Tobi had the striped mask seen in the flashback of the Kyuubi's attack at the time of the Uchiha Massacre (when he meets Itachi) instead of the orange swirl mask he has in the present day (before adopting the Rinnegan mask.) This means that he made the change at some point in the last twelve years, not sixteen years. The reason for the change? Maybe there are two Tobis.

Someone like kakashi who has the sharingan but isn't a uchiha can't use the sharingan for long periods of time, their bodies can't handle it. To be honest i think tobi is Obito cause when tobi/Obito was fighting Mintao tobi/Obito had a different mask ( its different form the Orange one )and i think when tobi/Obito had the first mask tobi/Obito had only one eye because Kakshi took the other one but then he changed the mask becuse he had another sharingan and the he changes the mask again because he had the rinergan( My thoughts not saying its true )

I'm not going to spoil anything so I'll try get this across very generally. When Naruto anime gets to the next arc(yes I mean THAT arc for people who read the manga), maybe the animators should extend the fight scenes and add more detail that the manga didn't that way the anime doesn't go to fast and it'll be last likely that it'll go back into filler anytime soon, but I think at some point when the manga is about to end that the anime starts going through the story at super speed.
