Wow that's great, it's amazing what you can do with a half billion dollars of the American tax payers money. Tell me, how much did those double page ads in Architectural Digest cost me?
I'm glad my money could create a cool car (built in Finland) for hollywood liberal loons like Leonardo Dicaprio. Tell us Fisker - did you pay Al Gore a consulting fee too?
thats a really good price for a slow low range boring car! i mean you gotta start some where, but i'd say that a top speed of 125, is pretty bad. brilliant idea with the regenerative braking though!
This fake environmentalist-hybrid-designs and the pricky looks of that car juz gimme the creeps. I mean U know the disadvantages of combustion engines right? that they suck at low rpm and come with a load of moving parts...that tend to brake and keep Ur ride in service...Hybrids simply combine all disadvantages of both techs to let U pay more for somethin´ U don´t want or have any use fo. damn ;)
I think I will pass. I dont think just because a car looks a certain way it can be considered a super car... And I love the ending comment about all the money youll save on gas... lol this car is expensive as shit and would be compared to a normal 25k car nowadays... ill pass
50 miles per charge? Are you kidding me? I'm not impressed at all. This car is dwarfed by Tesla motors Roadster and upcoming S-type. They are pure electric and can go up to 300 miles on one charge. Full charge in only 45 minutes, not to mention that Roadster gets from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds.
Its kinda funny the attention this Fisker Karma and Tesla Roadster generates in USA. Mainly, I suspect, because people see them as all "american" supercars. However nobody mentions that this one is built in Finland and the Tesla Roadster is designed and built at the Lotus factory in England based on the Elise. Dodge Circuit too is a re-dressed Lotus.
Long live the internal combustion engine! F*** off with these stupid candy a** hybrids! V8,V10 & V12 FTW!!! F*** it,the only car i'll drive in the future is the one with internal combustion engine powered by hydrogen fuel,NOTHING ELSE! Nuff said...
For being "efficient electric vehicles"...they're not very efficient. 40miles per charge on paper's hardly brilliant, especially when in the real world it's probably half that. And fast driving in this thing? Forget about it. Powering a town would probably use less electricity.
So basically, all Fisker did was put leather on a Chevy Volt and jack the price up by two. You're still 100% dependent on oil. He's no innovator, just a schmuck.
Without a single drop of gas? Hmm... How did the parts arrive at the plant to produce the vehicle? How was the vehicle delivered to the owner? I think not!
@foxa777 Nothing like the Prius: Prius is a parallel hybrid; Karma is a series hybrid. Prius is a hybrid, Karma is a Plug in hybrid that you can recharge and work as all electric for 40+ miles. And finally, the look and size of a Prius !
@foxa777 are you kidding me, copy of Prius? Prius is the taxi, the gay car, the worst of the worsts....Don't even put Fisker with Toyota, too far, too far...
@aga080 aye, 50 mile range on battery alone, then you can add another 200 miles on the ICE before you have to refill the gastank, and continue driving.
Besides, most trips are a lot less than 50 miles on average, so it'll quickly add up. :)
This is the first electric car that makes my heart beat faster.....Compare the smooth lines of the car with the beautiful Maserati Gran Turismo and see how much these cars look alike. If I had the money, I would definitely buy the Fisker.
Fisker is saying that Fisker Automotive will not develop or manufacture any cars. They will outsource everything and only keep design and marketing in-house. But Fisker only has an automobile design company called Fisker Coachbuild. So what is the difference between Fisker Automotive and Fisker Coachbuild?
like it or not this may be a push in the right direction. although i would be hard pressed to spend 80 grand on a car i make parts for.( engine mounts )
It's not a hybrid damnit, it's an EV with a fuel-powered engine serving as a generator. At no point is the fuel-powered engine involved with the driven wheels.
What you have in your head is a parallel hybrid like the Prius, Civic and the like. Which are generally cheaper to produce because of "power sharing" (smaller electric motor+smaller ICE than similar powered series hybrid).
the tesla tech into a car looking like this would have made my dream. I am not impressed by this hybrid crap in the meanwhile, it always seems like a half-solution.
And the specs are amazing. I really like the built in generator giving 100mpg, that is really impressive and a much better solution than jumping to full electric when the infrastructure isn't available yet, nor is immediate charging function at charging stations as lith-ion batteries can't do that on their own.
@eaglesdood16 People keep misusing the term "hybrid" It's only a hybrid if both electric and gas motors drive the car other wise it's an electric car with a gas generator much like a train.
@filiopop101 are u serious?? a car that is nearly fully electric and gets freakin 100 mpg and looks amazing and full of futures! 125 is perfect for an electric car!
@Carrillo17: of course it does (have more torque than a Veyron), though only at low RPMs. An ideal electric motor's torque is 1/rpm. 1/0 is infinity, so an ideal electric motor has infinite torque when stopped. No electric motor is ideal, but it's easy for electric cars to have more torque than internal combustion cars. This is also why the original Tesla Roadster kept breaking the transmissions.
People have the misconception that electric is perfect, don't forget that electricity requires burning coal. The fact is that most electric cars are still basically hybrids with old fashioned gas engines at their heart. And the batteries, they weigh half a ton if not more and recharging is a 6 hour process compared to a 5 minute gas stop. We won't have gas forever but we won't have a realistic alternative any time soon either. The real future is in lightweight efficiency like the smart car.
@NMoulana: electricity does not "require" burning coal, it comes from any number of sources, including burning natural gas, burning oil, or burning coal, but also hydroelectric or nuclear. In some parts of the country, most electricity does come from coal. But so what? The Karma gets more "coal mileage" than a conventional vehicle, because electric cars are twice as efficient. Plus the pollution goes "over there", not into our lungs, and that last is worth billions of dollars.
you guys cant compare this car to the tesla. The tesla is built for something completely different and so is the Karma... this is the future of motoring and its the savior for our gasoline powered cars. if everyone on the road were driving the Tesla it wouldnt make sense b/c our world is built around the car as we know it we drive until the gas depletes, we fill up and drive more with the tesla u drive a few feet and u charge the car over night.. we would go backwards in time.
@ElPumaMex Well this Sporty Luxury electric car, not a Nissan Leaf or Honda's electric car. This car is great to see and maybe to own if you had the money. I was looking a Popular Science magazine and was just amazed that about 1600 customers have preordered the car at 88,000 dollars. Talk about buying a Bmw or Mercedes Benz Luxury cars. Though it is great to see that our future is finding better ways to produce other source of energy for transportation than using fossil fuels.
Henrik fisker didnt invest Li-Ion batteries, and was also not the first one to put them in a car.
It also wasnt his idea to use huge-torque electric motors to power cars.
major flaw in most comments:
the competition for this car is not the tesla roadster, its the tesla model s, which isnt QUITE as beautful, but cheaper, more fuel efficient (0l/100km), and faster.
Video has two big errors: it's not the ultimate status symbol, that's the Veyron they mention (which, btw, costs many times more). And, the 0-60 time is 5.8 seconds only if you turn off electric-only "stealth" mode. In stealth mode it's over 7 seconds.
The bit at the end about "think about what you'll save on gasoline" is just silly. The price is based on car-as-fashion-statement, a la the Jaguar etc that are the Karma's competition.
The error was that they said it did 0-60 in "under six seconds" while "using no gasoline". Got to burn some gasoline to get those times. Not sure why; maybe there's a current limit in the battery system. I believe Fisker uses an EnerDel pack, but I don't know the specs on that pack.
They said "ultimate status symbol" without qualifier. If they had said "ultimate hybrid status symbol", I would be fine with that statement. :-)
Nothing fundamentally wrong with the GM engine; it should last OK given that it's going to run at constant speed, and only when being used as a generator.
I like the Tesla drive system design better overall myself (because internal combustion engines are so klunky), but the limited electric-only range on the Tesla is a problem for me.
So nothing wrong with the GM engine, we both agree then.
You like Tesla because combustion engines are "so klunky"?? People love the sound of IC engines, and that is why sound is being added to the hybrid/electric cars.
so, the car does 100 mpg but costs $88,000 wow that big savings!!!! that is if you car is still running after the amount of years it take to get your investment back.
I think I'm in love. Finally, a car that's green but is still sexy with tons of balls. One of these in navy blue and an electric blue 62 Impala SS (409, dual-quads, dual exhaust, 4 on the floor) and my life will be complete.
I literally lol'd when he said the cars top speed was 125 MPH.

