I grew up with a Spectrum and loved it passionately. That said, this is clearly just a quick port from that with a few colours thrown in. When you consider that the original Amiga version was all about ambience and atmosphere, that the spectrum managed to pull off that atmosphere quite well in its little monochrome way and what the Amstrad could have done with this game graphically, it's a bit of a shame the developers didn't put a little more love into it.
It's a shame more developers didn't make use of the CPC 464's 4 colour 320 x 200 mode. As it looks far better than the horrible 16 colour blocky mode that most used. Regardless of the gameplay, the graphics were brilliantly designed.
@mashk cpc games were plagued by conversions from zx spectrum basecode - few cpc games were properly "ported" and a lot of bad ports form zx - what was to be a compatibility feature of the cpc turned out to be its greatest "flaw" - truly a lot of untapped potential in the cpc
@zachthezombie The sound chip is less capable than the C64's but it can make some good tunes. Of course it can! Check out Ghosts 'n' goblins for an example.
The level 1 music in Xyphoe's fantasy is probably my favourite for the CPC.
@Starhawk73 hand held device? Nope. The Amstrad CPC is a series of 8 bit home computers produced by Amstrad during the 1980s and early 1990s. "CPC" stands for 'Colour Personal Computer', although it was possible to purchase a CPC with a green screen (GT64/65) as well as with the standard colour screen (CTM640/644). The Amstrad CPC 464 sold approximatley over 2 million units.

Haha, amercia don't know of my Amstrad CPC.
The curse of this computer was so many games were "Speccy ports" : ports from ZX spectrum, so they lack the colors.
This computer sold well in France, and Spain, yet it was known in Greece, Australia, england, Germany...
Not that bad, the Demoscene is quite good indeed.
Too bad it wasn't sold in USA.

Well, I was a bit perplexed at seeing this version. Could they have made it look any older? Well, there was the C64 version.....
I take it this Amstrad CPC is some sort of hand held device?
Starhawk73 3 years ago
CPC was the same sort of thing as the ZX or C64 but was never released in the US. just don't ask witch out of three comes out on top.
