In my opinion, one thing missing the E350 CDI comparing with the 335d is a twin-turbo. This way is hard for the Mercedes to achieve the BMW performance. I am a Mercedes owner but... I got to give this...
I've tried the 335d and I must say... it's a hell of a machine. With a simple repro has I done on my 350 cdi on the first time, it can easily reach 350hp and over 700Nm. That's more 65Hp than factory specs.
I've just done a 2nd upgrade to my E350 CDI. Two days after acquirement it was on "repro bank" achieving 269hp and 692Nm (origin 231Hp is a complete "under-powered" car).
An year after, not content it was back on "repro bank". This time a bigger job was done. New bigger Turbo; new repro... the outcome... 303Hp. I'm still testing the car but... I'm confident on the further performance.
I think it looks fast to be honest, I would guess just under 7 sec 0-100 km/h. Notice that he doesnt start accelerating fully until @0:12, when hes at 15 km/h.
Not bad acceleration at the beginning, but at higher speeds the engine breaks down. BabkenBMW is right, 530d is somehow much faster, especially at higher speeds.
@MercedesFUN1 why don't you check out the tech specifications on their web pages :) 5.30d, mercedes benz 350, Audi A6 3.0 TDI is the correct order for them to accalerate 0-100km/h ;)
Yes, Mercedes-benz is now saying: "Goodbye BMW and Audi". And do you know why? Because BMW and Audi are far ahead of Mercedes-Benz in the premium market now in terms of sales. And even with 265hp the e350cdi is far behind the 530d
@BabkenBMW When I buy a car, why should it be important how much sales the brand is supposed to achieve? It doesn't matter for me what the majority of the people is saying. I am quite satisfied with MB and according to Audi and BMW I remember rather sad experiences. I had even better experiences with japanese cars.
@BabkenBMW hahhahhahhahhah. Dont put reliable and BMW on the same sentence. My -99 323 1,3 liter mazda will put any BMW to shame if you take reliability in notice. I drive taxi here in finland and we had the E60 520d bmw and it had serious problems. Now we have the new one, lets see how well it holds together. But if it doesnt take 250 000km of beating I consider it a shitty car for its price.
That's why BMW is the clear leader in the premium segment leaving all the rest far behind in terms of sales. Now I ask you the following question: why would people prefer BMW to anything else if BMW was so unreliable? Personally I own a 1997 523i and it's rock solid. So you have your opinion, and I have mine.
@BabkenBMW well they buy it for the status. I think they are good cars to drive, but really they have serious reliability issues (mostly 500 series) and that is not an opinion, its a fact. BMW is not perfect, its not near perfect.... nothing is... its good looking, good to drive but expensive and unreliable.
I don't think the acceleration is better than 530d or A6 3.0 TDI.
My 325d with 197 HP is even faster from acceleration point of view.
But in overall view, E Class is very excellent car, like it very much.

you should have put the sport mode from the start...not at 130 km/h...that's why it is so slow...

@BabkenBMW At all Mercedes-Benz Haters: I suppose this is the old 350 CDI with 231 hp. The new has 265 hp and plenty of torque. Goodbye BMW and Audi!

You should, because people won't pay so much money for an unreliable automobile. As for reliability, BMW is on top (at least as relible as Benz)
