Is there any particular technique for breaking in one of these holsters? I got mine today and I was amazed at how tight it is. I'm trying to find a technique for putting the gun (Kimber Ultra Raptor) into the holster without moving the slide. Until it is broken in, I am not too nuts about carrying it.
@originaisdosamba CCP CONCEALED CARRY PADDLE CCP212B, right hand. The model is easy enough to use, but it really does well if you do a lot of driving (sitting). I believe thay offer the CCP for many pistol models.
that pistol looks huge for your body size, how tall are you? (im planning to everyday carry a fullsize polymer and i was wondering if that is possible)
@pericode3huevos The 1911 in the video is a full-sized pistol. I'm 6'0" tall and avgerage build. The 1911 is large pistol for CCW, which is why most people cannot pull it off (not that I did in the video either), but this reviews focus was on the holster. Thanks for watching.
I am trying to decide between the paddle or belt kind of Galco for my Ruger LCR. I am female so I don't always wear a belt and thought the paddle would still allow me to carry my weapon. Is this true, or do you still need the belt? Also, is the paddle portion so thick that I would have to move up in size in pants? Thanks for any help everyone.
@Mandy7D7 IMO I haven't found a paddle or belt holster that works consistently without using a belt. I recommend you wear a belt with this holster style, unless it specifically sates it doesn't require one, or use an alternate carry style (belly band, pocket, purse, ankle, etc.).
I have not needed to adjust my wardrobe to carry concealed, with the exception of inside the waistband (IWB) holsters. Good luck & be safe.
Thanks for the help OM. I went with the Paddle holster but also an ankle holster for the days I don't have a belt as you suggested. I've decided not to carry in my purse as I am paranoid of my purse being stolen allowing a thief access to my gun. Thanks again for your video and suggestions, it was helpful!
That vest isn't nearly long enough to conceal properly. Go ahead, fix your collar in the mirror,,, oops the barrel sticks out doesn't it. Not so awesome. Maybe keep that as a winter carry so u can have bulkier items covering better. Also its quite easy to see the unnatural difference with that under your vest. Not looking to piss ya off but people DO call the police when they see what they think is a gun.
I am getting a Galco PLE224B paddle holster. This is my first holster for my Glock 22. Do you have any recommendations for break-in or just overall handling of the rig? Ordering online can be deceiving as you can't actually get the feel of the holster prior to buying.
Excellent review. I disagree with miamicanesfan01 however as to the 1911 being unsuitable for concealed carry. As this review demonstrates, with proper holster selection and concealment garments, a 1911 is very concealable.
The same reason you use two different techniques to return the slide into battery after slide lock, in your videos - personal preference.
There is no harm in checking an empty chamber more than once. Perhaps (on rare occasions) there maybe an empty chamber with a full magazine. Doing a single quick check may only verify the open and empty chamber, and actually chamber a round - hypothetically speaking.
Your telling me. I find my self checking it two to three times when i pick up my gun ( Even when i know for sure it's unloaded) I check it again before i insert a mag into the mag well. I also check to insure the firing pin is not sticking out. safety comes first. When that bullet goes down the barrel that's it. No one gives a damn if your sorry if you kill someone due to unsafe gun handling.
@OrbitalMechanics Fair enough. As I watch the video again, the action is performed very quickly, without looking into the chamber, so it doesn't look like there is any visual inspection of the chamber. If the extractor were broken, you could cycle the slide a hundred times and it would still have a round chambered. I guess that's what I'm trying to say, pull the slide, look in the chamber, and close the slide. The rack-rack-rack is more like a type 3 malfunction drill, than a chamber check.
Very Informative. I received one (among Many holsters) when I purchased a used Wilson KZ45 Being in a wheelchair the crossdraw is pretty much my only choice with the .45. Very easily accesible as you demonstrated. My Galco is broken in pretty well which makes it easier. Thanks for the info on the crossdraw as most info is hard to find. Sincerely, JAMES.
im in a wheelchair myelf and im thinking of getting a .45 does the recoil kick your chair back im just trying to get an idea on how high of a calliber i can safely handle
Hello. I use the "crossdraw" style holster which is best as I am in the seated position. Very easy and fast draw. I do not carry a .45 but I do not think the recoil would be an issue. I carry a glock 19 9mm and also a Smith & Wesson model 442 J frame 5 shot snub nose revolver -38 special. I think the revolver is the best as far as reliability is concerned - although the glock I carry has been modified with a Hogue wrap around rubber grip which aids me in grabbing & fast draws. Sincerely, JAMES.
I'm in a wheelchair and have been most of my life. I have Osteogenisis Imperfect brittle bones. I just bought this holster for my Sig P229 Equinox .40. It's perfect in the extreme crossdraw position. I'm extremely fast with the draw this way. Caliber should be determined based on your comfort level, wrist strength etc. A .45 will not move your wheelchair. I also have a Glock 27 .40 which is very small and painful to shoot which is why I moved to a larger gun.

Which model of Galco's holster? Find it easy this model? Serves only for the Colt 1911 pistol and its clones. Thanks.

That firearm is way to big for concealed carry. It is almost the size of your entire chest. I would go with a Glock 26 or similar.

The main advantage for this holster is for seated carry. Thanks for watching.

@miamicanesfan01 I disagree. Lots of people carry 1911's concealed.

I think if you use a good (two layered) 1.5" belt it will fit tighter to your body. It looks like you are using a basic 1.25" belt.
ajgranda 2 years ago
Belt is a Galco 1.5" CSB7, although I probably could have tightened it another notch.

Why do people do that move, where they rack the gun 4 or 5 times to "clear" it. Pull back the slide, look at the chamber, ease the slide forward.

Fouling from gasses and powder can cause a live round to stick in the chamber

Because, taking a few extra seconds to be extra sure is worth more than ending up in a hospital because you 'thought' it was empty.

Yeah... this is not the holster to try and hide a full-size 1911. Its real appeal is in the seated position. Thanks for watching.

If you lock your chair and have a good hold with a slight forward lean, you should be ok.
