hahahahaha great! I remember when they first apeared on tv. I thought they were soooooo funny. Everytime I see them now I still laugh alot. Thanks for sharing.
The Smothers Brothers were brilliant. We could use guys (and gals) like this these days. A little social commentary with your entertainment isn't the worst thing in the world.
My parents introduced me to the Smothers Brothers via their albums in the sixties. When CBS yanked their TV show my whole family was outraged. I was blessed to see them perform live at the Dutchess County Fair about ten years ago. I catch myself singing "Herman and Sally" and "Hiawatha" to my high school students now-a-days-- I'm thrilled to introduce new generations to their comedy.
CBS canceled the show due to its controversial political kibitzes. Pat Paulson the political satirist actually received enough votes in the 1968 election that could have been Hubert Humphrey's. The Smothers Brothers subtle commentary about the Vietnam War did not win them many network friends either. Neither of the other networks were willing to risk picking them up after CBS received enough complaints to cancel them.
This sort of challenge to authority would not be tolerated in the USA, circa 2008....Yes, anyone has the right to say whatever...the problem is that their show would be canceled.
I am a SB junkie. Thanks so much for posting this. I saw them in Vegas a year ago. They had updated their schtick, and it was still topical and funny. Isn't there a place for them on TV at all any more? Maybe on "The Daily Show" or "Colbert?"
blah blah... just get to it

Tommy was a true highlight lastnight on the Emmy Awards show. At 71 he's still engaged with speaking his mind and shocking his audience.

Too long of an intro and the clip was too short, the audio too soft.
