At the end where it said personally thanking someone for a good job works well, i've come to find that often when someone in authority congratulates you and notices your work, they often see you as hard working and try to see how far they can stretch you rather than simply appreciating your work. besides, the only reason managers do that is because they want you to feel rewarded and therefore work harder. by all means work hard to gain praise, but don't end up being used as a mere tool...