Nice car great designer, but they put GM engine in it Thas real shame... I like this one better than Tesla and its cheaper to

What is so wrong about the GM engine in it?? Are you just saying that out of disdain for anything GM?
ElPumaMex 2 years ago
Nothing fundamentally wrong with the GM engine; it should last OK given that it's going to run at constant speed, and only when being used as a generator.
I like the Tesla drive system design better overall myself (because internal combustion engines are so klunky), but the limited electric-only range on the Tesla is a problem for me.

So nothing wrong with the GM engine, we both agree then.
You like Tesla because combustion engines are "so klunky"?? People love the sound of IC engines, and that is why sound is being added to the hybrid/electric cars.

Amazing car!!
My parents pre-ordered one and they said the base MSRP was $87,900 and that we should receive it from July-August!!!!

so, the car does 100 mpg but costs $88,000 wow that big savings!!!! that is if you car is still running after the amount of years it take to get your investment back.

I think I'm in love. Finally, a car that's green but is still sexy with tons of balls. One of these in navy blue and an electric blue 62 Impala SS (409, dual-quads, dual exhaust, 4 on the floor) and my life will be complete.

Lijkt mij een gave wagen. Past bij deze tijd. Als ik geld heb zodat ik er een kan betalen zou ik de aanschaf overwegen.
