This guy was blatently honest and he seems to have turned his life around. A bad call by her in my opinion, but as far as legality is concerned, the 12 month visa limit for jail sentences still applies. Grounds for compassion is a difficult one to call when offering leniency. It's true you can't base it off emotion, but willingness to rehabilitate oneself should be taken into account in these cases.
Listen to his confession at 2:14 honest and true, and then listen to her description of what he confessed at 4:16 and you can make your own mind up from here.
I woner if they can get any info before leaving NZ...Seems a shame to pay to get somewhere only to turn around and go back.... seems a descent Dude...

The Hazāra (Persian: هزاره) are a Persian-speaking people who mainly live in central Afghanistan. They are overwhelmingly Shia Muslims and comprise the third largest ethnic group of Afghanistan,[6][7][8] forming about 18%[9] of the total population.[1][10] Over half a million Hazaras live in neighboring Pakistan (especially in the city of Quetta) and a similar number in Iran.
18% is not a majority, and therefore it is not useful to say that a country as a whole speaks a language that is not represented by a majority. On the other hand, Persian is the majority language of Iran without a doubt.
You ARE correct that Persian is spoken in Afghanistan, and it is indeed the national language. However, this language is known as Dari, and not often referred to as Farsi.
Additionally, Ethnologue categorises Dari and Iranian Persian as two different languages.
She done her job correctly and well done to her for it. All these idiots below seem to forget that the woman's job is to ensure the safety of Australia's citizens by keeping out those they cannot guarantee will behave. And the convict past, do your reading, you'll find the ratio of convicts to free settlers was extremely minimal.
australia was a fucking jail motherfuckers children of convicts english telling native people son of soil cant enter their country deport all white english to fucking cold rainy shit europe.
Oh man let that guy in the country man. He's obviously sorry for what he did, he seems almost ashamed to tell the stories. He wasn't gonna cause a ruckus when he was at the party, let him go.
Crazy! He serverd his time. The old served crime should be ignored. That was 1994! Those women have too much power.
One thing though.....he is an idiot to expect to come into Australia still looking like a crim.....get rid of the beard, grow some hair and cover the tatts...that can help too when faced with very straight laced people making decisions on your future.
One thing that must be said, NZ criminals seem to be really nice guys! I do feel sorry for this guy because he was flat out honest, but the 12 month thing was the problem and thats how it goes. If I was the officer I wouldn't have let him in either so she did her job perfectly well in my opinion.
@mrbollocks1979 Canada is even stricter, a single conviction (no matter how minor, even if you weren't sentenced to a prison term) will indefinitely disqualify you for a visa and there is absolutely no discretion on the part of immigration. That said, unlike Australia where exclusion is for life, there is a way you can regain eligibility after 5-10 years have passed.
By comparison, in the US our threshold is 5 years combined prison term.
fuck that immigration office, fucking fat bitch with a cunty face, she granted a visa to another kiwi who also has a criminal record, she was flirting with him, wtf with this decisions cant be made on emotions, what a load of tosh, she made decisions on guys' cocks
