Leary listened to this guy -- what's his name, Bill Hicks or something? -- and made some comments on the same person or topic. So have about a hundred thousand other comedians! In my opnion, about the Barry Manilo part, Leary was paying a respectful homage to Bill Hicks. Leary made that joke funny with the Yoko Ono/John Lennon part so that's completely legit. The Barry Manilo was quick and at the end, after most of the funny parts as to not steal the joke.

I don't get this whole Bill Hicks-as-comedy-genius-innovator thing. The guy got on stage and told a few jokes and made a few sharp observations, just like plenty of others before him. But if you're looking for belly laughs, sorry, Bill is not your man. You could take 30 Bill Hicks routines and still not come up with anything half as funny as 15 minutes worth of Richard Pryor. Comedians lift from each other all the time. I'm sure Saint Bill did it himself, regardless of what his apostles think.

He does not copy the other comedian word for word, he just happens to have a few things that are the same topic. This would imply that every joke ever made in history is stolen from someone else.
