@WorldTurnBlack also of note... most diabetics that exercise are finding it's NOT good to exercise with nothing to eat/drink. Whatever metabolic advantage that might exist for some people is offset by the disadvantage of glucose spikes that we receive.
If you want to exercise as a Type II diabetic - drop the carbs so low you're into ketosis. For me it took about 2 weeks of ketosis dieting before I felt good enough to exercise vigorously, but it worked great for my bg levels.
@WorldTurnBlack Mine did that too, until I got myself into ketosis. Once you have reduced your glycogen stores you can exercise fairly hard (you'll burn fat instead of glycogen), and unless you eat ridiculous amounts of protein you likely will not be able to create enough glucose (via gluconeogenesis) to spike you during exercise.
That's my experience, and that of a few others on diabetesforum ... but everyone is different.
Want to control diabetes? Drop the carbs, especially refined carbs/sugars. Even Type I diabetics are starting to experience the same insulin-resistance as TypeII's now - most research is showing this to be likely the result of a diet high in refined carbs.
Unfortunately nutritionists tell Type I's they can eat anything and just bolus insulin, which isn't true for long-term health.
@AlbertaBeefy What you say is only marginally helpful. The reason is your body can only use glucose to make ATP in the Kerbs, or citric acid, cycle. So everything you eat turns to sugar. Even protein. Most of the time protein is broken down into amino acids but if your body needs glucose it will convert the amino acids into glucose. The only way to control diabetes with diet is to not eat. And that is how it was done before Banting and Best isolated insulin.
@sanity599 hey sanity, I can assure you as a Type II diabetic that has been researching for some time that AlbertaBeefy IS correct.
It sounds like you know well enough to realize the krebs cycle is broken during ketosis.
As such, eating very low-carb does absolutely improve glucose control.
Also, most americans are taking in as much as 60% + calories from carb and only 10% from protein. If you lower carbs there's not enough protein to really increase glucose via gluconeogenesis.
@LCHFinCanada You are correct when you go into ketosis you body used ketones to make ATP. But you run the very real risk of going into ketoacidosis. This can cause heart attack, kidney failure an edema on the brain. As well as changing the PH of you blood and just killing you outright. It doesn't happen to everybody but it does happen.
It is a way to treat diabetes but it does have dangers.
@sanity599 By the way I really don't need Dr. Bernstein's book. My brother in law used to head the diabetes department at NIH. And I used to practice many years ago.
@sanity599 BTW, Dr. Richard K. Bernstein - in his book the Diabetes Solution - details all of this and has shown it's effectiveness on literally THOUSANDS of diabetic patients, dropping them to NORMAL blood glucose levels.
You can also visit diabetesforum on the internet and hear from the THOUSANDS of diabetics who control their diabetes with diet, many of which no longer need insulin or some of the harmful blood-glucose-lowering meds.
@LCHFinCanada You are assuming all type 2 diabetics have it form the same source. I had cancer. A year before I had cancer I had a physical and I wasn't even prediabetic. But after the chemo I am unresponsive to any treatment. The reason is I got a lot of steroids while on chemo. This shows that diabetes is a complicated disease. Some cases respond to diet and some don't.
sodas, salty carbs are bad. and sugars subs are worse then the sugar itself(well most). try switching to whole grain from white. buy orange juice with calcium. and sugar from fruit is actually good... as long as you are not consuming to much 'artificial sugar' plus all the vitamins the fruit give to help the sugar go thru the body. and Exercise is a must if u want to get rid of the extra carbs and sugar that store and become 'Fat'.
WTF? This is mostly terrible advice. YES, you should stay away from sugar and carbs...but that means sugar and carbs of ANY type...even fruits and fruit juices are bad news. You shouldn't eat low fat yogurt, since fat doesn't affect blood sugar...in fact, you shouldn't be eating ANY yogurt, since it's packed with sugar. Good lord...are you TRYING to kill diabetics? Remember, if you follow the advice in this video, you WILL need that insulin injection...even if you don't now.
apartame are sweeter in diet pop sugarfree gum not good for the body.

So you're incorrect, diet works quite well.
