Bob, if you really care about whether your rain water is toxic, you should:
1) cough up some hard earned $ and save yourself the trouble of looking for toxic substances with your microscope (you cannot, and will never be able to, say anything about the toxicity of what you see under your scope just by looking at it...) and send in a sample to a toxicology lab who have a better idea of how the world works in at least one subject.
2) pray to jesus, for free, for the results the lab will give you
Bob, it sounds like you are suggesting that rainwater today is both different from tap water today and rainwater 30 years ago. With the little background that I have on the subject, I would say rainwater should be expected to be different from tap water. Rain occurs when the moisture in the atmosphere (water along with a number of other gases) collects on cloud condensation nuclei to the point that it succumbs to gravity and falls in your bucket. Tap water is treated and purified.
